The sounds the irons make when u connect with the golf ball, and its a honey, WOW!!! Other golfers look with envy and hate at the same time. Lol. Clay is definitely a wizard!!! Awesome
I compressed a mid iron shot very early in my golf game. Best feeling I’ve ever felt. Been chasing that feeling ever since. Getting closer. Thanks, Clay!
This has got to be one of the best tutorial videos for beginners and intermediate out there loaded with specific tips, each a practiceable drill in a session. Im going to keep watching this video everyday and practice until I get it down before watching the next “hot tip” video. Thanks Clay!
The first drill worked great for me. I wasn’t taking a divot before so focusing on driving through and hitting down on the ball gave me an extra 10-15 yards and more consistency with my irons. Shot my best score of the year (75) off 8 handicap. Cheers Clay!
Great videos and instruction. I haven’t picked up a golf club since I was 12. I’m now 26 and a week back into it. Yesterday was my worst practice yet. I can home and watched this and the driver video. Today was completely different. With the help of your videos, I’m already hitting 100-150 yards on my irons and 200 yards on the driver, Thanks again!
You are a very lucky man in the fact you have such a key understanding of so many fascits of the golf swing mechanics. So teaching pros love to just give tidbits to reel you in like a fish on a hook; you do a wonderful job of giving the major swing factora, then, you continue with easy and very simplistic methods to help the body and mind ingrain and implement these fundamentals in a practical and easy to understamd way of remembering. Too many online and otherwise golf pros go far into too great of detail and way too advanced jibberjabber leaving the client with no better understanding then they had when they started. You have a true gift of giving crucial information and making it easy to follow, why it is needed, and how to easily implement the procedure. Keep it up.
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard, it’s truly my pleasure. I greatly appreciate your tutorials. It’s nice to feel like golf doesn’t have to be as hard as an advanced course in applied mathematics, lol. You’ve helped bring power and consistency to my golf swing and I greatly appreciate it.
My sons always watch your videos and now i caught on ,,, Awesome tutorial with the split screen which i can identify my bad habits in motion and understand what i need to correct..
clay thanks for let me see some of these videos on these irons I understand what you're doing and what you're saying now I've been practicing it I was practicing the wrong way
Most definitely. I have all the videos I'm able to watch from you in a special folder that I'm able to access from anywhere I'm at. Even on the course with my phone. Keep up the great work!
Excellent video Clay. This builds off the straight line release ethos, and after using that I started blocking to the right a little but this video gives the next piece to that how to use the hands. Fantastic can’t wait to blend that in with the new body rotation. Great instruction again Clay your UK fan base will be growing.
Clay, it seems almost more natural for amateurs to hit shots and play golf with feet starting together just to always reinforce dynamic forward weight shift. Insufficient contact seems more a product of separated feet ! A concept that is hard for many to learn.
Hey Clay, I bought and used that spray can and it helps me tremendously. One of the most efficient investment I made!! Thanks and looking forward more great video to be ready for the a new season.
I love your videos.. However, most people trying to learn the game are practicing at driving ranges with the faux grass mats. It would be great if you could post videos of practice sessions hitting off the mats. Thanks again for your posts!
Hey, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, this is just a poor way to practice but we did just do a video on the AcuStrike Mat that can be used with mats. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, Thank you for your great videos, your tip of the club swing 'feeling' like it is out to the right is a great way to start your hips and weight moving through the ball..if you do that the rest just comes natural..I agree with all your other fans, your the best, thanks again
Hey Clay, I found a bunch of your videos on a couple different Roku channels. Like multiple channels devoted to Top Speed Golf videos. Surprised the heck out of me. Great video by the way. Keep it up, you explain things so we'll.
Clay, I see that in order for the divot to start in front of the ball, I'll need to have a vertical or slightly forward lead side compression line. Thus, the opposite move we use for a driver where we want to bottom out behind the ball and then hit up on it. I haven't hit a ball yet since you taught me about compression line, but it does register with how I think. It makes sense. I may only need to hit one iron and one driver practice shot and have it all down.
Hi Sonny, thanks for sharing. If you have a narrow stance and/or play the ball more forward then you may have a target leaning Compression Line. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
hello clay i'm playing some golf now after a couple of years off driving the ball great but my short game is killing me ,i know what i'm doing ,pulling my body up and not getting good contract with the ball ,just watch your video on Iron Swing Basic ,so i see that forward shaft lean should help if you think i should be doing something else let me know i was going to the range send time working on short shorts
Hey Walter, yeah, that would help your short game for sure too. We have many videos on the short game on our channel too if you want to check them out. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I really love your hat. Wish I could get one. I'm starting to go bald on the top and I have to wear a baseball cap which feels okay except the back of my neck gets burned while playing. Nice! At 62 I can't take any chances. Keep up the awesome teaching.
I haven’t been able to get any solid answers on this question but maybe you can shed some light on it. Are you always supposed to take a divot in front of the hall with all irons? Same kind of divot in front of the ball with a 3i as you do with a pw?
You'll take a divot ideally with all your clubs but the divot depth and length can differ. You'll come in more shallow with longer clubs due to the length of the club creating a wider arc and you'll also play these clubs a little further up in the stance. You'll get a deeper and steeper divot with wedges because they are shorter clubs and the ball is played typically more in the middle of the stance. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
First. Love Clay he made golf fun for me and I highly recommend his course online. I can’t hype it up as much as it deserves!! Okay second what happens at 12:52 in the video behind the green?? Looks like the ball took a crazy bounce, did he dunk it or something? Idk
If only driving ranges still used grass...the mats hurt my shoulder and elbow. Unless you’re at a private club that still uses grass tee boxes, it’s hard too practice making divots and know if you are covering the ball. Have any tips for this kind of situation?
Yeah, I agree 100%. I would recommend putting a thin towel on the ground behind the ball. If you hit it then you know you're hitting behind the ball. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay. Enjoy your presentations however I have a consistent and frustrating problem. When I practice my irons I shank maybe 30% and occasionally on the course. I have invented my own ( embarrassing) solution by taking my trail hand off the club at point of impact the results are more pure shots and shankproof. It is however disconcerting. Any advice? Phil
Ideally, the left wrist would be flat or bowing in the start of the downswing. It makes it easier to square it at impact. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Can you speak specifically too the straight line release (which is club between the arms ) a few feet past contact. I love this terminology and ideal position to get to. After working on trying to get to this straight line after impact (filming myself and reps) I found that I was delivering the club (straight line) directly at impact. So I do flip the club (very disturbing to see in slow-mo). But man... is this tough to break. I was under the impression that I needed to deliver the club to the call at this straight line at impact. Which brings me to this question or hoping you can explain further. If we are getting to straight line after impact then is the full force (energy & momentum) of the club happening way after impact ? Please help
Hi, thanks for the question. The release is happening in front of impact. The club is actually slowing down when it's getting to the release so it's at the fastest point at contact. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Clay, why can't we just get some rustoleum and spray that instead of foot spray? Isn't that a better idea? I'm dead serious, just get some nice orange or red. That would be fine to use right?
Don't remember if I replied already or not but at that price, I can't really afford it due to wife's disability but maybe someday. Saved the website info for later. But thank you very much for the quick response.
@@TopSpeedGolf can I send you my swing through email or something? I have a decent swing but struggle with consistent contact and missing left. I think I flip the club at the bottom but not sure.

It's called the Nike Sun Bucket Hat, but unfortunately it's not available anymore. However, if you search that term you'll get a bunch of other similar products. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
