I remember having this on my Xbox 360, and having tons of fun with it, especially the customization and optimizing as best as possible for the Endless modes. But, I didn't have the DLC. Then, about 9 years later, I see it for cheap on Steam, plus DLC. So I pick it up, try it out, and find out I've still got my skills, and I had even more of a blast than before. Great to see how the game holds up to me after so much time.
This game was my jam back in the day when it was still known as Trenched. I stumbled across it again while checking out the Xbox Streaming Game Pass and I am playing it through again. It holds up amazingly well after all these years. Back in the day, I was one of the top players on the board and I was one of the first half dozen or so people who soloed survival mode. Fun fact, the devs originally designed survival to be an unbeatable mode where you played as many waves as you could before perishing. They had arbitrarily set the wave limit to 100, but since they thought it wasn't remotely possible to beat it, there was no proper end originally and no prize or recognition for achieving it. It just ended, assuming you were lucky enough for it to not bug out. The game was pretty unstable once you got to higher waves back then. That eventually got patched and two new survival stages were added with the Martian Bear DLC, although you should still avoid using mass explosive barrels as a strat. That used to hard freeze your 360 back in the day. This game did great for an xbox arcade title, but it really deserved a proper full release. It is such an underrated hidden gem. It does my crusty old heart good to see people still discovering and playing it to this day.
I’ve had this on my X-Box forever, I think it was a free Games With Gold game at one point, and I don’t think I’ve ever even played it since I don’t recognize this gameplay at all, but this makes me want to give it a try now. Hopefully it’s good and I’ll enjoy it, otherwise I’ll hold you fully responsible if I don’t like it 😂
Also you missed the survival game modes, 3 different maps, of which they can go upto wave 100. Allowing you to unlocked new loot as you progress to your goal of completion
Ahh i love this game The onyl bug i encountered was that on xbox 360if you join you may randomly gain the host's colour scheme So running around as low tier gold mechs was funny But goddamn it was hella good Gameplay makes half my game library look rushed And is the reason why despite playinf it when it was new it is the ONLY game i remember fully years later other than 40k space marines
Great review and very entertaining and informative clear communication. Subscribed! Good luck to the channel. Take a break and watch the ads so the creator can get paid. #RU-vidRoyalties
Double fine is an absolute moron for not expanding on this. Couldve gone from being an irrelevant aa studio that makes indie games for kids to one of microsoft's top studios.
i love this game sooo much. sadly multiplayer is dead/or isnt working on steam. i had it for xbox. hopefully it gets revived soon/or updates/getting more people. or an iron brigade 2? lol rip to a beatiful game.
I love this game. It’s so much fun. Even better when you have friends to play with. That way you could have tons of different types of emplacements. The hard part now is getting friends to play with me
I fucking loved this game when I was growing up. This and other XBLA games like Dorito’s Crash Course 2, Happy Wars and Toy Soldiers: Cold War made up a very large part of my childhood on Xbox360
Iron brigade was great, it was one of the first games I bought online. Played it on 360 at the time, didn’t finish it but had a great time. I got it on steam a few years ago and beat the base game, and work on the mars expansion now and then. This is hands down my favourite mech game and one of my favourite tower defence. The gameplay loop is perfect
I do wish this game got a sequel or a remake of some sort. Now that Double Fine are finished with Psychonauts 2. My only major gripe with this game is since it came out on the Xbox Arcade, Gamepass seems to be the only option to be able to play the game. I cannot purchase it to own which sucks because this game is so much fun. Just started yesterday and already having a blast with it as there is just not enough games like this one.
One of my favorite game.. and best player in multiplayer mode.. sadly.. player base are so low it is close to impossible to gather a party.. pity.. really love the game..
I was just shooting the shit with my bud about this game for a bit and to my surprise a more modern review of it exists here lol As another has mentioned, the core end game of IB was the survival mode with its unique rewards and 100 waves to conquer, but considering this is a revisit of a decade+ old title built for 4 player coop in said mode- that's semantics on my part lol All told, thank you for taking a moment to put some eyes on a hidden gem of a title, in my opinion. Many a night were spent smashin' tubes and conquering all 300 waves back in the day, so it's just nice to not only be reminded of the game, but to see others take a moment to talk about it as well :)
