I love when Bruce goes into storyteller mode live. You see it in his face and mannerisms, like he's telling you the story of a guy frozen on an arctic expedition
Well, in The Future Past Tour they aren't playing the whole Somewhere in Time, but they're playing 5 songs from SiT. Caught Somewhere in Time Stranger in a Strange Land Heaven Can Wait Alexander the Great Wasted Years
Somewere in time....the best maiden album to me.....very hipnotic, the guitar textures , a bit analogical and a bit digital.....very nice the extremes betwen quiet moments and great tenssion others....... Very epic too, experimental and always riding on...never stops......Viva Maiden carajo
this tour was arguably the most eclectic tour Maiden ever had....this video doesn't show it much but the back drop was filled with so much sci -fi and historical scenes...it out did Powerslave by a mile!!
best band ever and you know why? because even you who mark them you sing defently a song from them thats the magic of iron maiden their music is from another era up the irons we love you
the feelings i get from this song is impossible to explaine........the solo gives me an eargasm there really are non better UP THE HOLYSMOKERS from Norway
Thank god I still love this band x) I loved them since I was 3 and I'm 12 right now =) BEST BAND IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! Oh and ADRIAN FREDERIK "H" SMITH IS AWESOME IN THIS SONG!!! =O
Stranger in a strange land is one of the best songs by Iron Maiden. Love the guitarwork by Smith/Murray. They are one of the most perfect matches in the world of guitarplaying. By the way, I think Smith plays a Lado guitar on this one.
Iron Maiden playing a song with hooks. One of my favs of all time. It's like lime and coconut or strawberries and cinnamon. You don't know how good it can be until you put it together.
@TheUndertakeer You probably had the answer by now but this was last played on July 17th 1999 during the Ed Hunter tour. It was taken off the set list permanently after the death of Adrian's father for whom this song was dedicated. It is too bad because it is an amazing song with one of the best solos in rock history (imo) but it is understandable.
1999.. they've played Heaven Can Wait as well.. quite often, actually (including last year). I can't understand why they don't include this one more often. It's as strong as many of their live favorites.
Can't believe they've never recorded this tour. This to me was their best album but only "Wasted Years" ever gets played, and "Heaven Can Wait" was the only other that they played after this tour from that album, and at least those two songs were recorded on "A Real Live One".
SUPERB !!! I really love this magical album and it breaks my heart that they never plays this one or: Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Caught Somewhere in Time, or Alexander the Great anymore....Magic was created in the studio when this album was recorded !!!
They played Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner in Belgrade 1986, first concert on tour, but Aleksandar the Great they never played and they never will!!!!
These live versions, man! Bruce could really WAIL them out, huh? Awesome how he adds his own bits during the solo. (3:15) I don't know of many bands that sound better live and raw than on an album. Long live IRON MAIDEN.
I love that adrian only ever improvvises and adapts his solos slightly. To many guitarists Improvise so much, that it really makes the song fall flat, right when I am immersineg myself in the other world that the narrative/melody has inspired. Dave and paarticularly Jannick definitely need 2 rain tthemselvesa in a little here; they need to realise, it's okay to show virtuosity, but ultimately, the live experience, is supposed to captivate the fans, and part of the journey is a nostalgic, reminiscence of 1st becoming intoxicated by the music.
It seems as though Adrian was the kind of player that would pick up any brand and just go miles along and make it immensely popular. The Lado brand didn't know how well off they were having him playing their guitars on the World Slavery tour. (I believe that was it.) I don't think that Jackson ever show enough gratitude to him for staying with their brand. Most players in the 80's switched to ESP, it looks like.
Maiden DID play an entire album live....It was A Matter Of Life And Death....and it was awesome. Too bad people pissed and moaned just because they dared to play their NEW album in it's entirety. F'ing stupid, complaining about that. Those classics you all love, used to be new songs....that's how they became classics!
Yeah, probably isn't as well known because it was never properly recorded such as The World Slavery Tour or the Seventh Son tour with Live After Death and Maiden England respectively. Heck, even Fear of the Dark had that silly special and multiple live albums released from that tour.
@sandman616 yeah I noticed that too but they still play Heaven can Wait as well. I love Somwhere in Time it's one of my fav album by them... personnally I think that the songs from S I T are too associated with Adrian Smith who wrote such songs as Sea of Madness or this one. later he left the band because Steve Harris didn't let him express as much as he wanted and when he came back in 1999 with Bruce Dickinson the band took a new direction, choosing to forget about the past
@TheUndertakeer Something about Adrian said he never wanted to play it again I think . Also Nicko said that Alexander The Great was a strong possiblity to end up on the setlist but I guess they didn't like how it sounded live or something .
@TheUndertakeer song structures too similiar, its like ABABCAB, the huge breakdown instrumentals near the end like on powerslave, sea of madness, 2 minutes, phantom. All badass songs but sorta alike
@tHeWiZaRdOfRoCk There were several brilliant tracks in that album. Alexander the great had the best solo, stranger in a strange land the best song over all, wasted years is good, just avaliable in lots of other albums too
