Before I got my first I got my first pitbull, I was weary about the breed. Afterwards owning two wonderful pitbulls, I fell in love with the breed ,they are loving and loyal dogs who want nothing more than to be around their families. The two pitbulls I owned were big cuddle bugs who thought they were lap dogs.

I got a pit bull from the shelter that was supposedly aggressive towards other animals. Her cage had a warning sign which I’m sure would’ve ruined her chances to get adopted. That dog was the nicest dog I’ve ever had. She made friends with all the strangers at the house. My long haired chihuahua on the other hand bit people’s ankles and barked nonstop. BTW that pit bull ended up living with other dogs.

If u get a pit at a young age and you socialize them and take care of them you’ll have a great dog when it’s all set and done but that’s with any dog, people just don’t know how to handle that prey drive but there are dogs bigger and stronger than pits with even more prey drive so it’s all about being an experience owner cuz their not the best 1st dogs if we are keeping it real lol 🤷🏽‍♂️😂

We have a pittie at my dog daycare who wasn’t accepted anywhere else for reasons I’m not necessarily sure. She’s funny with new people but all she ever does is bark at me, she’s never once tried to bite a person or start a fight with a dog she’s just a little vocal at times. I love her so much and she’s coming out of her shell and making new human and doggie friends. Socialize your dogs!!! It is very important.

Love the intro, couldn’t stop laughing when he started goofing around. It’s exactly like you mentioned, a lot depends on how you treat and train them. On top of that people tend to do stupid things around animals. If you hit or constantly provoke a pittie (or any dog for that matter) you shouldn’t be suprised to get it coming back at you.

When we brought our baby home from the hospital. Our 2 year old pitbull was so fascinated by our little baby. Now that our son is 17 months old. They are absolute best friends in every way. Our son loves going and picking up the pits ball/toys and throwing them. He laughs so hard while the dog is running to get the ball/toy. If I was to go grab the ball/toy, our pit loves to play tug of war! But if our son goes over our pit will softly push the toy over so our son can pick it up. Our son will go over and just lay on our pit when he is tired, and our pit does not move a muscle. To many times, I have seen pits tied up in a yard, with a broken down shelter, nasty food bowls, overgrown lawn and barely any contact with the outside world. Not surprised when they finally get loose, they run off and hurt people. Unless a dog has some type of personality/mental disorder that makes them aggressive. I think the owner is 100% responsible for how the dog acts. We have lost the idea of personal accountability in this world, and it is sad.

I don't think Pitbull is for everyone, but unfortunately, many people with lack of financial means adopt this powerful, high prey drive working dogs and failed to provide them training that cause lots of tragedies (dog fatalities statistics is pretty clear).

I agree on the most part of what you are saying other than needing money to train a pitbull. In my OPINION if an owner isn’t willing to put in the time to train their own dog or realize their dog’s personality and if their dog has a high pray drive. No amount of training from a stranger will help. If you can’t put in the time to watch and take care of a powerful dog like a pitbull or any working dog you just shouldn’t have it.
@PittBlu213
@PittBlu213 9 месяцев назад
The problem is the statistics are not clear whatsoever because the way in which the data is collected is lazy and incomplete at best. If every time a lab mix bit somebody they put it down as a lab their numbers would be completely skewed as well. Not to mention the person that classifies the dog and almost all scenarios is the news reporter who obviously is going to call the dog a pitbull to get more clicks and views. I could go on all day but it is what it is. Almost all dog trainers agree (and they don't agree on much) that pitbulls are misunderstood.

Agree entirely. Best way to deal with a dangerous pit is "who a liddle baby?!". I have a staffy and used to have a pitty and they are lovely. I have a scar from a dog bite. It was from a lab, but in defense of the lab, I had been told not to climb into his car and force my affection on him. He was an old dog and I was 3 and snuck out when my parents weren't looking. I was nearly bitten in the face by a Jack Russell terrier too.

