When you covered the BIS about a month ago, the 'gold' reference in the BIS charter caught my attention. It is a clear statement that gold is 'real' money. A similar analysis to yours yesterday, said that Basel III is an indirect way to re-introduce gold as a reserve for the financial system, and that now that it has to be physical gold, we'll see gold prices rise as bankers realize they can improve their books by allowing gold prices to rise. This other analysis also indicated that the bankers agreed to this change because many banks realize they are financially at the edge. This move allows them to raise the price of gold and immediately improve their books, making them more 'solvent' ....

The ECB has tonnage on its books - the eurozone economies have to park a certain amount at the ECB. The ECB has 15% of its reserves in gold, and they mark their gold to market every quarter, as opposed to the US, whose gold is in "deep storage", marked at $44/ounce. The ECB's balance sheet improves as gold increases in value.

What effect would it have on the banks if people took most of their money out and traded with cash? I seems like the banks would have less money to loan. Not sure if that would shrink their business or not. I personally use mostly cash when I go shopping. I still have to pay my utility bills with checks or credit cards because the utility companies are many miles away.

Do you have any suggestions for moving away from the financial system with regards to receiving payments, salaries and paying for things? I understand about keeping savings in gold, silver etc but are there any decentralized platforms we can use to replace current accounts that are safe.
