I’m convinced America already collapsed years ago and is being artificially help up through monetary and military
@dwes49

@fuckyoutubepolicy staff You’re completely right and I agree. But I still stand by statement. A country that has increasing political polarization and reoccurring financial crises, resulting in artificial pumping of currency isn’t in as much of a healthy position as you might think. Standard of living will eventually be affected by the inevitable inflation which will occur gradually over the next few years (also to point out americas living standards are no different to any current developed nation - I would even challenge that it’s worse in some aspects). As for geopolitical influence and future economic outlook, not even 20 years China will likely overtake.

@fuckyoutubepolicy staff dude when you make a claim, don't make up data and follow what you hear....China has huge corporate debt but not huge government debt....the United States and Japan have huge government debt....USA has immense debt but the only reason it did not collapse completely is due to the dollar but even that won't last long...the world is slowly shifting away and America no longer has a competitive edge like before....there are many countries that are technically capable now and have strong armies and can manufacture many products...the US can't fight china and Russia and Iran and turkey....game over

@fuckyoutubepolicy staff Fertility rate at 1.64, mass debt, both student loan and government, fyi, China's debt-to-gdp ratio is around just 70%, Japan is steep in debt though. Then there's the lowering life expectancy, high suicide rate; 30,000 veterans have killed themselves since the war on terror began, far higher than the death rate in both wars. Yeah, America is still here, just like Greece, Egypt, and Great Britain, and just like them, it's in a declining state.

Food and energy have actually declined in price when adjusted for inflation over time. This year is a major exception but historically it has been the case. Housing has increased but that's largely a consequence in people buying larger and larger sized homes and plots. The price per sqft hasn't sharply risen its more that the size of properties have doubled on average and thus the cost has doubled as well.

Most people my age (36) can't afford a home if there are even any for sale. Everyone is swimming in debt. We are capitalism run amok with a military budget easily twice what it should be. It was American industry and capitalism that made China what it is.....and continues to do so. The Capitalists that sold out American industry over the past 40 years have always had the single goal of increasing their own personal wealth. The decline of US industry and it's middle class is a direct result of the greed of it's capitalist leaders. The military-industrial complex, which is but one branch of capitalist expansion has had an outsize influence on the decline of the USA. Endless war has been very very profitable for the few, while death and destruction of innocent lives (including the primarily middle-class enlistees) was just collateral in their pursuit of wealth for the few.

nteresting how 2% inflation has been a concern when central banks and the Fed begin to hike interest rates. I consider the rising interest rate to be a very serious issue since it will undoubtedly cause more investors to withdraw their money from the stock market. This may have worked when I was only using a few thousand dollars to invest, but it is more challenging to decide to withdraw more than $365,000 from my account at this point. You arent wrong but the timescale can be swift or take centuries. You can also have a decline like in the British empire where the main consequences were not for the average Britain but for the rest of the world. This seems more likely for the U.S. It main economic and security advantages are rooted in the western hemisphere so the average U.S citizen will probably be fine though maybe less wealthy. Places like South Korea, Eastern Europe, and other places that rely on the U.S to prevent conflict will suffer more.

The perception here on Brazil, specially on financial world where i work, is that yes, USA is on decline since 2007, slowly but steadily from 2007 to 2019, despite the financial boom (after 2014), mostly from buy backs from easy credit, not real investment. Than way faster than predicted because the pandemic, and now specially because the global energy prices, bad infrastructure (i never thought i would say that btw), and low global recovery, not to mention social and political problems on some states like California. The general view here is that USA cannot do anything more to change its course, and the future is on Asia. on 2007 Brazil exports where 17,4% to USA, our greatest partner, today USA represents less than 12% and China is the greatest with 33% almost the double that America had on its peak with us, not to mention that BRICS was formed and initially ignored by most americans. Now when an American delegation comes here noone cares too much, but when it is chinese they have a red carpet all around, and lines waiting for them, and the americans are surprised with that and why the whole Latin America now is leaning to China, and BRICS have a toon of political weight here.

