Phased out 3 6.7s for 6.2s starting a few years ago. I still have one 6.7 mostly for long range towing on hilly tows mostly. No issues, cheaper maintenance, cheaper fuel. Total of 6 trucks in our fleet. Will be trading 2 2500 hemis in for f-250 6.2s. We have been very impressed with these trucks. BTW ALL 3.73S
@@robertmeese6545 I think the 6.2L actually gets better with age. I have a 186K mile 11 6.2L F150 platinum. Everyone who rode with me said it rides (and sounds) better than a new truck. 3.73 max tow package. Gas mileage on the highway is 18-19 at 60 mph. After I changed the oil a few weeks after I bought it to PP HM runs even smoother.
I have the same truck. The tires are most likely the reason for the sway. The 6.2 is a great engine and does the job, since I never tow over 8500 lbs. Great review!
Great review. I've ran the 6.2 in a dually for 300k and only done one tune up at 279k. My new F250 I wanted the same engine. I have the xlt fx4 and live it. 10 mpg towing anything and on fairly flat road I get 18. And up around 60mph. 17 at 70. This is the last truck I will own as I'm too old to wear it out.
Hey, I’m looking to factory order and F-350 Dually with 4.30 gear and a 6.2 L engine for my landscaping business. Since you had a Dually with the 6.2, how was the gas mileage? Was it able to handle towing moderately heavy loads? Would you purchase a Dually with the 6.2 engine again? If you could answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.
Those Ford 6.2s are rock solid engines.. I had a 2017 model very similar to that one. Same color, just in an STX package. 6.2 3.73 rear end, crew cab short bed. Loved that truck, wish I had kept it! She was a work horse.
@@SuperDuty250Decided to trade and get into a new Cummins, then that truck got totaled out. Haven’t had an F-250 since! I want another one though. If I find the right truck with the 6.2 and fairly low mileage when I’m ready, I’ll pounce.
Those 6.2’s are great. We have some F-350’s with them and we’ll have them loaded up with 80 gallon bulk tanks, probably around a thousand pounds worth of tools and material and pull a 12,000 lbs skid steer trailer and run the piss out of it and it’ll start up everyday. Don’t get me wrong it ain’t that fast but it gets the job done for what it is lol.
JB you do great video's . Hey your a nice guy and I'm sure you have quit a few people that care about you . Don't drive that fast while towing !! . Screw the RU-vidrs that want you to do that crap . 👍👍👍
Would be very good But sadly there are only 6.2 with 10 speed available on f350 (DRW) only, and most f350s with the (DRW) are 6.7 diesel or another popular one coming the 7.3l V8. 6.2l with the 10 speeds are rare
@@semajniffirg230 Hmmm...mine has been flawless granted I only have 23,500 miles on it, but so far, it has been fantastic mated with my 3.0 duramax. Smoothest drivetrain that I have ever driven.
My 2014 F350 with the 6.2 just rolled over 100k this past week pulling my travel trailer from southern PA to OBX. It runs great without the diesel headaches.
Have a 2017 XLT crew cab FX4 with the 6.2 and 6-sp auto. Great truck. Carfax said the rental company owned it for the first 43000 miles so it’s had a life. Bought it from a friend who had it since then. Replaced shocks, tie rod bar, new rear diff cover and all fluids. Towed 9 different trips with a 33’ camper (dry weight 7311, fully loaded way more). Thing was great. Just developed a ticking sound which was diagnosed as a bad intake manifold…super common on the 2017-2018 6.2’s. National back order had me waiting nearly 3 months. Just came in. Will replace and hope to get many many more miles out of this truck (has 114,004 miles now, up from the 96000+/- when I got it may 2021). Still way cheaper than a new truck
Great video! I have a 2020 with the same drive train,no issues so far at 80k miles. That made me nervous when you slammed it into park after having a gmc shifter come apart, they use a cheap plastic clip on the transmission to select gears 🫣 I did learn not to use to much armor all on those steps. After detailing my f250 I about slid off the steps and busted my ass😂 I would definitely put the audi a couple feet up further in the trailer putting more weight on the truck,it will clean up the sway considerably
That's impressive how well that truck runs. I'm looking at getting that same truck instead of a F150 because the 150 has either turbos or the 5.0 has cylinder deactivation. I don't tow or need a 3/4 ton but don't trust the reliability of the 150.
This was good. I was towing 6000 lbs with a 2008 Yukon Denali with the 6.2 liter engine. Towed good but would overheat if ambient temperature was over 60 degrees. That was a pain and in the end it blew the engine. I’m driving a 22 super duty with the 7.3 engine and I absolutely love it.
