This bear is so far the most relatable enemy in the game. Instead of facing his problems he just sits in the corner and cries. And in the end chooses to kill himself.
Always noticed there are very few videos about how stages actually work, instead most guides are thorough walkthroughs "bring this op and place them here at this time" I find an analysis of the stage more interesting so even if I'm not too good at doing it myself I wanted to try making such a video Also I've been playing disco elysium for 2 days straight so I haven't done any runs worth uploading
Yeah even the simple stuff like "this attack does physical damage, this attack does arts damage" needs an annoying number of hoops to jump just to find it.
I actually straight up couldn't find that information about whether the rock attack is physical or arts on any of the website that show the stages I had to test it manually
Was very helpful since i think theres a lot if players like me who avoid searching boss guides in detail since it spoils the fun and we end up ignorant of some mechanics. In my case i just learn boss mechanics after multiple repetition but IS isnt like normal stage where you can just keep repeating so it takes longer to notice certain things.
I swear RNG is against me when I try to fight this boss. It's either the game just gives me Slot/Deploy limit relics or I have a full team but couldn't any find medic tickets.
Yea everytime RNG screwed lot I meet requirements to meet the boss including the (latter) When I have no supporter got stage have bulldozer and wraiths. when no medic, fast deploy on poison haze stage...
Sometimes it be like that. Went through a boss 1 run (didn't get any alternative boss encounters spawn at all) and for ground options I ended up with: 1 vanguard ticket (initial 3 at the start, beanstalk), 1 specialist ticket (initial 3 at the start, Therm-EX (so no blocking)). Then nothing until ch3 where there was a second specialist where I had 0 hope (so yay getting use out of the reserve op vanguard). Then chapter 4 I got a caster and was able to pick up (and later E2) Amiya guard, and the stage after I FINALLY got a second medic (first one was Mulberry since had low hope) and was able to pick up Kal'sit. And then right after that (while still at 0 hope) another vanguard ticket for getting plume (since fang/vanilla aren't levelled). Still proud of the fact I leaked under 10 enemies through the entire run when for over half of it I had beanstalk crab as the only blocker (and had no healer either until nearly the end of floor 3 as well). The run before that meanwhile I had almost nothing BUT defender tickets (throughout the entire run 1 guard ticket, 2 sniper tickets, 2 caster tickets, just a LUDICROUS number of defenders and 0 medics)
me too. yesterday i got very lucky with my relics but it wouldnt give me the bear boss encounter even though i went to every one of them and had already unlocked the first ending
For those who might be wondering, there is a slight variation of the second method that Silvergun mentioned to kill the boss. If you have the Supporter Hand (do 3% of current HP as additional damage), you can essentially cheese the boss to death with that Hand. If the boss has no regen, you only need that one supporter hitting the boss. If the boss has regen, you will probably need someone else to help push the boss over, as the Hand will take the boss down to about 50% and keep it there, but at that point the regen starts winning.
A SG stage analysis? That's definitely a welcome change. I usually take the aggressive route with the Bear and try to eliminate it quickly, but waiting for it to rage quit is also pretty entertaining.
Useful guide, especially the advice about using physical damage. I lost to him a bunch because I tried arts. It takes 8 minutes for the boss to kill itself, which would be 4 in double speed.
Most people don't know this but the enrage mechanic is something the flower in Under Tides also did, called Species Outbreak. You just had to go out of your way to somehow not kill in the boss in the allotted time. Although, in that stage, the penalty was 99 HP seals in a stage that only has 3 at most. Technically it's not "killing itself" it's just doing what it deems as a fail condition (which because of the premise of IS makes it very easy to circumvent) and removing itself as an enemy.
0.25% hp/s means the bear regenerates about 750hp/s though if you have enemy hp artifacts it’ll be a bit more or less. The bear explosion timer is 8 minutes but most of the time you’re playing at 2x speed so 4-5 min is expected. I hate this boss but I laughed my ass off when I finally killed it because I had a scuffed team that I didn’t expect would make it past the first wave of elite enemies. May, Bagpipe and La pluma love their spinach.
