Hulk gets really nerfed in the Mcu compared to the comics in the comics he is literally the physically strongest (notice I didn’t say most powerful) in marvel comics, his normal feats (ones were he isn’t at his max or amped) include Catching and supporting a collapsing 150 billion ton mountain range using barely any leverage. (Marvel Heroes Secret Wars #4) Tearing through a bunker designed to resist the explosion of a multi-kilo-ton weapon. (Incredible Hulk #177) Matching the Super-Adaptoid, who had acquired strength and durability of over a hundred heroes like Iron Man and the Vision. (Incredible Hulk #469) Closing the door of a nuclear core that the combined efforts of Thor and the Thing couldn't budge. (Iron Man Vol 2 #6) Redirected Gladiator's beams back to his eyes, instantly knocking him out. The blasts were said to be hotter than the sun. (Incredible Hulk Annual 1997) Matching two Avengers teams during a prolonged period of time even though the Hulk was gradually weaker due to a physical separation from Banner (Incredible Hulk #321-322) Unleashing intense gamma energy shock waves from his body, Hulk almost destroyed the entire East Coast with a single footstep, while also threatening to destroy the entire planet... and even then he was revealed to be greatly holding back! (World War Hulk #5) Destroying the Crypto Man after its physical strength became superior to that of even Thor (Incredible Hulk #205) Overpowering Thor on several occasions (Hulk: Let the Battle Begin #1, Incredible Hulk #440, Mighty Thor #385, Avengers Assemble #4) Pushing two spheres of matter and antimatter apart (Marvel Team up Annual Two #2) Pulling and holding the tectonic plates of a planet together, a planet that's mass and gravity far exceed that of Earth (Incredible Hulk #99) overpowering sufficient force to change the orbit (Tales of astonish #89) Destroying a planet and the surrounding planets/moons in the Dark Dimension, threatening the entire dimensional/universal realm (The Incredible Hulks #634-635) Destroying an asteroid that's twice the size of Earth in a single blow (Marvel Comics Presents #52) Applying force to the space-time structure itself to prevent the Defenders from being absorbed into a fissure (Defenders #3) Smashing and crushing Adamantium with his bare hands (Incredible Hulk #228; Marvel Team-up Annual #2) Overpowering and shattering Onslaught's armor, whose power and armor were equal to those of a Celestial (Onslaught: Marvel Universe #1) Sending concussive energy through countless dimensions after clashing with Ironclad (Incredible hulk #305) Destroying Nightmare's Realm with his sheer power alone (The Incredible Hulk #299) Crushing the enchanted uru hammer of Nul: Breaker of Worlds with his bare hands when The Serpent/Cul and his avatars known as The Worthy were at the height of their power (Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula #3)

As someone who's on the Autism Spectrum (High Functioning) I used to get bad anxiety about things and tried to brush it off before finally getting help through various therapies and I still have some anxious moments but now I can push through them rather than avoiding the issues. So seeing a Man like Tony go through similar situations and having been in life and death situations (natural disasters like Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Tornados I can under stand like his PTSD is like somewhat), made me push and strive to get better and now I'm thriving. I wish more super hero films devled into this aspect of being a superhero, I mean, the shit they go through doesn't mean they get out unscathed.

I completely agree! I was pleasantly surprised that they broached this subject using the "Iron Man" platform, to help dispel many myths about men's mental health, and at the same time communicate this message to such a large audience. Also, the fact that they never called it PTSD but instead used the phrase 'anxiety attack' helps as this latter condition is much wider spread.

A lot of people love the part where the suit rushes to Pepper during the attack on the beach house, and so do I -- But what really gets me about it is that Tony had to intentionally design and code that in. Just like how there was no way that Rhodey could have just "taken" the other suit in Iron Man 2. Nick Fury says that the suit wouldn't have done a damn thing if it weren't coded to Rhodey's biomechanics, and that it was a failsafe because he trusted Rhodey to wear it and have good judgement to use it properly, to hold Tony accountable to the amount of power that the suit gives him, if need be. It's a little bit of a misdirection - because that information is given to the audience AFTER the fact. So when the suit goes to protect Pepper as its priority, it re-contextualizes the scene with the jump-scare of the suit grabbing Pepper by the arm while she's trying to wake up Tony. It's SCARY, yes - but I'd put money on the fact that the suit would have just grabbed her and taken her to somewhere SAFE, whether that would be Stark Tower, to SHIELD HQ or directly to Natasha Romanoff, or something like that. I love the MCU, but I've always been a Batman guy, so I don't know the Marvel comics as well as I probably should. So somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that what the comics call "Extremis" only really debuts in the MCU right after he calls that guy Squidward. (No spoilers! If you know, you know, if you don't, you don't.) Also, another out-of-context non-spoiler, I love the fact that the entire message of this movie is, 'If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it."