Seems hard to find a bad review of the 7.3 which is why it will probably be in the next truck I buy. I'm a ram guy coming from a 2500 with a cummins so this is a major step for me. Hope I don't regret it because these rams have been very good to me but I'm looking to get away from diesel and ram doesn't make an engine with comparable displacement.
@@treeamigo8447 the 7.3 is a future legend. The damn thing even has pistin oil squirting jets. Find one gas engine that has that feature. Its overbuilt and designed with extreme simplicity and minimal stress. Just not great on fuel
@@treeamigo8447 yeah its true. Nobody builds gas engines like that. Except Toyota oh and industrial strength diesels. The 7.3 is also the factory option in the 15 ton Class A motor buses. I dont recall seeing the 6.4 hemi or GMs 6.6 being up to the task in that application😁
Regarding diesel, they’re tow beasts fir sure, but multiple short trips are hard on a diesel. Discounting max tow capabilities, a gas engine is better for frequent on off cycles.
A lot of people get a diesel when they really don’t need it, you prove that a gas engine can get it done. The diesel emissions aren’t a problem when they’re worked like a diesel. When pushed hard on a regular basis the DPF doesn’t require regeneration. Diesels love foot to the floor driving. But if you are using it as a daily grocery getter you will have problems with the DPF, regardless of brand.
I bought one of these used during Covid. Basic model, white no thrills. I have had it for two years now and when I bought it there was 24000 miles on it and now it has 65000.. i use it for my business and I have two job trailers. I live in pa between two mountains so it has to climb hills no matter where I go really. I usually have to tow a track hoe which weights about 7500 lbs and of course construction materials. I am happy with the way it tows. The 6.2 liter is strong, the truck suspension is strong. The only thing I found like you have found in this video is it seems to have an issue in the lower gears where it gets stuck in third if your going down a hill. It will do this even when you are not towing anything. I usually slow down and let it catch up when it does this. My house is on the top of a hill so when I leave I am immediately going down a grade and the truck seems to get stuck in 2nd or 3rd the rpms go up but it won't shift. until I either step on gas or apply brakes. The only other problem is sometimes when I put it in reverse, the reverse will thud. Seems to thud into reverse instead of smoothly going into reverse. I don't know if that will come back to haunt me when the truck gets a little higher in miles. Guess I will find out. Nice video!!!!
Thanks for doing this video. I’m buying a truck in next 2-6 months. I was gonna go dodge 1/2 ton because I love the rambox. For the same price I can get f250 worth this engine you tried. I’m now leaving this way👍🏻
Great video. My 2015 F250 gas 6.2 4wd had trailer sway. Replaced it with a 2017 Ram Cummins drw 4wd which has no trailer sway and great exhaust braking. I don’t use a weight distribution hitch or a sway bar. However, I’m researching going back to a gas motor due to maintenance cost of $18,000 in 105,000 miles. Replaced EGR, DPF, and turbo charger actuator to keep the truck legal in addition to tires, oil and fuel filters and other items on the maintenance schedule. I tow a 6,000 pound RV trailer around 3,000 miles a year out of the 25,000 average miles drive per year.
Thanks for the honest words about the Diesel. I have always wondered how it would make sense financially. So I guess it does not after all. Of course I fully understand there are other things that make the Diesel interesting for some people. But for a light duty user like me, the economic benefit probably outweighs.
Traded the Ram 3500 dually for a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd 5.3 liter RST and love the new truck. I know I’ll need a Equalizer 4 hitch and relax when towing the RV trailer but the every day drive is so much better than the 1 ton dually. The trade off was worth it.
Love your reviews man. I just traded in my Chevy 3 days ago for the 2020 F250 6.2L....I am willing to give up my 5.3 for a 6.2 any day.....Im just doing light towing with my classic cars to car shows and and dump runs. Plus I missed the space it gives me over feeling cramped in the Chevy. This suits me just fine with the 6th speed and when I had my F350 2 years ago when I was towing, the 10 speed was very "clunky" for my taste! I love this truck and in 2 days, I've already done all kinds of low end mods.....so needless to say, I am invested!
Awesome! Have a unicorn 2013 ford f150 supercrew lariat plus with a 6.2L.....at 24k original miles. Upgraded from my 2006 f150 supercrew lairat with 5.4L that pulled my 4 horse trailer well in mountains......Absolutely love new truck. Great review!
I bet GM’s GAS 6.6 even with 34 lb ft more torque wouldn’t do any better than that Ford 6.2. You called the Ford 6.2 ancient lol. It’s still a pretty modern engine. The Ford 7.3 destroys both of the above. 10 speed helps of course.