I beat it on my second try with E1 perfumer as my only healing source. It was my most scuffed run ever. Everything leaked on the right side and I won with 2 remaining lives and a very stressed Jaye.
I appreciate the guide. The game doesn't explain the boss's mechanics very well and I lost so many times until I figured out how it worked. I actually beat the boss for the first time after watching you use Cutter and seeing how much damage she does against the boss.
very helpful. I died to this boss several times at first because I placed thorns against it with atk spd relic. Lo and behold when I fought it with slower attacking dps it went fine.
doesn't help that in many guides I've seen people placing Thorns to kill the bear, without mentioning that doing so makes surviving the stage way harder...
i normally don't like videos because i use my likes as bookmarks but you're the king of is2 to me 🤙i recently beat phantom with only ursus operators and discovered beehunter s1 can tank the wandering puppet infinitely with healing from just about anyone which was very funny. want to attempt the bear next but the lack of healing (only gummy and jaye) makes it super rng dependent 😔
@@DrSilvergun ty ty ive thought about like stockpiling lives and doing jaye bladedance solo depending on what i get. its a shame aurora is useless on all bosses tbh (edit) wait im dumb if i have enough aspd i can bring bees also no matter what. my brain is poisoned from funny bladedance solo clears
yeah that's what the his entire story is about (and in the event where he gave us the blank suicide note he went and jumped from the tower). the boy really would rather die than be controlled by the troupe. poor kid...
Yesterday i just kill this boss. So lucky that i obtain spinach and its other that gives 100%, that 1sp per 2.5s, and blade dance. Smashed this boss using mudrock, BP, la pluma. Per hit was like 3k or something, don't forget BP and pluma skill hit twice, and mudrock hit 8k i think. At first i was sad blade dance fell to saria not those 3, but in the end after thinking about it, that was the most right RNG grace for me that made saria heal and hold lane like a gigachad. Sorry for oversharing
We are happy that u were able to slain the bear, its not oversharing at all. For example I try to avoid this boss, since I dont have much luck with it and I dont want pick units at the start just for this run which may fail
Awesome video and guide. Ever since I saw one of your runs where you destroyed the BEAR with cutter and jaye that has basically been my go-to strategy, just unload physical damage. I can't wait for the third boss guide, since I only tried that once and I have no idea what to do.
option 1 - bring ambriel win option 2 bring a lot of operators and keep retreating them after they kill the puppets idk if i'll bother with a video on it Find the puppet much less interesting but we will see
thanks very much for the guide. Lately I've been finding myself preferring guides of this fashion as opposed to ones that are more of a walkthrough of a stage with more specific operators, as this leaves the problem solving aspect of the strategy-making in the players hands to figure out with whatever operators they actually have access to.
Nice explanation i was use the second strat where kill the boss slowly it because last time i do the boss i was use exu with high atk speed but low atk that wipe out all my operator on field :)
I don't understand why but this boss is definitely the hardest for me personally, both phantom and mouthpiece I can devise a strategy for based on whatever squad I've got going on. So long as I'm not careless in my execution I can usually beat those bosses when I encounter them, but for the big sad lock my w/l ratio is completely reversed and I think I'm just going for the wrong type of clear. My luck is actually pretty mediocre and I don't raise most of my units past e2 lvl 20 and most don't have masteries because I'm stingy on resources and favour the versatile playstyle provided by a wide cast of medium investment operators vs the hyper focused max investment I see on some other low spender/f2p accounts. That means, most of my attempts simply do not have enough damage to try and mug the boss in the first 20 seconds, but that's how I've been setting up my clears. I should be building for the other two approaches, thanks for the insight.
imo it's difficult because IS quickly becomes attack speed focused, and most of the best operators in IS are already quick attackers and multihitters. Lots of people probably struggle here because the mode naturally causes you to make things difficult for yourself.
