This is my favourite Maiden song, I play a bass and want to learn it. This song is amazing, your version just adds such a fresh and vibrant touch to it, revitalises my love for it even more. Even made me read the book Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. I would love to own an SDX.
Hey, cheers or the kind comments. I love the guitar, aside ffom the already mentioned neck pickup. It looks and feels great, and in my opinion is a great buy. The floyd rose is great, but the restriction that comes from it being non-floating can also be a niggle. Overall it's a great guitar, but I would still use my Ibanez RG as my main guitar. I do intend to do a full review as soon as I get the time as I've had others asking me to do so. Hope this helps.
Hey, yeah, I picked the maple board due to the guitar resembling the model Adrian plays in the 'Stranger in a Strange land' video. This was the first song I played once I had the guitar unboxed! Hope it lives up to your expectations.
One of the greatest maiden's songs on every part of it: voice, chords, and one of the greatest solos from mr Adrian Smith. You did really good, and I'm with you by leaving alone fear of the dark;so over run song. I'm from 1st maiden album to 7ht son and maybe some no prayer, also a few brave new world. Great job man!!
Thanks! I love the guitar. It looks great, feels great, and sounds great. The best feature is the neck , which is smooth and easy to play. On the downside, the neck pickup is very weak. Even when set at its highest, it feels like a struggle to pick up the sound. I'm using the neck pickup at the start of the solo, so with a lot of distortion and volume it's not easy to notice. It's when I use the neck pick-up on my Ibanez RG (see my other videos) afterwards that I really see the difference.
eamon lad, your epic. Ive been a maiden fan since 1996 (the tender age of 12), and at the time, like yourself I bet you'd thought you'd never hear Adrian and Bruce in maiden again? but as you know, when the heavens opened in 99 and shit became possible, out came the impossible. long story short, cheers for the Adrian uploads, they are fantastic. thin line cover next I hope???
Hi, I've been watching your videos and you Seam to be very much into the same maiden era as myself, I purchased this exact guitar yesterday from Andertons , your videos did help my decision, you gotta go with the maple board , just like the one we all used to watch Adrian play in the 80s. I'm so looking forward to getting it. Roll on wedensday ..
You are obviously talking about the white custom Jackson guitar that Adrian used during Somewhere On Tour era, this one had a lot of switches and stuff cause a Roland GK series guitar synth system was embeded in the headstock. The original guitar that Adrian used for the S.i.T synth parts recordings was a Roland GK-707 model which wasn't that convenient to use on stage cause of the weird shape it had, so Jackson made a "one of kind" model for him for that purpose. Some technical tips for my favorite album 😛
Hey, Yes stock pick-ups. I'm playing through a Yamaha Stagepas 500 PA system. My video on how I got the sound goes into the detail. Thanks for watching.
That's so sick! I'm buying this guitar. What an amazing tone, and it looks so bitchin! Adrian has always been my favorite Maiden guitarist and I especially love his solos from the somewhere in time and seventh son era. Thank you
oh right, similar to my jackson king v really, the bridge humbucker is brill but the neck pickup is very very weak, thanks this is very useful, think i defo want to buy it now, i love adrian and maiden so it'll be perfect! cheers!
I also have the SDX, totally agree with you ref. the neck pick up, soon as I get around to it a Hotrails will be there, also I had huge problems with the action too, but the guitar is awesome and worth all of the £340 I paid for it. Ref. your video you get some awesome tones there bruv, and you can definitely play
Next one on my list for learning. Always loved the solos here. As usual you more than nail it my friend . Top bollocks as ever keep them coming . Been working on my Boss GT10 fine tuning my Somewhere In Time ,sound not far off now either . Sorry to be presuming. It would be great if you did a gear run down set up etc. Show us how you set up maybe . Quality amigo !
+daraboy1973 Hey, thanks for the comment! I have a video entitled 'how to get the somewhere in time sound'. I explain my set up on that. Here's the link. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VG-3LfEin_U.html
people might not like this comment but this is my fave maiden album i deffinitely think they took influence from the big stadium hair/glam metal thing that was dominating at that time. you can hear it in the production, the drums and including synths and guitar tones
No matter what motivated it, it's definitely the Maiden-album with the best production to date! Such big and flawless production, which they could never surpass :/
Nice! 7th son is my favorite maiden album with somewhere in time at a close 2nd. I managed to get that Adrian tone with my fender mustang but now I just need the guitar
Hey. The neck profile is... fine. I'm not too bothered about the technical aspects of the guitar so long as it feels good and I can get the sound I want out of it. The neck I'dsay is gloss and the frets satin. The frets are...'normal' I'd say, haha. Hope this helps.
Hi, I'm going through a Yamaha Stagepas 300 PA that I use for acoustic gigs. It's handy to plug the laptop into to jam along to. For effects I'm using a Digitech RP500 that I've messed with to get the Somewhere In Time sound (ie; loads of chorus).
I like to play Invaders some great riffs in there ...a lot of the less famous songs have some great riffs and solos that are just brilliant.and fun to get right and play. rock on m8
how is the profile of the neck ? more a flat D-shape or a thin C-shape ? what about the finish on the neck and the fretboard ? is it high gloss or satin ? some pages say it has Jumbo frets, other say it has medium Jumbos. how would you call them ? Thanks !
It's a great guitar aside from the neck pickup, which is very poor. The bridge pickup is also weaker that what I am used to, but the guitar looks great and feels great. Sound-wise I'm not using an amp, but going through a Yamaha Stagepas 300 PA that I use for acoustic gigs. It's handy to plug the laptop into to jam along to. For effects I'm using a Digitech RP500 that I've messed with to get the Somewhere In Time sound (ie; loads of chorus). Hope this helps.
This is part of the X series, but it has Jackson pickups, unlike the other guitars with SDs or EMGs. Do you think the other ones sound a bit better, or Jackson did the pickups as good as on the others? I hope they're not JS Series pickups.
Great Cover!! I really want to get the San Dimas Jackson but is so expensive that the SDX is a great option, Could you please tell me what is you overview about this guitar
so if it were replaced it would be a masterpiece? how does the floyd rose feel? and has the quality held up til now? sorry for all the questions but im a huge adrian fan but ive heard mixed reviews and you are a great player so i'm depending on your opinion, nice playing too this is one of my favorite albums along with brave new world
im thinking of getting this guitar for my birthday, what amp are you using for this video? and im wondering how would you rate the sound quality of this guitar? thanks!
