Is a Sevylor Tahiti any good? Probably. An early version made some historic voyages. A Frenchman took one down the Amazon river source to sea, twice. Audrey Sutherland paddled hers up the Alaskan coast over two summers doing 2000 miles and before that kayak camped around the Hawian islands. Yes it’s a good kayak.
You have a 3 man kayak that you are paddling from the rear seat, so no weight up front which will cause the front to rise in the water and catch the slightest bit of wind. It's no real surprise you experienced what you did. Weigh it down with gear and a second person and you will have a whole different experience. I feel a 1 man would be much better suited for a single person such as the Advance Elements Advancedframe kayak, plenty of room for 2 100 litre dry bags and yourself.
Donegali this inflatable kayak thing is something I’m not used to but learning fast, I knew that it had too little weight on but on my second video, I implemented the skeg and was in the middle, I got a three man one so it can take two people and some gear. Thanks for the comment 👍
Donegali aww, thank you buddy and it’s ok I value all comments, some may not be positive but to me they all important and give room to learn, your comment was valid and nothing wrong with it. Thanks for your time and sub, I’m humbled 👍
Did you fit the skeg? Used my Sevylor Tango 3 Z-Pro in lot windier conditions than you had and it's never handled like that except the one time I forgot the skeg.
johntarmac1 buddy it never came with one and I never knew I had that option, I would appreciate a link to one if you got the time. Thanks for the comment buddy
@@BeeOutdoors Ah, mine came included and fits onto 2 lugs on the bottom at the stern. I'm not sure what model you've got but maybe this is helpful. If not google it for your model. www.amazon.co.uk/Directional-Skeg-Sevylor-Riveria-Pioneer/dp/B005UWIU6O/ref=asc_df_B005UWIU6O/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310533975996&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6636603236360910592&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007113&hvtargid=pla-717698327033&psc=1 Ha, just looked at the vid again and you've got a Tahiti, the above should fit but might be cheaper elsewhere, I just posted the first link I saw.
🚣♀️ I made a second video with my kayak with the new skeg, check the difference it’s made 👉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MbmdeDG9ohU.html
I use a two man inflatable for my gear and me, it rides a bit lower than it should but with me weighing 22stone it's hardly surprising lol it's actually not too bad on lakes and rivers if the water is calm enough, been swamped a couple of times and swam back to shore to bail out, luckily my gear goes into a couple of big garbage bags
hey mah bru, I've used the level up from that model, not sure what the model is but it is solid stuff man! I've had two day sessions in it and it handled very well wind was no issue and we even went super close to a strong weir on the thames. You'll have to check on my previous video a month or so back, its a short daytrip and you might see what model it was, it was definitely more stable than the one your'e using by the looks of it. Cool brah, I still need to log in to facebook and look for your groups etc.
To me this 3 man inflatable is a decent utility canoe/kayak/dingy thing. if it were me, the wind issue us because it doesn't have any keel at all (which wouldn't have be as much problem if there were 3 paddlers, their weight would displace more water, and its whole bottom would be driven into the water. But as far as the utility aspect, I would just fashion a fixed rudder or two to keep the wind from blowing you sideways. (I reality, wind issues affect long canoes much too) 🛶
An inflatable kayak seems so handy, but if it doesnt work properly I guess I'll pass. Do you think there's a difference in brands or are all inflatables similar?
Lila actually the sevylor is one of the best out there and I have learned that I need a skeg (fin) and that improves the performance. Thanks for watching and the comment ❤️
I have never used an inflatable canoe or kayak. But I can imagine the wind being a big problem. Canoe across the lake here quite often and have sometimes had to really fight with the wind. I think with that I would lose. On the other hand it must fit nice in the car. Still a handy bit of kit in the right conditions.
the same brand but models up work better than this one he used, I was on the thames a few weeks back and someone had this model, they were very high off of the surface of the water but the model I was using handled very well, we paddled for hours. :)
Nice video. Trust me these kayaks are pretty ridiculously durable. I took the 2 seater wabash on white waters in the Towy 3 times now (all summer so low water, but only tipped twice). Also did sone crazy white waters in Austria. We also crossed a huge bit of Ullswater in both the sevylor hudson and the sevylor wabash loaded full of gear and with crazy waves haha. The skeg definetly helps on still water though. Best thing about it is that it is much harder to tip over than regular kayaks due to being inflated.
@@BeeOutdoors no problem, glad it helps. Hopefully you will find the kayak fun if take it on a bigger trip at some point, to put it through its paces, would love to hear how it goes or even better to see it on your channel. Good luck with it!