I'm kinda doing the combination of all of 3 of those approach and found it to work the best for me. I'm trying to rush the boss as fast as possible using my highest hitting units, while holding the left line and middle and ignoring spawns on the right. I usually am able to beat boss before too many spawns there.
the bear is either super easy or a completely insurmountable obstacle in my experience, first 2 attempts i got absolutely trashed with no hope of making it, my intent going from there was to build up 30+ HP to leak him and focus on holding the basic lanes, but then that run decided to give me a total of +128 attack speed by the end, +35% physical damage buff, and i had both e2 ch'en and cutter. so he died in less than 2 minutes. the atkdspd on ingot relics are by far the most broken ones, every single stage turns into a cakewalk with them
Healing is important for this stage. The boss basic attack already hits 2 operators and its counterattack hits every operator on the field. AoE healing is good because of that. AoE damage is very nice for hitting the mobs and the boss at the same time. Blaze, Ifrit, Chalter (or Pinecone for 4 star) all work well.
For those who still having hard time, E2 Perfumer lvl60 with module to able to make your whole team alive with it skill one and the other land for E1 max Gummy and someone to do extra damage behind gummy
this boss legit give me a headache, route 1 is a cake, and i can't finish route 2 for a month after i finish it i tried route 3 and i managed to beat it first try, only the bear that really handed my ass down
Lol no wonder i got screwed when i fought the bear using exu. I thought the shield explodes base on dmg received not attacks received. Also i didnt know you could do stall strat i thought it would go on forever till you kill the damn doll guess this is the bad side of wanting to always fight stages/bosses blind i avoid searching guides since it reduces the fun for me.
I just win this bear today with only 2 heavy hitters with 0 damage buff or any asp buff at all and it has regen-up too, with only 4 live points. Almost feel like losing at 1st and stalling all enemys are so stressfull, took sometime still win in the end but got really tired after because of how stress it is.
Me being smug entering the stage with an exusia plus atk speed items not knowing about his mechanics, whole squad got wiped as exu s3 proc on his shield. Sad times.
I managed to get him yesterday. Mudrock's 3 skill and Thorns as the main DPS. With some other weak units to chip in a little damage. Or block some enemies to give me some time. Overall, roetty good.
The return and reincarnation of Essence of Evolution?? Also I am right now applying as voluntary apprentice because I am bored with high rarity operator E2s all the time and I need to balance myself for IS with 4 stars because they are economically cheap. So far I E2ed Myrtle, Shirayuki, Jaye, Perfurmer, Cutter, and Click. Will also probably do Pinecone too
How I beat the bear the one time: Ch'alter + Divine Speed go brrrr while I flail to plug the lanes with my other operators Advice for getting 30+ lives for the "win while losing 30 lives" achivement? I tried it using Research Squad but only topped out at 28, despite a perfect run. Should I be prioritizing certain node types?
Probably Essence of Evolution bcs you have to constantly watchout for the little bugs that slow your aspd by alot, plus in its last form its shield blocks everything but true damage.
i trying kill it a whole week, and i still cant, i dun understand how to get so many base hp to not fight boss and fight just mobs i always lack operators on 1 side and it leak till the end lol, or its no suicide letter and its rip this boss is my most challenge in this game since 3 years lol
@@prozacx Bladedance guard SP gain + Some spinach item is usually a freewin especially on normal Also there's a tile where u can hit the bear with a mine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eOQgC769a5E.html
@@DrSilvergun thank you, the video with cutter is crazy omg, i just clear it, and you wont belive the absurd happen i start with jae vigna and mai, then game always give me specialist tags lol and i clear it with jae, specter unchained, blaze and lee, i still dont know how i do this, bcoz last my most lucky try was a Thors Blaze Mudrock and Irene, and it was attack speed item with 50 origium, lack of second good medic ruin it Sorry for bad English