Years ago I started watching that pitbull rescue show on animal planet and seriously considered making the trip down to New Orleans Via Lobos rescue once my old girl passes. But just before COVID an abandoned, aged, arthritic and emaciated pitbulls wandered into my life. Vet thought she was likely abandoned to die in the snow. That dog was skin and bones, and could hardly walk, but when she really wanted to she had the raw power needed to drag me. I had her for 6 months. She was a sweet wonderful dog. I decided for the sake of the dog that I couldn't adopt a pot bull because I don't have the physical strength required to restrain a pit in their prime.

I am so happy to hear your fur baby survived. We lost our Chihuahua (Einstein) in the same manner as you described. At the time, we had new neighbors who moved in (3 houses down from ours) and who owned a Pitbull mix and it got out from the gate. The Pitbull came towards my husband and began to sniff our dog which was leashed. The neighbor yelled out, he's fine...he won't hurt a fly...the same old pathetic story. I get so angry hearing the same thing from Pitbull owners and their so called lovable pets (who raised/trained them right and in loving homes). My husband was going to pick up Einstein when the Pitbull suddenly sank its teeth into the neck of our fur baby...snapped the leash and took off with our lifeless dog in its mouth. My husband chased the Pitbull down towards the neighbor's house...trying to get our dog, not realizing he was already gone. The Pitbull then turned and attacked my husband (who survived). I will never get over this tragedy and I cannot imagine if I had lost my husband in the attack. I am still haunted by the story of Kirsten Bernard and her 2 young children's death. I don't understand it, never will. How many times, of the same story, does it take for people to get it through their heads about this breed? How many more lives are going to be lost to this breed? Since Feb 2024, Pitbulls have killed 101 Americans in the last 37 months... an average of nearly three a month (ref: Animals-24-7). It makes me sick.

I've always been a large breed lover, could never tolerate tiny, yappy, snappy dogs. We had boxers growing up, and I could never deal with anything smaller than them. I was wary of Pitbull's of all kinds. I did strongly believe owners were more the problem than the actual dogs, but I still didn't have faith, I'd do any better than the next person. A year ago, a ten-week old XL Bully wandered into our lives, and I can't explain how profound a feeling it is for a huge pitbull to choose you. Her face is so soft, but you can feel the power behind every goofball hug. She's got a tail like a Great Dane haha, and tons of energy. We have to muzzle restricted breeds in public where I'm from, but she takes it all in her stride. Never ever had an issue. Amazing dog. I can honestly say, I am converted.... happily!

Yup I think it's a lot less aggression and a lot more prey drive, that being said I support the banning of pits, they can be amazing dogs but they are waaay too accessible and way to easily abused. I'd rather they are limited to professional breeders and serious owners rather than any thug or kid with 15$ to spare. They can be great dogs but they are Way too overrepresented and simultaneously under represented I think the breed needs to take a step back for some serious breed control and rebranding.

She needs something to herd or channel the energy with frisbee, fly ball or agility. BCs are off the charts with energy and don't make good pets unless the owner is super active and knows how to channel all that energy. Hiking and bicycling are also great for her. These guys basically are bred to run all day long on many acres herding. Lots of mental stimulation will also help drain her. Best of luck.

Milo tries to avoid him, which is unusual for Milo. Next thing I hear is that milo gives a warning bark, and this kid is poking him in the mouth with a dust pan. So i had to stop it and bring milo inside. The parents won't hear anything negative about their kid. So i just said that he is no longer aloud to come over or be around milo. Pitbulls are maybe the most misunderstood dogs. They are one of the most lovable family pets, but as you have said are so full of energy that very few are capable to withstand their stamina to play and run. My first time of meeting a pitbull was in 1986 in my home town when an old friend of mine brought back home his dog Bruno from the States and I was astounded by the dog's playfull and loveble character! Nowdays very good friends of mine have pitbulls and we're having a great time playing...

