I hear you. After one of my worst days at work, I was listening to Iron Maiden favs and then RU-vid randomly segued to this gem; four and a half minutes later I had gone from despair to ecstasy and virtually danced out of the office to that awesome ending tune! I predict this will be my go-to song whenever I need a shot of emotional morphine :D
I'm sorry to intrude on everybody and I'm glad to see that everyone loves this song, but I'm just here to find out if this is yet another song by Iron Maiden that is based on a movie. I was scrolling through some movies on my Roku TV and came across this movie with the same name so I had to start watching it to see if it was similar to the song
This song is a good rocker and a good headbanger but has little to do with the Wicker Man. The Wicker Man was a large wooden effigy used for human sacrifice in the Pre-Roman Celtic religion which existed at that time in Pre-Roman Brittain and Gaul. The victim would be placed inside the Wicker Man and the effigy would then be set on fire. The source of this information is Julius Caesar and other historians contemporary with him. Caesar invaded Gaul and Brittain and interacted with the Celts who lived there at that time. I guess when they sing "your time will come" that refers to the time when you get sacrificed to the Pre-Roman Celtic gods.
I don't wanna sound like the Elephant in the Room but...I think this song has a bit of a low quality to it Still: I like the music in it, but I can't hear the lyrics all that well
The prefix "a" comes from Old English and meant "on." It survives today in a bunch of words, including adrift, afloat, asleep, etc. There was also an old Norse equivalent, I believe.
GOOD ON YA LAD - from a Maiden fan in the States. Do you find it as delightfully ironic as i do that "The Clansman" is by a BRITISH band praising the fight for freedom of a SCOTTISH rebel who kicked their arses??? XD i still love em both! CHEERS!
You are the fool, Mr. Howie. Punch, one of the great fool-victims of history. For you have accepted the role of king for a day. And who but a fool would do that? But you will be revered and anointed as a king. You will undergo death and rebirth. Resurrection, if you like. The rebirth, sadly, will not be yours, but that of our crops.
