A lot of people have been asking for this song for awhile - good choice. The song is about homesickness and the grind of touring...I guess not very happy subject matter but the song has always felt inspiring and happy to me...the music in this song is awesome. The main verse "Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years. Face up... make your stand. And realize you're living in the golden years" always felt like a great message to live in the moment. “Carpe diem”
A lot of people have been asking about this song and Alexander the great ....maybe it will go around.... the reactors are doing kind of the same songs more or less... these are 2 staple songs in the Iron Maiden catalog.
Perhaps it's just me, but I always find 2 songs dovetail to this one very well, Infinite Dreams and Heaven can wait. Wasted years deals with living in the past, Infinite dreams deals with hope and dreams and Heaven can wait deals with inevitability.
@@paulwalsh2344 Yep, that was his original name. "A wife had a baby, but it was born with only a head and no body. 'Don't worry,' says the doctor. 'Bring him back in five years time, and we'll probably have a body for him'. So five years go by, and there's Eddie the 'Ead, as his parents have called him, sitting on the mantelpiece, when in walks his dad. 'Son,' he says, 'today's a very special day. It's your fifth birthday, and we've got a very special surprise for you.' 'Oh no,' says Eddie. 'Not another fucking hat!'"
Probably my second favorite Iron Maiden song ( and the first one I've ever heard). You should do some Paul di'anno era maiden."killers" or "wrathchild " are, arguably some of the best work with him .
ok, Ive been asking for Phantom of the Opera for about four months now (and i'm not giving up on it) but i'm going to change it up a bit. Nov 11 marks the 100 anniversary of the end of WW1. I think it would be cool for you guys to react to Iron Maiden's Paschendale (the live video from Death on the Road) for that date.
Alexander the Greaaaat! You have to do it 🤘🏻 and Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys 🎃 the "Guy" is the best band mascot ever, Eddie! Hes been on every Maiden album cover in one way or another and is a bandmember just as Bruce or any of the other in the band 🤘🏻
This album (Somewhere in Time) deserves a live listen. Almost every song is as catchy and epic as this. There's even a song about running called The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.
@@michaelvondrake7489 for sure! my intro to Iron Maiden was hearing Genghis Khan, pretty much stopped me in my tracks! I love both versions of Maiden, but those first two albums had an aggression that i could not find in subsequent albums.
@@hotpockets3660 Paul had some addiction issues Steve Harris was not willing to let take a toll on the band. Bruce was completely bought into the concept of Iron Maiden. Love D'Anno but (imo) Bruce just fits...
Yesterday is gone, take what you need from it and move along. Tomorrow will never get here. Today is all we got, live in it and enjoy the hell out of it.
!!!!!PASCHENDALLE !!!!!...IRON MAIDEN.. ( NOV 11 REMEMBERANCE DAY...FOR ALL THE FALLEN & FOR ALL THAT SERVED RESPECT!!... FROM EAST VAN ...CANADA.... UP THE IRONS!!!!!
Ok, since you seem to love running, the Iron Maiden song for you is "The Lonniless of the Long Distance Runner"...epic musicianship and a subject that will resonate on you
Nice choice guys !! Now you gotta do Iron Maiden's Alexander the Great and you can see how brilliant they are at writing about History ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1oTEQf1d9Iw.html This is from the same record Somewhere in Time and also displays their prowess as musicians.
Yes indeed! It's such a great insight into Iron Maiden. The only thing better would be to see them live. I was so lucky to have seen them twice in the '80s. It was so long ago but truly amazing experiences.
I wasted many years in elementary school drawing Iron Maiden's mascot Eddie. Was on just about every one of my trapper keepers. Oceans of Slumber - Sunlight
Oh God of Earth and alter, bow down and hear our cry. Our earthly rulers faulter, our people drift and die. The walls of gold entomb us the sword of scorn divide. Take not thy thunder from us, take away our pride. AMAZING TRACK from an amazing record. Great choice my friend. Up the irons.
actually there is no gallop in wasted years , it's one of the few songs where steve is playing "strait 8ths" - eighth note pumping , meaning one note to a beat , it more of a chug than a gallop.
