It's true that she much more likely meant her team and loved ones with this particular phrase, but it's also evident she has a lot of mutual appreciation and respect for the other ladies competing Ironman, so it's not terribly far-fetched and also has very little to do with your "socialism" strawman @@adamsosa 🤡 "Yesterday was a special day for women in our sport, it was a day where women were center stage. I am a legacy athlete who competed this year and I saw Lucy on the way back when I was starting the bike. I screamed my lungs out cheering her even when I knew she probably could not hear me because of the aero helmet. I was honestly happy for her and just being racing in the same race it feel unreal. Congratulations Lucy you earned this win!

Lucy, I have followed you for more than 4 years in this sport - yes, I am a Ryf fan...but I studied your journey throughout...the 4 time 2nd place finishes, the frustrations with injuries and the numerous disappointments. I never cry but I almost very nearly came to tears for you when you crossed the finish line in first position! I know you don't need any one's approval, but know that I am very proud of what your represent. Your character and tenacity is something that is now driving me to achieve a lot more than I thought is possible!

Cried like a baby watching you win Lucy. Watched every second of the race. I remember when you were on crutches saying to put every moment of frustration as a metaphorical penny into a jar to be drawn on later as motivation. It really feels like all that pain helped you on that run. Inner reserves that might not have been there without the setbacks. Everything seemed so difficult at that stage but from ‘biro in the eye-gate’ to ultimate fulfilment, glory and happiness. Utterly inspired by you and delighted for you. ❤🎉🎉 Ps the X factor is clearly the dogs (speaking as a dog lover haha) Well done. 🎉

I've never seen or heard of a more deserving world champion in any sport! The mental perseverance required to keep working and keep believing after all those heartbreaking second places is such an insane feat! You're such an inspiration to us all!

Was lucky enough to be on course and watch all my favorite female athletes compete that day. Nobody was going to LCB on that day, she looked unstoppable. Congrats Lucy!

Lucy, you raced for your life! I was absolutely glued to the tv the entire time and when you crossed the finish line, I felt like I had done it with you! My heart was pounding. At midnight I actually turned of the computer to go to bed and watch in the morning the run part but this time I said this is looking good and switched back on and made the right choice . So happy Lucy did it great race from all the competitors. Probably the best covered race from Hawaii in a long time cameras focusing not just the front runners made it more entertaining

As a massive lazybum who finds three runs a week a struggle, seeing this is just so inspirational. All the hard work that goes into this and the sacrifices that both of you chose to make is just insane. Massive, massive congrats and will be silently cheering from the (ahem) armchair on all of the exciting races ahead!
