Or as the great Irish American comedian George Carlin said “Don't sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things”. Would love to see a translation for that.

Handy Dane thanks. I've noticed a few words that get a lot of use in Irish this being one. You used "ag deanamh beag" "to make little of" this is a common phrase of my mothers here in Dublin but its seldom used today. Did it enter English through Irish I wonder? "Does be" and "do be" (Commonly used in North Dublin)it appears entered the English language by Irish speakers trying to Express Bionn in English. Is teanga álainn i.
@LearnIrish

I'm not sure if they entered English via Irish but it is entirely possible, after all Hiberno English would have parallels with Irish.

Go spéisiúil, an chéad am ar chonaic mé "dul chun cinn", ba hé inné, agus mé ag léamh alt ar laghdú de na cásanna chorónvíris in Éireann.
