Those tabs in between teeth are called rakers. They clear the chips as they are cut. Stihl makes a sharpner/jig that sharpens the teeth and brings the rakers down at the same time. If you don’t file the rakers down, your teeth will become shorter than the rakers and not allow the teeth to cut anymore. The more you file the rakers down the more aggressive of a cut you’ll get.

Tim I like using a chain for projects like this as well. Recently I came across a great way to store my 10' chain on my 1025R. It is a MOTO4U Motorcycle Off-Road Universal Waterproof Tool Tube that I found online. The 80mm size holds a 10' chain nicely. The tube bolt holes match perfectly with the existing bolt holes on my rops. I mounted it on the inside of the rops using the top bolt of the safety light unit. The 110mm size tube probably also matches the rops bolt holes. But no TTWT discount, at least not yet!!!

Tim, It's good to see I'm not the only one to forget pins :). Also It's good to see you not jamming at the posts withbthe tractor. It's a good reminder that the loader has psi limits and by running at it you exceed them. You blow loader hoses at least. How do I know?
@bartonmd
@bartonmd Месяц назад
The tabs on the chain are depth gauges or "rakers" and if you're paying for sharpening, they need to be hitting those every time. If I'm lightly touching up a chain that's not all that dull, I'll do one round file swipe and not touch the depth gauges for a couple times. Assuming they're doing it with a grinder, they'll want to do them every time.

I went to the Artillian website to look at those Iron Fist grapples. Every time I tried to order one, their website seemed to have a problem. Also, Artillian did tell me that their grapples will not fit on a Frontier fork frame, but a local dealer told me that Artillian forks and frames meet the same dimensional standards as the rest. I am not impressed with Artillian's customer service. SO, I went on eBay and fortunately found a seller handling ProWork's clamshell grapple. Had a bit of trouble with shipping screw-ups, but finally got it and absolutely love it. Completely different style of grapple. The Artillian Iron Fist looks amazing, but also is so complex and looks rather frail. Would love to see you put it through the wringer as you have other grapples to see how much it can take without distorting.

Tim see if you have a safety chain on that little saw? I've never looked at one but I bet it does. I won't use a safety chain because they just don't cut. As mechanical as you are you should sharpening your own chains. Never let a man that sells chains sharpen yours! If you'd rather not use a file the Harbor Freight chain sharpener isn't half bad for the price. I pull the grinder wheel down and push the chain into it. It doesn't require much and you should get several sharpenings from a chain. Another good thing about sharpening your chains is you won't run one when it starts to dull, you'll change it faster because it isn't a problem. Believe it or not I'm not affiliated with any chain sharpener companies! lol

2 questions. 1. Is it ok to flex the tractor and loader like that? I do it often with my tractor but I’m always wondering if it’s ok to be doing or if I will break/bend something on the loader, an axle or even the frame. 2. If you had to choose between Artillian’s original grapple or the Iron Fist, which would you go with. I’ve been debating between the two.
@TractorTimewithTim
