Professor Goodfellow has invented the Goodfellow's Effort Elimination Computer, G.E.E.C. It does every possible task so humans don't have anything to do except sit around and watch television. Some of the Super Friends don't think that's a good idea, especially if something should go wrong with the computer.

Wendy, if you want a mouse as a pet, buy one from a pet store. A mouse running around in a building is a disease carrier.

The original Plastic Man was a lot darker. I remember one story where Eel O'Brien admonished his confederates when they told him about Plastic Man with "Sounds to me like you boys have been hitting the pipe!"

They didn't get into the van, but they did go to the building. If the professor was evil, he could have grabbed them anyways.

In real life ,we have(at least in los angeles) we have robotic carts that can deliver food. In one news report, we have a robot police dog(no lie). You can create a Virtual Girlfriend online so this episode seriously told us about the future. And don't forget about self drivable cars....and Don't forget the "Plastic Man Comedy and Adventure Show" Saturday Morning series from thr Early 80's

Though the Justice League made valid points with responding to what Wendy said, they all ironically missed the other equally important points of what she was implying with her words, namely, that humans are social creatures by default (despite how many anime/manga say otherwise on the matter, let alone real life societies, both in the East, AND in the West), and that machines cannot ever replicate the social needs, nonverbal cues, implied cues, and general social cues that are the legerdemain of humans. Also, when people need to ask questions to G.E.E.C., as, like real life AI systems, G.E.E.C. fails to understand the more subtle nuances of human behavior, let alone can answer more complicated, and/or obscure, questions, or even do so in satisfactory ways.

When you said test pilot, for a moment, I thought it was Hal Jordan, but he comes later. No lantern, just yet. Really glad that you're doing this show. I watch your other reviews, and they are a treat. And this show, for a diehard DC fan, is a nostalgic curiosity, I'd say. It's goofy, right in the midst of the comics code authority's power, and season one, especially, was strange, before they started adding villains, like Joker, Captain Cold, Grundy, Darkseid, Bizarro, and many more. Just the greatest heroes, in the world, responding to things, around the world. Thinking on it, it makes sense, as a warm up, for the Legion of Doom, and Darkseid. Just folks, getting together, to do some good. Also, I wonder if a coworker of mine, has ADD. He talks about boredom, quite a bit. Just recently, we had an easy night, at work, for a change. I welcomed it. I could take my time, no stress, plus it's unusual. He was steadily looking for other stuff to do, besides what we're contracted to. Additional tasks, and whatnot, stuff we're not responsible for, instead of, for once, taking it easy and just finishing our jobs and heading out. I get more than enough excitement. An easy night at work is great. Well, not as hard. He was going out of his mind.

This was always my favorite episode as a kid. Maybe because it actually had a guest star (even if it was only Plastic Man, who wasn't a JLA member, later they got Flash and Green Arrow to redeem themselves).

I remember watching this when it first aired. For a moment, I was sure they were going to call on the Atom. But Plastic Man was a good choice, too.

In the comic books, sometimes the writers use initials in the speech balloons to save space. It is ridiculous to hear Plastic Man and Superman calling each other "P.M." and "S.M."
@jsimpers

If anything, Plas would have called Superman "Supes", as was often done in the comics but never on the show to my recollection.

Sounds like two executives discussing business... "What is your intake regarding the synergy performance meeting, J.B.?" "Moving the needle, H.L."
@Buzz-McCool
@Buzz-McCool Месяц назад
Does this mean that a conversation between Aquaman and Plastic Man, they'd be calling each other, "A.M." and P.M."? All the other Super Friends would be asking, "What time is it?"

What is scary the world is heading this way. Machines are taking over and we are welcoming them. Pretty prolific episode for a Saturday morning fare. I like how the Super Friends were concerned about the life of a simple mouse. Most people will consider it a pest and let it die, just as long as they can get out of the machinery.

Plastic Man sounds a lot like Aquaman, which is not surprising since both were voiced by Norman Alden. This version of Plastic Man was not wacky at all. The 1979 Ruby-Spears cartoon is closer to the comics than the Hanna-Barbera Super Friends version.

Yes, milord, Pat O'Brien, er, um Plastic Man had to be comedy relief. He OP to the max. Recently revealed in the comics was that Bruce considered him the most dangerous of the bunch (if he ever lost the silly) ....and that's freakin' Bruce! Nsh, had to be comedy. Reed Richards on steroids.

Wow! This episode had access to the future! It should be made mandatory viewing for Musk and his contemporaries. Nothing about hacking though (like how to access and control machines say in other er, places....🤔). Great review! Even played it out with the theme from the Great Escape! .... Oh yeah. The satellite might have burned up in reentry but if Goodfellow could control the batmobile he might have figured out how to take care of that, though impact with ocean..... Need to stop overthinking.

They were created to give viewers someone of their own age (at least, the target demographic) that the heroes could explain things too, and who usually solved the case. Eventually the comics gave them "backstories" in a text page. Wendy was the daughter of the man that taught Bruce Wayne how to be a detective, Marvin was the son of Diana White, aka the original Diana Prince, whose credentials Wonder Woman bought back in WW2 (pre-Crisis).

As soon as I saw GEEC, I knew Plastic Man was coming. He was much more in character for a two season series which featured Plastic Baby in the second season. But still, it was good getting a guest star for the episode.

So my question is: Why not simply use these new-fangled machines to deal with the more serious problems and things nobody wants to talk about or deal with, so everyone else can worry less about food, housing, etc. and focus on things like hobbies and passion projects?

Ohh we know this is a fictional series because because they never once brought up the actual problem that requires the geek to be a real bad thing money and power and I mean by electrical power how much battery power does the geek functionally need to use? Are you going to charge for your service or are you going to make it for free how are you going to make sure that these people still get the food that exists because the geek has to make that food![that said the subscription service to take breaks would be a good thing especially in a society where we do not like vacations because the business{thinking us mindless machines} class doesn't still understand that people are people]