The appreciation of what youve already got can be the adventure and if you live every moment in consideration of whats coming next, you can forget to appreciate what is happening in this moment. When youre searching you need to allow yourself to find every once in awhile.
Heck yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaa!!!! One of the most beloved Iron Maiden songs. You have to check a live video performance even if you don't do a reaction video. Every time I see Iron Maiden in concert I.end up spending over $100 in merchandise because I always feel I didn't pay enough for the show they put on.
YES! Another classic from the Irons. 👍💪. This imo is their best. Epic song. ALLEGAEON: Proponent for sentience III the Extermination or Grey matter mechanics please.
Thanks for your videos Vin and Sori. It's a good company and exercise to listen both of you. Have a wonderful day guys, God bless you...and... ...Hail to The Village!!
Once again, Thank you Vin/Sori for this reaction. Apparently this song is a reflection about its previous tour (World Slavery Tour) that burnt out the band to the point that a split of the band was feared on those days..... Adrian Smith (guitar) was a great relief for Steve Harris (bass and main songwriter) that save the day after and exhausting tour....and they ended realizing that they were living the "Golden years". From Iron Maiden you have reacted the following tracks (chronologically song list): *Children of the Dammed (Harris) Studio version from Album: The Number of the Beast 1982. Reacted live version taken from: The Beast on the Road 1982 *The Number of the Beast (Harris) Studio Version from Album: The Number of the Beast 1982 *Hallowed be Thy Name (Harris) Studio version from Album: The Number of the Beast 1982. *Powerslave (Dickinson) Original version from Album Powerslave 1984. Reacted Live version from video album: Flight 666 - 2008 *Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Harris). Studio version from album: Powerslave 1984. *Wasted Years (Smith). Studio version from Album: Somewhere in Time 1986. *Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Harris) Original version from album: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 1988. Reacted Live version from Album Maiden England 1988 - released 1989. *Sign of the Cross (Harris). Original version from album The X Factor with Blaze Bayley on vocals. Reacted live version taken from Rock in Rio 2001 - released 2002. *The Clansman (Harris). Original version from album Virtual XI. Live version taken from album Rock in Rio 2001 - released 2002. So far, you have reacted to 9 Iron Maiden songs. Most of them from Mr. Steve Harris founding member of Iron Maiden and bass player. From point of view, this is how a song has to be reacted, listening first the Studio version in order to get the main idea, concept, vibe, clean sound, true feeling, voice power and other more important aspects from the song and then its LIVE version... although listening live versions is an amazing experience and is way better (when you know the song already) 'cause the adrenaline within us raises up to the maximum. Of course, there are lot of people who has different views of reactions in regards of studio/live versions and it's because of the sound, vocalist differences, vocalist interaction with the fans and lot of other things.... please consider to react to Iron Maiden at least once or twice a week..... also try to do your own research of the song before reacting.... and avoid "guessing reactions" in order to really feel that vibe when listening, cause the people who really knows Iron Maiden must understand their feelings, topics and philosophy..... sadly lot of people do not understand them at first. Powerful Band. Powerful and deep lyrics. Thank you Vin & Sori... PD,classic tracks from the Album Somewhere in Time are: All of them....... 😊🙂🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘. Please consider Alexander the great, Heaven can Wait, Caught Somewhere in time etc.... once again all of them are great.... Classic Iron Maiden Album.
That ‘guy’ is Eddie the bands mascot created by Derek Riggs and has predominantly on the bands album covers and shows, check out Strange World from their first album, slower even metal ballad sound to it but still a great track👍🏻
Guys you need to check out Funeral Mist!! Mortuus - the singer is playing all instruments and writing all the lyrics. Blessed Curse, Naught but Dead, Cockatrice are a couple of the songs you should REALLY react to.