Thing I notice with USA decline stems from a problem, finding a short term solution which leads to problem with another problem. Culturally, America does not think of the future anymore only in the now. While the USA spent 20 years adventuring in Afghanistan through the mountain regions, the people were taxed heavily and starving. Our decline started 100 years ago when the Federal government got bigger and bigger and we no longer followed the constitution. Our decline started with Teddy Roosevelt. It was just we were so far ahead of the rest of the world it took nearly a century for the rest of the world to catch up. I would say the pivotal point happened in the 1990's under Clinton. Once we were in the Clinton administration, that was the point of no return. Anyone that thinks our best years are not behind us is just delusional. We do not lead in even a single industry. We trail in everything today. Our educational system is a joke. Our math scores (by far the most important subject) are abysmal. Name the industry and we trail. For the first time in over 140 years, we are no longer the richest country, China surpassed us last year. The country is just too divided, and the left has destroyed us. We forgot the things that made us a great country. Individual freedom, and not the collective. Individual achievement and not government subsidiaries. Were we perfect years ago? No of course not. I'm black, but I still say we were a great country. Government intervention, in the economy, educational, regulations, destroyed us, and we are just too far gone to turn it around. .

@@MichaelDavis-mk4me Hmmm.... My replies to you seen to have been deleted. Basically, there are plenty of people who think that the USA has already declined to the point of no longer being a developed nation and a quick Google search will give you hits about the UN saying that poverty in Alabama is akin to what one sees in the 3rd world and unlike anything they had seen in any supposedly developed country. Then we have childhood poverty, infant mortality, mass incarceration, where the US distinguishes itself by failing its citizens. The educational system has obviously failed as we can see from all the people believing wild conspiracy theories and trickle down economics whilst electing climate change deniers and taking unapproved medications rather than get vaccinated. Infrastructure... Well, it is falling apart. Corruption... With campaign contributions and lobbying, the US is very much akin to a 3rd world nation when it comes to this. Then we have the inability to hold elections and the flawed system of democracy that has now failed in fairly obvious ways (also tied to widespread voter ignorance). Even those who wish to inform themselves have a hard time as media bias is significant in the USA. As for power... The USA, much like the Soviet Union and North Korea, prioritizes its military over the well-being of its citizens. Oh yes, there are plenty of reasons to consider the US having fallen out of the 'top tier' even though the total wealth and the military might is still at the top. Do Google it and you will quickly find articles on the ways in which the US does not meet the criteria for a 'developed nation'.

The nation’s infrastructure is collapsing. The federal deficit is soaring. The health system is deteriorating ( tested by Covid 19). The cities are unsafe. The schools are failing. The gap between rich and poor is widening. The social fabric is broken (The nation is divided) The steady decline in American student aptitude (ranked 29 in maths & 26 in physics in the world ) America is falling behind in technological advances. Academic standards are lowering. Increased lawlessness. Crippling national debt. Energy dependency. Continued US intervention in other countries internal affairs made the USA the most hated country on earth (hence lost hegemony ) Just look at Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Afganistan, Venezuela, DRC, etc... ( USA is actually a threat to global peace and security) and its no longer seen as a model. Massive lack of trust in the US media ( almost all of the US media and Hollywood are propaganda tool for the owners ( the billionaires ) They report "real Fake News " Including The economist and millions of people around the world are going away from the mainstream media ( Specially from CNN, BBC, CNBC, FOX, Aljezeera, The Guardian, NYT, WashingtonPost, and if you ask me which one is the worst definitely CNN ( the real fake news networks) You have no idea how much i hate them, they literally fabricated news and report it) Bottom line, the fact that you're talking about USA's decline, is a sign itself because you wouldn't raise this issue unless people are talking about it and if people keep talking about it, they're seeing the signs no matter what you do and even this video doesn't talk about the real issue to match the title " is America in decline? The classical role of government is to tax away economic rents and use it to lower the cost of production. This is done through subsidies for such things as public infrastructure, education, and health care, not raising the prices through monopolistic privatization. The problem with economics as it is understood in America, is that there is no distinction between wealth production and wealth extraction. Production of goods and services speaks for itself, but monopolies and the banks (FIRE, finance, insurance, and real estate) extract what is called economic rent. The free market Adam Smith talked about is free FROM economic rent, not free FOR economic rent. American democracy is entirely theatrical with the majority will having no effect on policy. If the US was a democracy, we would have a decent minimum wage, public health care, free education, parental leave, and gun control, to name a few, all by popular demand.

America is in decline! Infrastructure obsolete, drug problem, high crime, housing and ghettos. The problem lies with the government and the people themselves. Compared to Asia, moral upbringing is missing, no respect for family, law and society. Emphasis is not on education and family values. The government is wasting money on massive military programs and armaments. Why do we need over 150 military bases overseas? Money should be spent at home. Extremism abounds and is confused with freedom of speech. US may be beyond help.

