At 2.2 lbs per liter, toting water for a 14-mile stretch on the Pinhoti Trail makes for a heavy pack. But it’s dangerous to skimp on essential hydration, so we sucked it up and took the weight penalty. Was the extra pack weight making me loopy? Maybe a little.

Beautiful and yes that was eerie. Last year we flew out to AT Trail Days from CA., and also hiked a teeny section of the AT. A few days later, we were going to do another teeny section in Tennessee, but heading there, a car was on my bumper so I pulled off and down this FS road where it said there was a trail and a waterfall. We decided to just hike that. After several miles past where they said was a waterfall and we never found one, we were just looking for a place to camp. In a not so clear, clearing but flat at least, we were looking at how/where to set up. It was getting dark. I did not like the area, but stayed quiet until I heard voices of men talking, like right there among us. We ended up hiking back, fast, in the dark with headlamps until we got to our car at the trailhead and camped there. Very creepy. Maybe just a time warp, leftover energy from the past or something else we can’t understand, but the feeling I had made me want to bolt so IDK.