Yea I’m hoping to get another one and take it up the 6% grade. The 6.2L is about 11 years old so I figured I would pick on Ford lol! I agree and it would be my choice over RAM/GM 👍🏾
Good review. Looked like it had plenty of power. I’d like to see how much gas mileage it would get over the course of a normal towing trip. I think the new diesels are a little disappointing in fuel mileage. Mine only got between 10.5-10.8 towing which is not quiet 2 mpg better than my new truck. The squat is misleading with this truck because it did look about level but still squatted 2.25”. That’s not a bad number or anything but because it has some rake it don’t look too squatted. Maybe you should try backing your car in the trailer. I know most people with rails (dragsters) back them in the trailer since the engines are on the rear.
Are you climbing any grades with that MPG? That seemed low for the Duramax/10 speed but with all the emission crap, I think that’s what hurt the MPG on modern diesels. Thanks bro 👍🏾
Yes sir. A lot of grades. There’s about a 13 mile stretch that is all up hill slightly with 6% grades that vary from just about a mile long to over 3 miles and it ends with about a 3 mile stretch that is 8%. But it’s all small hills and curvy roads. My 1500 gets about 8.8-9.1 on the same trip.
I have a 2017 ford F250 with the 6.2L gas. Currently sitting at a little over 80,000miles. After purchasing it from the dealer (used) a couple of years ago, I did a few long MPG tests trips traveling from AZ to CA empty at 72 mph. I was getting 15.2 - 15.5. When I did my first oil change, I switched to Royal Purple, my mpg’s improved to approximately 16.5 - 17 mpg at cruise control at 72 mph. After driving it for several thousand miles, I discovered that 72 mph is the sweet spot for highway speed/fuel efficiency. I also have a 9’000 lbs travel trailer and I have also done an mpg test loaded. I am getting 7.25 mpgs at approximately 65 mph. I do have to say, my truck/trailer also gets a lot of sway. I am looking at upgrading the weight distribution hitch to a Hensley Hitch. When I did the mpg test, I did it manually by resetting the trip meter and calculating distance and gallons of gas. I love this truck for my needs.
You need to learn more about the details on transmissions and setting up a trailer. I appreciate the walk through but that vehicle is a top level platform for HD work. Including the 6 speed trans.
Looking at a 2017 XL same thing gas engine with towing package and it has been towing a trailer, just like yours it has the bed slide setup. I want nothing fancy as I fish and hunt. Will be pulling a 24' 6500 lb boat my current 1500 Chevy has been very good but she struggles up and down bridges. I think I'm going to enjoy this F250. This is what I been looking for as far as a review thanks
If the maintenance has been kept up, she won't even FEEL that job. My 2015 has 151,000, and she'll hold her own against about anything, gas or diesel. My gas mileage sucks right now since my resonator is shot, but a new set of true dual cat-backs is next on the list. She would barely squat at all with a load levelling hitch.
@@JB_WhoWork The 6.2 is a great engine,I bet it would run just as good at 300 k as it does now. Diesel is dead for ppl who are towing 13 k or less, the diesel doesn’t make sense.
Love you video. I have a 2015 F-250 xl extended cab with a six inch lift on 37x13.50R18. I thought my mpg was going to be horrible. I was wrong truck runs great. I do have the same issue though , I do have a lot of trailer sway but not when I hook up to a gooseneck trailer. All in all I think I am just going to stay with a gas truck. Don’t get me wrong I would love to buy a diesel but I don’t think it’s worth it in the long run.
One major breakdown on a diesel out of warranty and most will decide they don’t need it. Also the sway is probably caused by the load being to far back in triler
The Duke says, I Put A Banks pedal monster on my 6.2 F350 and feels like I am driving a Mustang GT. No more pedal lag at all. Drives like a sports car. What did I teach you?
I have a 2012 F250 with this same engine. It delivers - but Diesels have their place if you are using them for commercial towing. If you're using your Diesel for your everyday driver, I really think you are throwing a lot of money out the window - and the emissions controls they have to put on Diesels are a maintenance nightmare when they start to age. F250's are so much nicer for towing than F150's - no argument there.
Put the weight pack a little farther and it will take care of your sway problem. A box trailer always has a little sway cuz of the wind you catch but you just have too much wieght on your bumper
Thanks for the video, I just ordered a 2022 F-250 4X4 crew cab with the 6.2 L. Was debating on whether to get the 7.3 L but thought I’d save the money and didn’t really need the extra towing capacity. Hope I didn’t make a mistake. The 6.2 L seems to be a pretty solid engine though.
