Oh trust me gender dysphoria legitimately feels like you are stuck in a purgatory realm where your body is withering away. The idea of being stuck in a tv show is spot on when you aren’t aligned with gender expectations. I mean think about it the tv set that is life (from the perspective of a trans f) requires you to wear a wardrobe that excludes dresses, skirts, bras, makeup, fake eyelash and instead hands you tshirts shorts and jeans. The script they hand you tells you what mannerism you can use, what tone of voice you should produce, what names you can get away with and the type of partners you should preferably date. Any attempt to stray to far from this idea becomes the Truman show, characters that would have never approached you or payed any attention subtly or directly begin to block your path and bambard you with questions as to why you are doing what your doing and try to sway you back into the character they have assigned you…. It’s madness

I did the same. this is exactly why i love going into movies blind. because of the chance I run into movies like this.

Exactly! That’s what makes this film so interesting! It’s disturbingly relatable by inviting you into something everyone in life can find oddly familiar the constant time lapses as well as the anxiety and loneliness connects us all as if we’re all living within a dead memory but then simultaneously highlighting the trans experience by making the Pain of Isabelle so readable on screen showing the how intense this kind of dysphoria is for Trans people.

Yeah it was very relatable in that sense. Are we actually experiencing life or just walking through it?

Yeah I haven’t actually seen the movie yet but the trailer reminds me of David Cronenberg, Paul Schrader or even slightly of the movie ET. It’s not a horror but there’s influence from the genre.

Same. I wrote to A24 asking for a special collector 4K like they did for The Lighthouse and others. I ended up seeing this three times in the theater and I never do that. ...there is still time...

@@melodyp6ws This movie was pitched to me as psychological horror and it was a boring turd heap. Her statements here would have been good to hear before watching but even then it was just a bad movie and interviews like this just seem like after the fact cope. One of the biggest movie disappointments I've experienced in my life.

THAT , is exactly how this movie plays out also! I saw it today , and , it was so odd. I especially loved the actors are just talking alone on the screen and explaing what they are feeling or going through with such weirdness adding to every sentence it just didn't make much sense , lol.

I get what they were trying to say, which was essentially “No,” and more specifically “This movie doesn’t conform to traditional genre expectations and I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea that my artsy surrealist mood piece is a conventional horror movie and then they not like it because it was marketed wrong”

My friends (some of which are trans) found this movie very dull and pretentious. If the trailers were more honest about what the movie was, I think not AS MANY people would be complaining.

​@@Lilbuckets2 It's not the kind of horror it's advertising itself as. I get/like the trans allegory, but it's tricking people into spending money on something that they didn't ask for. It's presenting itself as this supernatural creepypasta-like horror film, when it's actually just a VERY slow, and kind of pretentious coming-of-age story. I'm glad you got something out of it, but you can't blame me for being disappointed.

​@@FrankLee-f7yThe story never seemed like a horror movie to me from the trailers, tbh. I expected a coming of age story, and got a subversion of that type of story. The character does have a coming of age, but it only makes things worse for them.
