My PSP was stored away for years as I'd lost the charger. Recently got a charger and just installed custom firmware on it. Thank you for showing all the possibilities!
i mean yes and no... the screen is soo bad... last time i turned on my pc i was like HOLY SHIT its ugly AF (but some reason it has oil damage like it fell in the fryer but yeah the screen is full with oil) kinda sucks that it was dead it still worked fine befor.... but yeah i now have a gpd XD with is amazing but yeah psp games are hard to emulate...
Dude, thanks a lot for the video. I was planning to pick up a handheld some weeks ago I was going to get some new stuff (Vita, 3DS), but your video really inspired me to get the old psp. I did so particularly for the MS trick you showed and the amazing psp game library. As a 90's kid I having a blast with my psp and all the games of my childhood days. Thanks man.
I know you made this video over a year ago, but I just found it and liked it. Thanks for all the info. I just bought a slim psp 2000, and going to mod it and install emulators. You just answered a lot of my questions. Thank you for all the info.
I just recently put a GBA emulator and a bunch of roms on my PSP, I am amazed how well it works. It works better than SNES. SNES, I always notice some sound anomalies and some slow down here and there.
The fact that PSPs have dedicated buttons integrated into the design makes it ferl much nicer than emulating on a phobe with those weird clip on controllers.
As someone who totally loved my PSP1000 It can be softmodded too It was in fact easier and more exploitable than the 3000 I also found that the system was more durable than the 2000/3000
Soft modding a 3000 is no different then any other psp model, it's just not hard modable nor can hard flash custom firmware past that they're all the same.
Hell yes, the PSP is a lifesaver for me when I'm travelling or at my girlfriends. It's so good I've bought two so I've spares and if anything goes wrong with my day-to-day. PSX, Snes, Nes and not to mention amazing PSP games themselves. Definitely recommend getting a SD to Memory Stick Duo converter and then just loading up a 64Gb SD.
Custom themes is how i bricked my first one, the video explicitly said, "don't change your theme to original" ... i immediately selected original (or whichever broke it) ... damn shame...
I'm glad I didn't sell or gave away my PSP. Never would have though a lot for this device in 2017. I also managed to get a hold on one of those Photo Fast adapters, and there are still the best. Thanks for sharing.
Same here. I got it in nice package with soft case and everything. It's awesome how many game I can get in there, thank's to the little hack on the memory stick showed in this video
The large battery is for the psp 1000 the oldest model. I remember making a pandora battery for my psp 1000 back in the old days when you have to hard mod. Then years passed by and it got easier.. where you can just sign homebrews to work on a official formware. All thanks to dark alex for the m33 firmware
Awesome info! Yeah that large battery lasts a long time. The first one I bought was swollen and wouldn't fit. So I sent it back to the seller and they sent me a good one.
Great explanation of PSP capabilities. Still in 2017 I think PSP was and is one of the best portable consoles, and after hacking it turns out from a great console to a veritable monster gaming machine. Still love my PSP
Thank you for putting everything in the description. Those Due cards are indeed cheap (wayy cheaper than the vita cards...). I have a 64gb on the way with plenty of ISOs ready to be thrown in it. Seriously didn't think modding this handheld was this easy :)
This kind of quality content should be getting more views. Shame all the people get fooled by those viral clickbait compilations. You can tell all the work that was put into this video and it feels awesome to watch.
Excellent system man. I love these Psp handhelds. I remembered dumping tons of tokens on alien vs predator, aero fighters, and ninja turtles. Back in the day when games and arcades were great ! Nice video.
I had a hacked psp and it was great eventually I upgraded to a vita and it was worth every penny not only does it have some great games but I was able to hack it just like my psp and not only did it have a slew of useful homebrews and emulators but I was able to fully emulate a hacked psp on it and play all my old favorite psp games and load up my old homebrews. Best purchase I’ve ever made
My PS3 brought me here. Lol I just got mine back out today and installed remote joy lite on my computer to play on a bigger screen. I have the component cables but for some reason quit working. I played the entire Symphony of the Night through those cables. Good times. I have the silver 2000 series running 6.20 pro B8.
A modded psp or any sort of modded console is as relevant as you make it. The Psp can be a Gameboy, Nintendo, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Multimedia station, Remote control for your tv. The sky is the limit...
