Before doing this video we didn't really know where or what the 'Pacific Northwest' really was...but now, we have a much better idea! From Oregon to Seattle to Washington, with fruits, trail mix and smoked salmon, our Irish People had a fun time trying to get to grips with all these snacks.

Smoked salmon is pretty popular out here but an acquired taste. Even if you don't like it, you grew up with it. It's far better when you're smoking or curing it yourself at home, but store bought can be good too. A year late in finding this video but I loved it all the same. I'm a Washington native, my great grandparents immigrated out here to Tacoma with my grandma and great aunts from Norway. I love my home!

It's so telling that we Washington natives count our generations like that. People from Ireland must be rolling their eyes so hard they break off inside their head. I think of myself as a Washington "native" too... and I moved here when I was 12. My kids get to claim honest native-born status though. Washington is a place that welcomes newbies into it's slightly soggy embrace, and makes them family, like we've lived here forever.

Not specifically that chocolate. That chocolate has salted nuts in it, so the salt causes the blooming, even with the correct storage. Spiced chocolate also blooms easily as well, I don't know if it's the spices blooming or the spices acting as nucleation sites, but yeah, it's a thing. Doesn't effect the taste either way.

They all care a bunch about physical fitness, being with nature, vintage everything and drinking small-batch local IPA's out of an antique steel cup that originated from an old prospector's mine that was dug during the California gold rush but had it's handle broken during a cave-in so they got a piece of old-growth douglas fir that was felled by a lightning strike back in the famous 1943 lightning storm to repair it and the unique story behind the cup instills additional character to the ales that are consumed from it. @@2dimitropolis370 I mean, no need to be an ass. He was more referring to distance, but was off: Seattle to Savannah is nearly DOUBLE the distance of Dublin to Rome. Your countries tend to be the size of, or smaller than, our states, and yet most of is know both fairly well. Besides that, there were full on cities in America 1000 years before Europeans even arrived, which even that is going on 600 years ago now, btw, and even THAT is ignoring the Vikings. Or are you just referring to the American government? It's the oldest continuous, unchanging government on the planet, so that makes no sense, either. Funny to see you be an ass about our history when you have no knowledge of it that doesn't relate to your country.

@Gumdaar1

@@helenholt1161 Well this may change your opinion? If you were to land at Seatac Airport (Seattle, WA, USA) within 150 miles (241K); so 1 day to span the circle in all directions and at any time of year - you may Hike, Ride, Kayak, Soar, Canoe, Swim, Dive, Climb, and Ski (all types) or otherwise enjoy in no particular order: Visit a mid sized desert, one of the snowiest places on earth and travel through an actual Rain Forest. Think on this a bit - in one leisurely day within 100 miles of each other you can go from the snowiest, to one of the driest, and then to one of the wettest places on earth... That snowiest place? Is also one of the prettiest - you've all seen it without knowing it as it is one of the most photographed/painted mountains on earth. They will jumble Mt Baker (picturesque) with her child Mt Shuksan (portraiture) but In this reference lets call them as one and the same as they live right next to each other and you cant see Shuksan unless fairly close - you know mountains and such get in the way... any movie they claim to be Seattle (most movies really) but was really filmed in Vancouver, BC region, well that's Mt Baker you see in the distance. Visitors to Seattle within this 150 miles may see 1000+ year old untouched forests, climb on Glaciers & over Crevasse's, rock climb 2000ft (600M) cliffs, view forest waterfalls, ride raging rapids or thru massive river gorges, enter deep into one of the largest concrete structures on earth, visit one of the largest free-span buildings where 747's were made, explore a full fledged wilderness - meaning to get lost you might never be seen again, or scuba a very deep, very big and cold Ocean, walk soft sandy beaches and navigate very deadly currents amongst sholes that have claimed hundreds of ships and lives. See up close whales, otters, octopi and starfish or explore sheltered coves among over 150 tiny and some very large islands, climb into active volcanoes, walk alpine meadows or bogs full of bears, moose, caribou, elk and beavers (Bigfoot too - i am a believer)! See ancient lava flows, visit a nuclear submarine, army, air force, naval, and abandoned (or are they all?) missile bases, along with countless other things to hike and climb upon - kinda unique to the rest of the world, truly. It is an outdoorsy mecca for those inclined. Not to mention that much of the above is also within 150 miles (pushing it a bit) of all the same in British Colombia, Canada - though their mountains are just babies. Its also a fairly cultural place with world class art, food & wine, and a few billionaires. But you had better bring rain gear, even in July. Counting the desert its either too dry, just wet, and too damned wet by half; except for 2 weeks in August and 2 in September you may get by wearing just summer clothes but i recommend keeping the trench coat handy still. Enjoy, I know I do when I come visit!

As a Pac. N. Westerner born and raised in Portland, but having lived across the Columbia in Vancouver, Wa. for the past 36 years, and married to a Londener, this was fun to watch! Every time we go back to visit family in England, I have to take Aplets and Cotlets to my sister--law who loves them, and Almond Roca for everyone (also made in Washington) One year for Christmas I sent my Father-in-law NW smoked salmon and he hated it ! He'd only ever had soft, moist, lox type smoked salmon and couldn't understand real smoked salmon!