You made a very good choice! I bought an Loaded 11 F150 plat with 6.2 has 186K, It runs like a new truck. It has 411HP stock. You have to be careful not to get tickets. My neighbor tried it and he said drives and pulls better than his new 5.0L. I did over the front end when I got it. Tow is 11.1K. 3.73 axle. Its an F150 so only 1400 lbs payload. So it was run way below its capacity. I read they rarely have a valve spring issue. You can't go wrong with that motor!
The bigger problem with diesels is all the emissions equipment added that doesn't last. I am curious if anyone added a turbo charger to the 6.2L? It wouldn't take much boost to get a lot more power when it's needed.
That 3.73 is a good balance between fuel mileage and towing ability for an owner who tows occasionally. I tow 7500 pounds but only every other weekend during camping season. The rest of the time it commutes. 7500 pounds with 3.73 and this truck won’t even struggle. Mines a few years newer but same set up.
What is your milage while empty? I'm debating upgrading to a 3/4 ton from my 150 to tow my camper better but like you said, I'll be empty most of the time.
@@ryanhessler8966 it’s a 2020 F250 crew cab 4x4 STX. 6.2 liter v8 and 3.73 gears. 14-15 commuting. 8mpg with 7500 pounds camper and 2 passengers. I like towing with it. No struggles even in the smoky mountains. But it rides rough when you hopping around town hitting potholes.
@@80spyder1 awesome! A guy I work with has the 4.10 gears, 4 door long bed and said he was only getting about 9mpg, but that was doing 80 on the interstate. Thank you for the real world data and reply
Great review. I just bought a 2019 and looking forward to a better tow with my dump trailer. What hitch assembly would you recommend as I saw your adjustable height variant. Definitely looking for more of our vids
Thank you for the great content! I'm in need of a 3/4 ton truck to tow my 38 ft travel trailer (8500 lbs) I found a really good deal on this exact 2017 truck you have in this video with 60000 miles on it in great condition. Would this be a viable option for towing my rig occasionally? I'm considering this because I really can't afford more than 40 grand for a truck. The one I'm looking at they are asking 37 grand. Thank you!
@@JB_WhoWork How much you towing? 14k+ should be handled by a diesel, not because of pulling power. A gasser can do that, but because of the engine brake. Stopping will always be more important than pulling power.
"This thing is ancient! Wow, this guy has 100k miles so ge really put it to the test." Im dying over here. 2017 is ancient and 100k miles is end of life apparently. How spoiled we have become.
Hey man I like watching your videos on towing your trailer with different trucks, but do you think you could do a video on towing with a lifted gas truck, if you can find one?
People dont use damn Tow/Haul mode that say there is no power. I have a 6.2 F250 with service body weighing 9855lbs and walk on people getting on interstate everyday. Regular mode, not so much.
14:12 if there’s sway it’s your tongue weight. 9,000 lbs should have 900 to 1,000 lbs tongue weight. Less than that it will sway, especially if your car is too far back in the trailer.
100000 miles is by far😅 high miles,I have a 2008 5.4 with the hated3 valve moter, I have 256000 on it and runs perfect, key to those moters,is maintenance changing the oil every 3500, I know a guy that has 400,000 before he put his 5.4 3valve to bed and it still ran rotted, many people have 300 plus on the 54 3 valve in the 6.2 the last overhead cam

Why are you slamming the gear shifter in and out, just beacuse it s a trucks doen't mean you have to man handle it. Good review, could o withou the music.
I believe Ford introduced the 6.2 in the HD trucks in 2012. Certain models of the F150 got the engine as well as the first gen Raptor. The Raptor was tuned differently than the one used in the HD trucks
My question to you...... is do you see yourself towing your 5th wheel up that grade with that engine? Your opinion, then I'll give you mine. I have done it just to give you a clue:)
@@JB_WhoWork Made 1 trip in the 6.2 that's all it took me to decide to trade it back in for the Diesel within 2 months of ownership. The dealership at that time pre covid felt pity upon me and took it back. They sold me a brand new 2019 The 2017 was a used F350. They gave me back all the money I put down, plus there full asking original price. I got lucky. The new truck now sits solely to tow the trailer and the odd time or 2 I need to go to the lumber yard. I am sure it will outlast me in age:)
how do you know where to have the car in the trailer? is there some sort of formula you follow to put it where it needs to be? I'm just curious as I know it is important.
I took it to a weigh station and figured out total trailer weight then divide the tongue weight on the trailer. You typically want 10%-15% tongue weight.