The Marvel one shots are hard to find, but if you can you should. They’re short videos that show a little more than the movies do with some lesser characters. One involves Agent Coulson on his way to New Mexico to deal with Thor and the other one (the far better one) shows what happens to the actor that portrayed The Mandarin in jail. This short really tries to make up for the disappointment of not having the real Mandarin. Also, Justin Hammer returns and is hilarious!

One theme going through all three Iron Man movies is that the US and the military-industrial complex has a tendency to manufacture its own enemies. Either through bulldozing into situations needing a more deft hand or by propping up dictators or extremists to fight what they perceived as bigger threats. It's hard to say they were totally wrong always, or that their motivations were always sordid and selfish, but the theme does have a certain note of truth to it. Tony's dad created Obadiah Stane by letting him run the company and not making sure his immediate successor was trustworthy, he also created Vanko by cheating his dad (who shared blame, of course, but still, having someone sent to the Soviet Union prison camps was way out of line). Tony in some ways helped create Killian by being a jerk to him, but Killian was probably not a very nice person deep down to begin with. Add to this that Tony is very much a product of toxic masculinity - a father who was unable to tell him he loved him, growing up in Hollywood, an environment that *encouraged* being a sexist playboy jerk - but learns over the three movies to become less so, even if he still has other flaws. So, yeah, I really like the Iron Man movies. As for the rest of the MCU, without spoilers: the Captain America movies go more into what the price of security and freedom is, and if sometimes that price is way too high and other methods should perhaps be used. The Thor movies go into pure operatic family drama and the burden of leadership and legacy of a war-like past. The MCU Spider-Man movies go into what makes a hero - violence, self-sacrifice or just plain selfless courage? Captain Marvel is about gender roles and gaslighting, the two Hulk movies are about facing your inner angry person (everybody's got one), Guardians of the Galaxy movies are about family and found family in all the good and bad ways... It's funny that these movies actually have pretty clever themes built into them. :-D

It's fascinating how you being foreign to comic books don't have the same reaction that life long comic fans had. The Mandarin is one of Tony's great villains. Scratch that, The Mandarin is Iron Man's Joker. He has ten rings each with a different superpower, so there's battles are always Magic vs Technology. The terrorist organization in Iron Man 1 being the Ten Rings was seen even by me back then as a FANTASTIC Easter Egg about the Mandarin. He's called the Mandarin because he's a Chinese supervillain in the Dr. No yellow peril tradition. But he's classically epic. The casting of Ben Kingsley was seen as a brilliant subversion of that and the way he was presented throughout the marketing (like in the terrorist videos) tying him to the Middle Eastern was seen as a brilliant modernization. The Original Iron Man comic had Tony go through his kidnapping ordeal in Vietnam, hence his savior was Dr. Ho Yinsen; so he was always tied to the orient whereas in modern times it's the middle east. Kingsley's Mandarin switching it up and tying it to the Middle Eastern Conflict was timely and expected to have the gravitas necessary to be a worthy finale. So the AIM and Killian swerve was...not well received. I personally hated it, and still do, but I respect it, as it was in fact competently executed. As a piece of Tony's arc, it's a great movie. Tony's PTSD and the fact that the bad guys were injured veterans trying an experimental method of healing from their injuries shows the flip side of the war on terror, as well as the first fallout from the Battle of New York. The Extremis story arc was pretty revolutionary in the comics, and if I recall correctly was Tony's invention, giving him a nanotech Iron Man armor that he could store within his body. The Bleeding Edge armor is still my favorite Iron Man armor ever.

Great reactions(just binged all your MCU reaction), I really enjoyed it, This is my favorite Iron Man movie easily, and its tied for my 3rd favorite of all 23 MCU films, I absolutely love how this movie is about Tony and not about Iron Man, it's Tony dealing with PTSD after New York, also in The Avengers Steve (Cap America) told Tony that he is nothing without his suit and this movie he is without his suit for a long time and has to fight without it, I just really love how far Tony has come as a person since before he got captured in Iron Man 1 so again great reaction, looking forward to watching your journey through the rest of the MCU films

In the comics Tony is a hard-core alcoholic. Disney obviously did not want to go there so they gave him PSTD. (Captain Marvel was a drunk too and Tony ended up her sponsor)

The way your opinion of Tony Stark is shifting is entirely the point they meant to convey along his journey, and is so much fun to watch you trek along. Their is still a long way to go till the present where we are now, but I feel you will undoubtedly appreciate him more as a character at times to come.

