The Micks were in Munster with us. Irish Hussars and Irish Guards in same battlegroup. Plus 17/21 Lancers. Great memories. Good lads.

I don't know how I came across this clip but as a veteran of some 25 years service and an Irishman it brought a tear to my eye even though it was a while ago, but I have always had a soft spot for the Irish Guards and even though I just missed the Iraq conflict I always prayed to myself for the safe return of all personnel,sadly some gave their all and may whichever god you pray to bless 'em all.

The Irish Guards had tragically lost two soldiers in Irag in 2003. One was a Dubliner and the Irish authorities permitted his funeral party to parade in uniform - the first time since 1922 that British soldiers had been seen in Dublin.

CAN WE PLEASE STOP THE POLITICAL FIGHTING HERE?? All of this matters not in relation to this video. Whether you agree or disagree on the reasons for going, or even what the reasons are in the first place, this is about men & women going off to fight for their country. Whether they should be going is irrelevant - they ARE going. Can't we honor them

it is similar to the old WW2 saying about dying for your country. "You are not supposed to die for your country. You are supposed to make the other guy die for his'.

@Alec MacCnaimhin - which country hates them? Not England. Many of us acknowledge the contribution given by the Irish in fighting the French (tho' they also fought for them), then the Germans. It may confuse us as to why given our history. Some of us English are aware of what our Government did in Ireland but when someone fights beside us & is killed there is a grieving mother somewhere & that we can understand.

@locsaretheshit The Guards do just as much soldiering as the RIR. The Guards are really ,more illustrious to be in, and yes while the RIR does not do many of the ceremonial aspects, the Guards (in my opinion) Are much tougher gents, mind you in this video they are not simply marching. They are going to Iraq!

Restrictions in the Republic of Ireland's .make it illegal to induce, procure or persuade enlistment of any citizen of the Republic of Ireland into the military of another state,however people from that country do enlist in the regiment.Nowadays they recruit from all around United Kingdom and Commonwealth

For those wondering, while a part of the band is in scarlet, and the others aren't is because, the front part, are usually civilian musicians, or ex army musicians, whilst the pipes and drums are all current serving soldiers

i believe the 2nd tune is Killaloe. It is a traditional Irish marching song, and a village in Clare. Tradition and a unit's history are powerful weapons. These men and wolf hounds march in large boot and paw prints

The tune is an Irish one called ''Whiskey in the jar' - Thin Lizzy did a great version of it.
