Who doesn't love a good house party? We may sometimes called them "gaff" parties in Ireland, but that doesn't mean we don't share similarities between America and Ireland. We sat down our resident Irish People to see what they made of these varying shots... and there were surprises!

The last house party I was part of, we mixed several bottles of grain alcohol with Sprite in a metal wash basin that we got at Home Depot, then threw plastic frogs, rats, and snakes in for decoration. We forgot that the rats were squeaky toys, and it took about 15 minutes for folks to forget that we had Solo cups and they just started squirting it into their mouths directly from the toy, giving birth to the phrase, a Rat's Ass Shot.

For the record, shots like these aren't usually the main thing people drink at these parties. They are just little treats that get handed out through the night to supplement the beer. That is why they are fancy. Most of them are way too sweet and will give you the worst hangover the next day if you drink a lot of them.

House parties don’t have any of these. It is usually just beer, single shots of whatever bottle is brought, grain punch and maybe Jell-O shots.

I think it's more just based on the house, or which college is nearby. Used to do a traveling marketing job and when the college doesn't allow drinking on campus, the dorm kids go to hotels. I've seen everything from beer to blue label and every liqueur I've heard of and many more I haven't. As an aside, we always had work in the morning and they were always loud as fuck. Always.

The last time I hosted a house party i had a case of beer, 3 boxes of wine (red, white, rose') a 6 pack (or 2) of wine coolers or choice of carbonated alcohol mixed concoction in a can, tequila mixers for margatitas/daiquiris in a blender, rum/vodka for shots (all of them, cheapest prices available) and... a good bottle of Absinthe. The alcohol we collectively bought for the party is the last clear memory I have of that weekend. Thanks Green Fairy.

I went to house parties where bottle of bottom shelf liquors were passed around and that was your shot. Only when we went out to bars did we order shots like these. Otherwise, it’s a mouthful of whatever was handed to you.

Yea I don't drink, I've only had one drink in my entire life for one very special reason, but I went to plenty of parties in college. There's usually one side of the fridge full of Jell-O shots or a cooler full of them. Sometimes they don't do the best research.

As an American, every house party I went to, especially in college, only had beer, jello shots, rum and coke/jack and coke, and trash can punch (which is essentially a tub full of every liquor in the house). Although, I knew how to make a buttery nipple, whiskey sour, and would drink those (of course byob, so...). And I learned how to make a Scooby Snack and Baby Guinness when I studied abroad in Ireland. I know a lot more now, but that's all I knew in my college years.

Have you guys seen the new study that indicates there is no safe level of drinking? Any alcohol consumption causes a decrease in gray mater. The portion of the brain where information is processed. The study has not been peer reviewed yet, but involved 20-25k participants with two levels of controls.

Those are really just shots folks get in a bar. House Party shots are different here. Also from a long time bartender. The Alabama Slammer is technically Southern Comfort and Amaretto. It’s a peach whiskey, not vodka. Hits like a train.

@@reelordealentertainment There's about a dozen different things some people call Alabama Slammers including that. The one I was first taught was the Southern Comfort and Amaretto one. I've also heard people call just a Southern Comfort and Club soda an Alabama Slammer

Four Horsemen should be Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, and Jose Cuervo. Also called Three Wise Men Going South (Just Jim, Johnnie, & Jack is the 3 Wisemen). These shots should also be a full shot of each in a bigger glass but still taken as a shot.

American here. House parties don't actually have these. Most of them just have people taking swigs of any random bottles of booze and chase them with whatever Gatorade or Sprite they brought with them. I actually had a Four Horsemen at this place called the Beer Exchange here in Kalamazoo, MI. It's like a stock market for drinks. Really smart idea. Four Horsemen though was rough.

I've actually had most of those drinks when I went to college. Only the Orgasm was called a Screaming Orgasm and the servings were in a regular sized glass. Everyone was puking at the end of the night. What, no Kamikaze or Electric Ice Tea? Also, there was a lot of Everclear involved as well.

As an American that has been to many house parties, I can safely say that not once has there been someone attempting to be a mixologist. We had straight shots of hard liquor or (if you want to be fancy) Jell-O shots. Perhaps I just attended the wrong sort of house party.

In university, we used to make Alabama Slammers in a 5-gallon pail for parties. Definitely not drunk as a shot. Would have a bucket of those and one of moose milk(learned to make that in the military).

Polar bear shots are wonderful! Chocolate liqueur and peppermint schnapps. Some call them after eight or peppermint paddy shots. Ive never had an Alabama shot just the cocktail (Amaretto, Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, Orange juice)

I'll never forget when my friends and I went out to eat, the waiter brought my friend a triple shot of four horsemen, purchased for him by some buddies at the table next to us... he didn't want it, so I downed it in a quick gulp with a completely empty belly from not eating all day... I remember going to so many college parties with 3 gallons of my ENSane Elixers and dropping everyone there because while they tasted delicious they were strong enough to drop even the hardest frat boys after a single bottle (gave it out in athleticwater bottles). It's how I got the nickname "The Mad Chemist". PS: The last version I made was: -16 oz of Kaniche Rum (a very fruity, mild rum 80 proof) -8.4 oz of Tropical Redbull -8 oz of Cranberry-Pinapple (or Raspberry for a more sweet taste) juice -4 hard life saver candies (watermelon is the best)

My army room mate and I went and visited his old college frat on a 4 day weekend. It was rumored for yrs later that Airborne infantrymen have their livers replaced with something that causes alcohol to be ineffective on them. That does look like a fun mix "elixer" I'll have to give it a try. Those lower proof alcohols really sneak up on ppl. You feel something cold tap you on the shoulder SURPRISE!!!! It's the floor.