However i wouldn't recommend them for families with small children because the don't know their own strength and believe they are 60lb lap dogs. Early training and socialization are key

Thanks for this. Our apartment neighbors have two, and I think they probably aren't bad dogs, but they are completely untrained and poorly controlled. So much lunging, barking, growling whenever I need to pass them in the breezeway. The kids are usually the ones bringing them out of the house for walks, so I figure if something happens, I'm probably going to need to be the one to try to help the situation. But I'm a disabled lady, so this would be a challenging kind of dog to subdue in any meaningful way. So far, they've each gotten away from their people and rushed me, but thankfully I caught their heads and it's been a mooostly friendly encounter both times, but that seemed to be a choice the dogs made about two thirds of the way over to me. Thanks for the info about their face and head anatomy. I don't have a ton of experience with Pitbulls outside of these two, so that was helpful. I love big dogs, but training is so important!!!

I’ve wanted to try and own another dawg, but pit bulls are just too great of a breed. Both my daughters were brought home to different pits and both times were such an amazing experience. First daughter my dawg was twirling around in circles with excitement, told him to calm down and he sat right down wanting to see her, I lowered her down and he kept looking to me to make sure everything was okay, liked at her feet and looked that it was okay, set her in her crib and he licked the side of the crib and laid right down by the crib and didn’t move! 2nd daughter we had a 8 week old puppy and she laid right down around her head, didn’t try to lick and just stayed by the baby! At 8 weeks she already knew that was her baby and she took the best care of her for her whole life. Truly amazing animals and ESPECIALLY with kids

I just adopted my second pit mix. We lost our first pit to a very sudden illness a short time ago. I have fallen in love with how sweet and protective they are. Our new rescue took less than 48 hours to decide it was her job to protect my 6 yr old twins from everything, even from each other.

From what I have watched of your videos I think you are a good man and a great dog trainer. I recently watched your video on Dobermanns, my favorite breed and you were spot on. I have also lived with pits for 30 years and they are good dogs, not my breed, and I no longer live with them but I think you are spot on with these dogs. I do think they tend to be more prone to scrapping because terriers are more fiesty, and I can tell my dog Dobermann to step away from a potentially aggressive situation with another dog easier than any of the pits in my past. Other than that I think you were fair, funny and spot on. Thanks

I have a yard of ADBA Standard APBT. They are all on teethering set up. I have Game dogs for 15 years. They are NOT for more than 90% of dog owners. I have 7 weeks old pups kill each other. I have had yard accidents where I lost both dogs. You have to understand that they are NOT a Pack Animal. I'm not talking about the 80 KG, Blue Mastiff looking dogs. I'm talking about a 17kg athelete who do not like other Animals period. That being said, I have never seen a more versatile, clever and more loyal dogs in my life ever. You have to understand, this not a dog you take to dogpark and not expect an accident. There instincts are built for Humans not other animals. To make them get along with other dogs is not in there nature PERIOD. Once you accept that and Deal with them accordingly, you will NEVER find a better breed to own. It's in my blood. I don't eat if my dogs don't eat.

The creator has another video out abut a specific pittbull whose offspring ended up killing people. One of the offspring killed a 4 year old girl. It's genetic, because it was offspring of one particular stud. Saying "just because a pittbull does more damage" is non-sense, because the amount of damage done in a dog attack is exactly the issue. More than half of all lethal dog attacks in the US are by pittbul type breeds. The other hundreds of breeds cause less than half of lethal attacks and there was probably NEVER a lethal dog attack committed by a Chihuahua.

Just ran across your channel today. Excellent after only watching 3 videos😅. Last dog I had was a bully named Queenie… she was already an adult when we “saved” her but she was EXTREMELY friendly to everyone including my then 2yo daughter. BUT it was obvious previous owner fought her. We couldn’t take her around any dog her size or bigger. I miss ole Queenie

Not to mention that I'm just gonna start showing people this video just to show them its not just my own dogs that act like this.