I think the end credit scene is quite sad actually, because it's the first (and only, I think?) time we see Tony trying to talk to someone about his trauma and Bruce just falls asleep and acts very dismissive of it all. You can actually see Tony closing up so fast again when Bruce says he's not that kind of doctor and I don't think he ever tried any kind of therapy (friend or real therapist) again after that, at least not in the movies...

Iron Man has been my favorite from the beginning. I enjoyed the Captain America movies, with Civil War as my favorite of those; however, it was not until "Avengers: Endgame" that I truly appreciated just how much of a badass he is. (The part when he stands up and tightens his shield did it for me.)

I rarely watch this film. Not because I dislike it, but because, for me, it is so raw. I suffer from PTSD and RDJ plays it so well. When I saw this in theatres, I cried seeing his panic attacks and other symptoms. I felt a major movie had finally introduced PTSD to the real world in an easy to understand way.

A lot of people hate when they add a kid to a movie. But Harley rocks. You know how I know that? Cuz we're connected! Love how Tony just treats him like everyone else and not as just a kid. Brilliant! Harley (well the actor playing him) is also in Jurassic World, and he's good in that too!

Should you have time, do watch "Downton Abbey", it's a great British period drama about an English aristocracy in pre-WW1, starting at 1912. And it's not very long - each season is 8 episodes + Christmas feature special (except S1 having 7 episodes and no special).

It was such a swerve at the reveal that the "Mandarin" was an actor, because comics fans were waiting for the actual Mandarin. They had been teasing since the first movie - the terrorist group calling itself 10 Rings was a reference to the Mandarin having 10 magic rings

Fun Fact #1:Maya was originally supposed to be the twist Mandarin using Killian to fund her research who then created the Mandarin to cover her failings but Marvel thought a woman villain couldn't sell toys so they switched them. Fun Fact #2: Marvel wasn't sure RDJ was coming back for more movies so he "retires" at the end so Marvel could just reboot Iron Man with a new actor.

What this movie really lacks is a hard rock sound track. Iron man 1 had Iron man by Black Sabbath, iron man 2 had Thunderstuck by AC/DC, Iron man 3 has an orchestral soundtrack. They could have gone with something like Painkiller with Judas Priest but no they broke the tradition. I mean if they didn't want to go there because it wouldn't fit Stark's PTSD then they could have given Killian a metal theme to show how much he is like Stark used to be, or rather how much he thinks he is what stark used to be. Give Killian "You've got another thing coming" and then in the final fight when Stark gets his act together slap Turbolover in as his theme. Because it would leave it ambiguous if it referred to Tony or Pepper.

10 years old! The film isn’t really that special in my opinion but that doesn’t make it all terrible It still delivers all the essential summer popcorn thrills fans can expect The majority of the film is seeing Tony rising back up from the ashes to keep Pepper safe and stopping The Mandarin’s plans to spread fear and chaos as our version of Osama Bin Laden There’s a twist in the middle that will really upset a lot of people I know it did me The plot ends up being muddled squandering some good ideas and it stinks no ac/dc song this time around Some of the PSTD stuff isn’t handled perfectly The film thankfully has lots of inside references and callbacks to previous entries The action is still amazing to watch especially the climax and composer Brian Tyler makes a good heroic theme Plus Black emulates most of what happens to Tony projecting his own life struggling with addiction next to losing everything, he’s a very psychologically damaged hero Black inserts his snappy dialogue and Christmas influences like his other flicks while also satirizing American foreign policy and the war on terror We create our own demons, if you give fear a face people will believe it, terrorists consider themselves teachers, is there really no such thing as heroes?, do we want an empty life or a meaningful death?, some people say progress is a bad thing, anonymity can be used as a weapon, we can survive our success A flawed movie but thankfully isn’t the worst and left Downey to continue to do more until ‘Endgame’

The Ironman trilogy and Thor trilogy are in order of favorites to me. Both Ironman 3 and Thor 3 Ragnarok are both my favorite movies in all of the Marvel movies. Ironman 1 is second rate great as well as Thor 1. But unfortunately Ironman 2 and Thor 2 are just okay. But that's just my own personal opinion I also really like Dr. Strange and the Antman movies. The comedy is so well written!

Killian's motivation is lame because Maya was the original villain of the movie using both Killian and Trevor as public stand-in's, but Marvel Studios was run by Ike Perlmutter back then and he didn't want a female villain fearing it would impact toy sales. This was one of the many things that eventually led Kevin Feige to go to Disney and be like him or me at Marvel Studios.
