I have a rescue border collie....the 1st day home, she managed to work out where all the biscuits and treats were, and cleared them out! VERY clever and loving dogs! 🐶❤
If you've neve been to one it is hard to get the idea of what's happening, this took a long time without success but when they are penning the sheep it's so intense no one even breaths. It's the most intense athletic event I've ever observed.
You joke, but we had a border collie when my siblings and I were little, and Mom swears that Grechen was the best babysitter she ever had. She'd herd us away from the road, she'd herd us back to the house when it got dark, and the one time the neighbor's mean dog got loose and came after one of us she hit that rottie mix at full speed, rolled it, and came out on top with it's throat in her teeth. I thought she was going to kill it. Twice her size, but she chased it away whimpering. Mom never worried about us if the border collie was watching us.
I had sheep and border collies for years. The dogs most of my life, and I feel sorry for this fine dog. He's trying to work and get those sheep where they belong. The old man doesn't know what to do because the dog is smarter than he is! That dang whistle would drive anyone crazy because he is not consistent with his commands. Looks like a young Jr dog and he needs a good Shepard to get him where he could be instead of this. Gonna run him to death. He ignored the steward telling him he used up his time💔 poor beautiful dog.
There is a set time to complete the run in. And as long as you’re in the time frame you’re fine. The judge knocks off points for loads of different things like a thin outrun, startling the sheep at the top, going round the pen numerous times, an untidy shed, and for not having straight lines in general among other things and whoever has the least points deducted wins basically
The outrun is first which where the dog runs round the field to get the sheep, the theres the lift which starts the sheep towards you. After that its the fetch which posting the sheep through the first gate and bringing them to the handler. Before the drive where you drive them through the second and third gate. After that you take them back to the ring where you shed 2 off from 5, you then regroup them for the pen and then finally take them back out and seperate 1 ewe from the others and then youre done all in about 15 minutes
But, this particular handler is whisling and shouting his commands way too much!!! He needs to have more confidence in his dog!!! I felt sorry that he was bullying his dog so much during his run!!! A Border Collie will remember his treatment during the and the pay you back at the Pen!!!
@@lucywilliams352 Unfortunately I've heard it plenty of times and always from people who think they're smart. The dog ends up being smarter then they are.
At one of our matches someones border collie got loose from where he was being kept. You wonder how we got him back ? Easy, yep, we just sent one of the other border collies to guide him back. We've had Border collies my life time. I'm 60 and that's a lot of learning working and total complete love, never questioned, direction completed no questions,To all those we have had and do and will, we will watch you in the beautiful green grass , Free, no work just play and we will play too.