I absolutely LOVE PITBULLS. My boy is a Boxer Staffordshire mix, full of energy, does absolutely beautiful with all dogs. But, I'll admit, I do tend to get leery when I see another Pittie, ONLY because I don't know how the owner treats their pup or if they had proper socialization, luckily, I've been proven wrong thus far. It's not the breed of the dog that makes me cautious it's the owner and how the pup was raised.
@mikefrost1312
@mikefrost1312 Год назад
How a dogs raised doesn't always mean anything.. REAL pitbulls, American "pitbull" terriers, were created & bred to be aggressive towards other dogs & animals.. Genetics absolutely matter ! And you can't train, socialize or love genetic instincts out of a dog! I love pitbulls & have had them my whole life.. But, I also know ANY of them, at any point, can decide they don't want to be around other dogs. I've had plenty that lived their entire lives with other dogs & did absolutely fine ! But, have also had others that were raised indoors, socialized daily, trained, and still matured & couldn't be around other dogs anymore. Didn't make them bad dogs & 100% wasn't because of how they were raised
@thormenucci
@thormenucci Год назад
@@mikefrost1312 That really depends on which type of dog they're met and socialize with, if you had a pit raised with submissive dogs he probably will do fine, but if he Mets another dominant dog at the house or at a dog park shit can go pretty bad quickly and once they fight it's over, he will start to get more aggressive with other dogs, it´s really pissing me off people talking about pitbull without having a real traditional pitbull, only the mixed and modern ones. it´s an amazing breed with great hunting drive and gameness but they are not social dogs by any means and it´s not for anyone of course
@mikefrost1312
@mikefrost1312 Год назад
@@thormenucci nope. I've raised APBT my entire life, literally.. Doesn't matter if another dog is friendly, submissive or any of that. If they don't like other dogs, they'll go after it ! EVERY dog I raise indoors is 100% friendly, non aggressive with dogs and back down from fights. When the pits go after them, they don't fight back, they don't "challenge" the Pitbulls AT ALL. The pits just go... It's in their DNA. Again, not EVERY ONE will be that way. I've also had dozens of pits that loved every dog they met.. some ppl just can't accept that real pitbulls, are a fighting breed & genetics matter more than "how a dogs raised"
@thormenucci
@thormenucci Год назад
@@mikefrost1312 Well i never saw an socialized pit attacking other dogs unless it Was provoked first or after they had their first serious fight, but The problem its that even if your pit its socialized if he have contact with another dominant dog they will fight eventually
@mikefrost1312
@mikefrost1312 Год назад
@@thormenucci because the dogs you've seen were just good dogs ! I've had pits that wouldn't even fight back if another dog attacked & have had pits that would go after anything on 4legs just because they could see it .. Even some of my pits that grew up with peaceful, friendly, old dogs and got along with everyone, still woke up one day & just couldn't be around the other dogs anymore.. no other dogs did anything to them, nothing changed, the dog just matured & it's genetics took over. Yes, sometimes you can work with the dog & bring them out of it again, but not always.. The bloodlines matter too

Of all my dogs a french bulldog had the worst prey drive, I had to work hard to keep her from killing our chickens. I did teach her to kill grasshoppers in my garden, grasshoppers are a real nuisance in the garden and very hard to see, she was amazing and finding and destroying them. I used to call her if I found one and she'd bolt out of the house like a K-9 out of the back of a cop car during a chase 😁 she was the best, I miss that girl.

As a child i was attacked by a jack russell (nearly 15 yrs later i still have the scar) and i had a lot of aggressive small dogs. The moment i got my first pit after research and prep, i brought my sweet girl home. She was terrified of my bearded dragon and little kitten, but absolutely adored the children of my appartment. I always educate those willing to approach us and let them give her a treat to learn that pits aren't as what media portrays. 💚 Of a lot of the dogs I've trained(im not a professional its my own personal dogs) from pit to Chihuahua i adore the pit the most!

However, he absolutely adores kids. Any and all of them. Loyal beyond what words can describe. Yet cats and rats are enemies for life, bunnies = snacks, so walks can be challenging. Still won’t trade him for all treasures in the world)

Fostered a brindle APBT from a local rescue. We ended up adopting him. He loves everybody. He shows no dog aggression, He was raised with 3 other dogs without any dominance issues. He was properly socialized and trained as a pup. Have had no aggression or dominance issues at all.
