This was just ONE example of a rock or metal song influence by SF/F. How about Zeppelin's *Stairway to Heaven?* It was influenced by LOTR... .

A lot of Maiden's songs are influenced by Sci Fi and also classic literature and horror Some examples are Lord of the Flies, Man On The Edge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, When The Wild Wind Blows, Where Eagles Dare, The Prisoner, The Trooper, Number of the Beast and arguable Paschendale, and probably a lot more inspired by classic horror i'm forgetting.

Framen are caucasian in the original. I've seen what they did to Star Wars, was expected the framen to be BLM in the new Dune. Also it was to be expected that this Paul was to be more efemine and introverted then the old Paul.

The author of the book did not want anything to do with Iron Maiden because as Bruce Dickenson said, "he isn't quite fond of heavy metal in fact" so they changed the name of the song from "DUNE" to "To Tame A Land" to avoid lawsuit. Least I heard from Bruce personally.

How can you not be a fan of Iron Maiden and Dune together?! It's great to see this song paired up with this movie. Ironically, Piece of Mind was released in 1983, one year before the movie was released. For years, I've always imagined what the movie would look and sound like with Iron Maiden doing the music...now I know. Fans of Herbert and Maiden will know what I mean when I say, with the voice: UP THE IRONS!

Listened to this cassette non stop in 1984. Would listen to it over and over when I went to bed. Literally got sad and, dare I say, a bit teary when this song would end. It felt so epic! Finally saw them my first time in 1985 for powerslave. I have seen them over 20 times since and have tix to future past!!!

I just hoppe they make a FAR FAR FAR! better jobb with remaking it ....then they did picking up the jurrasic ip agen , if a new dune have even a 10th of the plotholes crappy pr forced crap or hollywood editing of 'modern' times.... I be outright pissed!... after all ,imagen Dune...we are talking a fucking scifi TITAN! one of the bedrocks of modern scifi/opera...imagen it ,instead of true to the books background scenery for good phased dialog giving you exposition and the fights being decently 'realistic' and AT MOST making up 15% of the movie and decently correct to the physics of the books..aka..the knife duel at the end..steady cam ,and a brief faints & dodging ,then...swipe and dead.... imagen that...redone..in hollywood style aka... the background panoramas ? despite ouer excellent ability to meld cgi and animatronics etc...coockie cuter close up of a single background building so that you as audiance can ignore the talk and read the handfisted in 'ohh that sounds like a verion of x brand irl'' crap...becouse you allready been 'told' by the red clad dudes grin that red cloths = evillll...or its fights being 'hollywoodfied' ..so instead of decent cam and a no bs 3 min fight or on point writting text...you got 15 min of to loud music such a zip zaping back and forth of closeups you dont get any feeling for the scene ambiance....and the fighters can mysteriously take a tanks worth of punishing....untill the music end and plot qued nudge of little finger makes zee bad dude keel over.... I mean...that be a fucking tradgedy......for a movie version of Dune to see happen ,but considering how other famused ip's been treated ...well.... I rather spend that movie cash on a bottle of rume , rewatch the pirates of carabean the FIRST! ...or a bottle of water and watch one of the 70/80's dune...or..'the children of dune' aka..3 houer movies..yes movie's in plurals.

Everybody always says that Number of the Beast is #1, but Piece of Mind is top of the mountain for me. 👌 Just the sound spectrum and mixing are so great. It has a punch and crunch to it that is unmatched, but Powerslave is a close second.

I was into " Heavy Metal " about 30 years ago, then moved away from it and listened to other music. If there is one band from HM that I'd still listen to now it would be Maiden every time. Have so much respect for them they were such a big part of my life as a teenager. And I still think this track in particular is stunning, still blows me away.

Yet for whatever reason he allowed Toto to score the Lynch film that he called a "masterpiece" and Jodorowsky was going to have Pink Floyd do almost all of his score. I wanna call the man a hypocrite but at the same time it wasn't his choice and you may not like the music but can still enjoy the movie.

That was awesome. This was actually the first time I have ever heard this song. I must say that some of the beginning lyrics sounded rushed as Bruce sang them. Some of the flow was off for me.

Found out that Frank Herbert was going to sue Iron Maiden if they produced any music related to his work because he hated heavy metal and didn't want it associated with his work.

Maiden was planning a full Dune based album, and they asked Frank Herbert for permission. He did not give his blessing and said he didn't care for their music. He never threatened to sue them, but they decided not to do it without the author's blessing. The album became "Piece of Mind" with different lyrics. But this song is straight out of Dune.

Need to remember the song was inspired by the aweSOME book series NOT the aweFUL 1984 movie. In fact it was from Piece of Mind - released in 1983 BEFORE the movie came out. Great editing though! You make the movie look like it might actually be decent - but in fact it's unwatchable.

That was fantastic!!! Bloody awesome. SPACE OPERA FOR EVER - I loved the books when I was 13, loved the Iron Maiden tribute when I was 17 and then really loved the movie when I was 18. This is a brilliant tribute to all three. Well done. (I don't know why so many people bag-out David Lynch's movie, people take it too seriously maybe?)

+Azazel Acheron Its chronicled in a documentary called "Jodowroskys Dune" . Geiger was one of many concept artists hired. It would have been a completely beautiful disaster of a movie. The director had never read the book his friend just told him he should make it into a movie. But Jodowrosky sure went after it with everything he had.

Hmmmm, My favourite book ever (with the exceptions of maybe "Frankenstien" and "Clockwork Orange") by my favourite band ever, at least when I was 13, (35 years ago admittedly) What a fucking tune! Iron Maiden taught me about Egypt, they taught me about the charge of the light brigade, the battle of Britain, Edgar Allan Poe, Frank Herbert obviously, Alexender the great, and about Samuel Taylor Coleridge. They also taught how to "Run Free" ( Hey, not every lyric has to be meaningful to be meaningful...)

I recently read both the Five Rings and Dune. I just started going through Iron Maiden’s complete discography and I now realize that ironically Iron Maiden has songs on both of these books in the same album. It blew my mind. IMO Piece of Mind is the best Iron Maiden album.