FINALLY!!! SOMEONE WHO FEELS THE WAY I DO ABOUT THE PSP!!!!! And to update you on the PSP Mods, the PSP-1000A and the PSP-1001-B CAN BE MODDED!!!! The PSP Slim CAN be modded!!! I've modded SO many PSP MODELS in my hay day that I can't keep count anymore. I'm from Chicago, and the CATS that I KNOW are still playing the PSP without fail. Sure, they own PS4's and all of that, but who can play MArs Matrix on the PSP??? Emulators and the Capcom CPS1, 2 and the CPS3 CAN RUN on the PSP. The Processor on the PSP was a FUCKING MONSTER!!!! Something THAT TINY was packing a serious PUNCH back in the day. Great reviews brother.........Thanks for DEFENDING THE PSP!! And the PS1 ISOs are so easy to find and load up. ^_^
I miss my 2000's. Someone stole it from my house 7 years ago, i remember my emulators and my childhood psx games 😭. I will be getting one for my son this weekend, saw a shop that still sells brand new 3000's. I will be taking care of it for it will be still awesome years from now.
Back in the day when you were a god for doing all these hacks and mods now it is pretty much useless when our phone can do it much better, the old times were the best !
I would rather play on a modded PS Vita where I can play my PSP games and also second analog stick is a game changer for PSP games. I also enjoy playing PS3 through Remote Play.
I used to have a modded PSP so I could play retro games on the go. However from watching ths I can see I was only scratching the surface with what the PSP could do when it's modded. Just noticed that you are getting closer to 1000 subs! You'll hit that before you know it
I love my modded PSP, the screen quality and battery life on the damn thing are astoundingly good still today. I once lost it down the side of the couch for 6 weeks, and when I turned it back on from power-save it STILL had half a charge! I haven't even watched this video yet because I KNOW a modded PSP is still useful. Ima watch now. ;-)
Oh, one last thing, the PSP-1000 IS indeed moddable. In fact, back in the day when I got mine, it was the only model that WAS moddable. ;-) Loved the video, time to check out moar!
The thing about the psp is that sony stopped making batteries for it and it's really rare to find the original since most of them have become out of shape because of not using it. There are still psp batteries out there but those only last for a max of 40 mins and sometimes switch off randomly
Still have my "Fat" PSP that i modded in 2008. Even experimented a bit to make my own custom Eboot files. Was really much fun and a interesting way to understand how the PSP works and handles files. If only it would have used MiniDiscs and HiMDs instead of the UMDs. That would have made the PSP rely a lot less on the super expensive MemorySticks.
Woah cool! Yeah I forgot about minidiscs. Those official duo cards are spendy, but that's why I use those 5 dollar micro sd cards duo adapters. They are a bit cheap but work great.
Am i the only one who thinks that a spinning disk drive is a a Battery drainer and a Flash memory is superior? Like UMD won't even last 1/3rd as much as it does with memory Stick.
@விஷ்ணு கார்த்திக் : No, that's still a myth that these drain batteries a lot. Even less if they had used MiniDisc / HiMD instead of UMD. Have you seen that a lot of MiniDisc walkmen ran on a single AA alkaline battery? They lasted quite long with one battery charge. Because the content doesn't need to constantly being read. Only when the data is actually accessed and buffered in the ram. Flash Memory was and still is way too expensive per Gigabyte and also not very reliable. Especially for longterm data storage.
I love the old classic Retro games from the 80s and 90s, so I seen the Psp 1000 on ebay for a decent price with sd card and quite a few games were on it. So it started to download emulators and its amazing the amount of games available. Well worth getting one!
Considering the fact that my PSP can't connect to my modem, I don't think it will be bricked any time soon. LOL It's the PS3 & PS4 I have to be careful with because I still purchase games on it.
+Ninja-X3 Well its really just a disclaimer. I've never had any issues personally. But you are referring to bricking like not being able to go on a store anymore, or the Sony server somehow banning you IF it could go online. But what I'm saying is who knows what update files/homebrew/system hacks are out there and anytime you have unknown software modifying your firmware it always has a chance of bricking or rendering your hardware in a unplayable state. For example my other video on Wii modding, there are some steps that you can do that will literally mess up your wii so it won't start up anymore, and it has nothing to do with the Internet.
I just love my psp, bought it 4 years ago for 100$ and it nevers gets old :D, especiaaly because of all the emulators I have on ti :) by the way where do you buy decent batteries for those , the ebay ones just seem like crap
TIMELESS!! Yeah they are amazing when loaded up. The batteries are hit or miss, but I did find mine on ebay or amazon a few years back. Seems like the first one I bought was on amazon and it was defective and had to return it.