You guys should check out "Infinite Dreams" by Maiden as well. One of their most epic songs, and the story within the lyrics is truly captivating! Another song to check out could be "The Piper Never Dies" by Edguy
Vin just to let you know that Iron Maiden will be playing the States in 2019 starting in July. The tour is called Legacy Of The Beast and they will be playing some deep cuts that they don't normally play live. This is your chance to see how amazing this band is live. I will definitely be going.
look for "wasting love" song by them off the fear of dark album...good video.. the lyric video helps but the orginal video puts the song into its content . its pretty deep in my opinion
Vin, your backstory of your childhood and memories of it, made this video. I come for the reactions, I stay for your insight and storytelling. Well done to you both. Much love.
It would be awesome if you guys watched some of Maiden's documentary films to get a better grasp of the way they are and their history. 12 Wasted Years, The Early Days: History of Iron Maiden Part 1 and History of Iron Maiden Part 2 are good ones.
Im gonna be that guy.....because I love you guys... World coming down (Live) Type O Negative That being said.... Wheres the EyeHateGod- Take As Needed For Pain or Medicine Noose Soulfly- Bled or World Scum More Anthrax, Specifically Inside Out Faith No More- Last cup of sorrow or Ashes to Ashes or Be Aggressive❤️ GWAR- Let them slay or Eighth Lock or The one who will not be named⬅️(Pleasepleasepleaseplease) And for Pony.... Nightwish........I guess.....😜 Love you guys❤️❤️
Because Jay is the sexiest masked man on the channel (up yours mystery lol) I second his requests and leverage the full weight of the Dumbassery behind it.
Amorphis: Amongst Stars, Under the red cloud, Death of a King, Wanderer, Silent Waters, Daughter of Hate, Golden Elk, Sister and brother, Shades of gray, House of sleep... Please!
Anthony Berumez I had 2 third row tix to Nashville and came down with the flu the day before. I was double sick for missing them. Iron Maiden and Megadeth are my two favs.
What in your black metal playlist? I'am all over the place, like black to portishead or Sade! And old obituary, possessed, and of course Venom.Well have good one!
Jussi Viitasaari I like Venom, Bathory, warskull, Xasthur, Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, Watain, Carach Angren, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, and so much more Lol...I listen to death metal as well but black metal has to be my fav.
This was the tour I got to meet Dave Murray after the show down on 6th Street .. Austin, TX .. At the Steamboat (no longer there) .. Good times .. Dave is a huge blues fan .. Couldn't believe at first that he was there .. Steamboat was one of my regular hangouts back in the day ..
Alright then. It would seem that Maiden triggers the Rocky inside Vin. Now react to Paschendale by Maiden or Chainsaw Charlie by WASP( you thought WASP was hair metal and trash, just go listen to the entire Crimson Idol record)
This song came out in 1986 when I was 19 and now I'm 53. I remember my older brother and I out in the yard listening to this and he put his hand on my arm and said...."bro, this song is so true, cherish your youth". He passed away 11 months ago and every time I hear this song I think of him and that day. Life and youth is fleeting and we all must cherish each moment we have.
Instant thunbs up. This is a very important song, you can take some away for yourself at any time, but it also documents the band's situation after a constant schedule of recording and touring for years. They've been working hard, and then they were drifting apart, beeing naturally fed up, you know, like they were somewhere in the world, ordering a meal from a place at home to be flown in, no matter how many thousand that would cost. At the same time, they were larger than ever before and of course recording one of their greatest albums. I really like those not too open autobiographical moments like "When a blind man cries" by Deep Purple. The good old times theme though is present in "Best Years" by Praying Mantis, another NWoBHM legend.
The chorus has somehow become a mantra of mine. Struggling With depression since i was a child it was more like an encourage to look into the future and not looking back at things that make me sad. The song was written by Adrian Smith during the Powerslave-tour, which lasted for 14 months or so? It took it's toll on the guys while it made them appreciate more what they had at home.