We are the cause of our own decline. Considering America just became a superpower in the early 20th century, we have declined pretty rapidly compared to Ancient Rome which was a global power for about 1000 years, and even Ancient Egypt which was a global power for 30 centuries. America has failed to lead globally and has often portrayed the opposite of what it preaches internally and domestically. We have failed in educating our populaces, with the average American being happy to possess just a high school diploma. We have failed in STEM, failed to deal with inequities such as discrimination, racism, homelessness, and violence, etc etc. How will we be venerated globally when we caused so much distruction around the world? Both are very possible. The EU could be made to be dismantled. We could collapse china. We could gamble at driving the world into a economic downward spiral. The U.S. has many options, including wrecking opec. People just have no idea what the U.S, would do. But if it wanted to maintain global dominance i have thought out plenty of methods for that. But it would be heavily destructive. Too say "the U.S. is in decline" i agree with, looking at it from the current paradigm. To say " the U.S. is in decline and cant stop it" . The truth is America has been declining since the 1960s. Every decade gets worse than the last. When I was growing up in the 1970s and early 1980s, the US was number one in most things, the standard of living, industry, technology, etc. I can remember when it loaned money to the rest of the world. It's none of those things now. Third world immigration has destroyed its national identity, culture, history and cohesiveness. Throw in the demographic change and large numbers of Americans moving overseas.
@w0mblemania
@w0mblemania 2 года назад
It would be very unwise to believe that the US is in terminal decline. The US has many problems, but here's the thing that may have been lost on younger commenters: the US has ALWAYS had major problems. Think of any time in US history, going back to pre-European colonisation. Was there ever a golden, stress-free time where America didn't face huge problems? Answer: no. Every generation has its problems. OUR problems seem insurmountable to some people, especially younger people who may not have a more seasoned view of the world, but history shows time and again that America has endured through challenges that dwarf our current issues. Do you REALLY believe America is in a worse position now than at Pearl Harbor? Or that life is more stressful now than during the cold war in the '50s, where so many millions of Americans (and Westerners in general) believed they would die in a nuclear fireball? Does that mean America will always endure? No. Nothing lasts forever. But it would unwise to write America off. Context and a sense of history is required. And do keep in mind that much of the "America is doomed" commentary comes from vested interests that seek to undermine America in the world. That's the CCP, Russia and even extreme voices in the US.
@DavidCelestialKnight
@DavidCelestialKnight 2 года назад
The main problem of the US is its bad reputation. The people think Germany, Russia, France, or China are better than America, but that is not true, they have many problems and their citizens face poverty, drugs, demographics problems, like low natality, suicides, abortions, etc.
@w0mblemania
@w0mblemania 2 года назад
@@DavidCelestialKnight You do have to wonder about anyone who thinks Russia or China are better than the US. Certainly, Western Europeans think they're doing a lot better than the US, and not without some justification. And it must be said that many aspects of the US are a total mess, and on the verge of breakdown. But, as Leonard Cohen said, America is the cradle of the best and worst. Unlike China or Russia, it has the machinery for change.

@geosync9742
@geosync9742 2 года назад
Yep. We're talking about severe internal culture battles that can't be compared to foreign attack or threat of one. In fact one can argue Pearl Harbor and the CW galvanized us against a common enemy, which is the exact opposite of what we are today.
@w0mblemania
@w0mblemania 2 года назад
@@geosync9742 I would argue that these things did galvanize the US in to (military and political) action, but they didn't necessarily _unite_ Americans. At the time of JFK, there were huge divisions in US society, yet the cold war was in full swing, and playing out across Europe, Indochina, etc. I think we need to understand that the US can be a very divided nation, politically, yet still stand, and even prosper. Example: look at the rise of the US after Vietnam, a hugely contentious and divisive war. After Vietnam the US effectively won the cold war with Russia (for now) and became _the_ world power (for now). Example 2: look at the rise of the US as a world power after the Civil War. The divisions continued, but the vast, overwhelming majority of Americans went about their lives, and the country grew enormously in to the the hegemony it is today. I strongly suspect that most of the "America is doomed" talk comes from a small minority of people: extremists on Twitter, the media in general, "journalists" (which is a polite way of saying "someone who is paid to have an opinion"), and America's opponents and adversaries. America is not in a great place. But is it terminal? Well, it's been in a far, far worse situation and prevailed. The thing about America is that most Americans *want* it to succeed. Just look at the recovery after Covid... that's self-interest at work. Almost everyone wants America to work. But the extreme voices shout loudest...