I was about to sell my moded psp1000, but now, this opens a lot of possibilities i didn't even know were possible without a lot of work. I will have to try Thank you
the Vita blows the PSP away.. but it is still a great system.. what i dont like is the analog stick will need repair quicker that other systems.. and there is only one.. if i have a choice between a modded psp and a modded vita.. ima take the vita every time.
anyone know the link to a perfectly running crash bandicoot playstation one game, the copy i keep running across freezes up at a the second or third save point, the game basically freezes up, please help
Thanks for SUBSCRIBING to Sunset Hotline and Keeping It Retro! Here is my video on a Modded Wii ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JAdF0MyOjM8.html
@@oscarruda7200 I used to get them from torrentz sites. Things have changed after all the shutdowns, but you can still find them if you look hard enough and have good anti-virus software.
The PSP is the best portable ever when you mod it. I did back in high school and played a lot of emulators and ISOs on it. I still play mine every now and then, though definitely not as much as I used to.
Retro Game Players I found that the Genesis emulation worked the best. What I loved about the modding scene was that people started making eboots of any and every PS1 game, even stuff that wasn't even on the PSN store. I had a lot of fun back in the day with my PSP. Unrelated question, what is the star fox looking game that you have playing in the background? Curious it looks awesome!
I dont even care about handheld consoles but that castlevania theme just catch me on a tight spot to consider buying one just to emulate all the castlevania series.
Great video, just inspired me to buy a PSP for £22 and one of those adapters for £1.09 - have loads of old Micro SD cards laying about. This is my 4th PSP after selling the previous 3
Music and video are just obsolete for a PSP now since we all got smartphones now, but for gaming, damn, that little fucker still rocks, can't get enough from it.
Thanks for a great video! I finally managed to get some emulators and ROMs onto my PSP phat. You have a huge selection of games on your system, kinda envious hehe ;)
Hello guys, nice vidéo... I just baught a brand new used handheld emulation gaming console for christmas. A Silver 2004 PSP. And this cause of your video. This beauty cost me 25€ (~25$). If you look for cheap emulation gaming just go for it. Cheaper than Raspberry, and more handy than used PC...You can't play multi with retro games. That for me the only inconvenient with this setup. But for the price and the quality of the device, it's not a big deal, and you can steel play multi with PSP games even online. It's my first handheld console and i'm happy with it...THX
bought a memory stick for my PSP and it should be arriving next week. I am planning on modding my old PSP with 128gb of storage to work with. obviously i'm adding my favourites back in the day, as well as adding games I never got the chance to play.
don"t forget the remote joy stuff... You can basically plug it into a windows pc via USB and play tekken 6 on your monitor or laptop. it streams the gameplay video really good! gets a little choppy sometimes, and we have emulators like ppsspp today, but still... this old stuff works too!!! i used to play tekken 6 like crazy on a old laptop... it runs pretty well, too. i don't remember the software name though... Oh yeah... I bought my used silver PSP-2000 in like... 2009? still runs like a charm!!!! nothing broken.
If you have so many games and emulators you should use the game categories lite plugin to organise that stuff lol, makes it a lot easier to find specific stuff
The 1st psp was in my opinion much better and sturdier than the following models. It had a nice mechanism for the UMDs, had a better grip (was more thick on the edges) and the finish was much more nicer than the slim, because the slim was actually black shiny plastic which gave it a cheapo look, when the original PSP was a black plastic background with an overlay of clear plastic, giving it an awesome look.
Lol my psp was my smartphone through middle school. RU-vid, Facebook, Games, GoldenBoy, GTA cheat devices, Camera... all spread out across 7 seperate 8gb cards, plus 3 batteries from the 2 other 3000's I bricked and cannibalized.... Good Times, glad Ive still got mine
Lol. Nice movie collection. ‘Welcome to dark place, Liz..’ I just started messing with my modded psp Again. I should prolly update some of the emulators. I need to check out that video converter you mentioned. The last one I used had these annoying audio pops every few seconds. Also, every version of Tetris I find seems to be missing the iconic music. I had the GB version, and I have the rom of it, and I always remember that track as being the first audio track. Damnit Mandella, lol.
Got a PSP with CFW from my brother years ago (when you could still find PSP games in retail) and spent soooo much time with a GBA emulator running on there. By now, the battery is completely dead, not holding even a little bit of charge, so I upgraded to a Vita. That thing is a beast, and absolutely amazing for games that only got translations made by fans. If I ever get my hands on a working PSP battery, the old thing is going to get a system update, as much storage as I can manage, and all the translation patches I can fit on there.
