"When it's louder you THINK it sounds better!" This is why other people aren't doing the auto gain compensation. To fool people. Gain staging be damned.
@@G.GordonMidi DSP developers. For example, Softube didn't include auto gain compensation in Tape because it wouldn't have been accurate. The recent update to HG-2 also doesn't have it, though Brainworx compromised by letting you hold shift to adjust the gain and output knobs simultaneously. However, it's still not quite accurate, so it's not automatic.
@@G.GordonMidi You're lying. I didn't say it isn't possible. I said that many times, it's not possible to do it accurately, depending on the processing.
Analog Obsession deserves all the love. I love his plugins and always been using them. Best Free Analog Emulation out there. The ones that I always use is the SSQ which is am emulation of SSL 4000 EQ , LALA which is an emulation of LA2A and SweetVox that is very great for vocals
I noticed the quality and function of this plug excited you so much, you forgot about about the thing that seemed to bother you, the Shadow. Lol... Keep Pushing out this GREAT content !! Thank you !!
Hi guys, just in case you are interested: There is another plugin in the pipeline, and it emulates a real vintage gem. A German broadcast EQ cassette in Danner format. I don't want to tell more for now... I'm just so glad Tunca is making this one. I love German broadcast cassettes, they are awesome. I think Wytse would agree ;-)
Having tried some of his plugins myself a can say that these plugins are absolute gifts from heaven. I really like the sound and it is basically impossible to destroy a signal when working with them. Even on extreme settings it still sounds nice. The only downside to this is that these aren't avilable in .aax format. Since i like to mix and master in ProTools, i can not use these plugins there. I'd have to use some kind of aax-wrapper plugin to be able to use them and i find that to be always a bit more complicated.
I really appreciate the fact he's not here for the money. He's just passionate about music, analog gear and programming, share it to the world, and gently ask donation so he can live of his passion. Such a nice guy, he gives first, and let the people who loves his work to pay him a bit for it. Love this kind of attitude, and I think this is way smarter than marketing shit. If you make good products, just let it speaks by itself, no need for 4 pages of marketing content before downloading anything. (hi slate, hi waves...)
I have been watching and waiting for you to review a plugin that finally ticks all the box's for you! And finally it's here! Your frustration over gain compensation I share with you, it's been driving me crazy for years. So glad to see your reaction 😁👊🏻 I will downloading those today and donating. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Lindell offers gain matching when engaging the preamp section of their Neve clone as well. You can turn the gain matching on/off as well. What I like about the AO version, is that it got rid of the concentric pots that drive me bonkers when trying to easily adjust settings. Having two adjustments in the same space is just terrible for me. But here's the thing... if you're a plug-in developer... it's OKAY to build your plug-ins in a way that offers alternative GUIs. Yes, giving users alternative layouts and even the ability to redesign the layout (if they have the coding skills) is a BIG DEAL.
great!! Thanks for giving credits to supporting people who is not only using free plugins but also pay some money to the people that are doing the job!
Rıdvan is actually updating his plugins quite frequently! I'm glad you reviewed his plugins and I am looking forward to the comparison to the original hardware! Keep it coming! 😀
AO is cool!!! Yes.. he's a genius 😜 He recently put out "PreBox"... great preamp selections... 11 different choices in one box!! Can't beat that!! Lots of useful choices in it, too. Some common, some rare.
Impressive stuff. Cool review. You really seem to like to support him :) Cool concept. I think the big ones have to re-think many things by now as indie devs have gotten so good those days. Cheers
Of course it is... sometimes, depending on the day, weather, sea level and moon phase but that's all. Like all Waves plugins ! They really sound great on Fridays.
The thing about gain compensation inside an EQ is also on TDR SlickEQ and Fuse Audio Labs RS-W2395C, but those plugins are about sutble saturation so it's not the same. I hope more devs do the same, mostly Softube inside their free Saturation Knob, which doesn't even have an output knob.
Hey, I watched this vid the second time, and as fas as I can recall the Neve 1073 VMR module from Slate also compensated the gain automatically, but Analog Obsession is a brand deserivng the credits
Holy shit... I'm excited now... cause I've been kinda waiting to hear his thoughts on them. Let's do this... Edit: shit... I wasn't expecting him to like it all that much. But yeah, I definitely have a place in my heart for plugins from Analog Obsession. They're honestly some of my favorite plugins to mess around and have fun with. I use some of those plugins along with my little 8 board and it creates a lot of magic. Glad to see you enjoyed at least one of his plugins. :))
@@costinvaly1 the GUI honestly has nothing to do with it. For all that I could buy all my products from Waves (I have some that I like) or Slate or any of the other big named companies. I've been into analog emulation for a while. I've read about his shady business practices, and stuggles. I'm well aware, and it went on for a while, but he couldn't run forever. Eventually, the backlash caught up with him, so.. he changed his whole brand. He releases all his stuff free on Patreon, and on top of that, he did change some of the ways these old plugins sounded. A lot of the bad stuff you talk about was from over a year or two ago. While I've only and used them for about a year now, I did my research, looked at multiple reviews, etc. Including KVR and Gearslutz. If you look in the latter pages of both of the forums, they appreciate his growth. Matter of fact, I come on here because the same thing you complain about, White Sea usually complains about. It took me a LONG time to get my head out of the "glamour gutter" and started lookong at plugins for how they are. At this point, you're either holding a grudge, you're not really into plugin development or "sound" as much as you claim, or hey, maybe you know something that I don't. Maybe I missed something. *shrugs* why don't you make a video discussing the flaws you found in Analog Obsession. Maybe I'll watch it. But until then, loosen that clench you have on your teeth, and in your hand. Stop hatin.
@@costinvaly1 okay so I checked on Plugin Doctor... ayo m'duud, you're kinda missing out on some good plugins here... there's about 8 EQ plugins that I have used before that I've tested, all current versions and uh... there's quite a bit of decent harmonics on them. I tried about 5 compressors, and there's a decent amount of harmonics on them.... I've tried 4 preamps... decent harmonics, I've tried 2 distortion plugins, decent harmonics... nothing about Analog Obsession seems out of whack to me. Now am I going to promise you that all of these harmonics are shooting above -25db? Absolutely not... because I don't think they're supposed to personally... each of these are supposed to have a certain character to them, which according to the harmonic analyzer... they do... so I'm gonna trust my gut here and stick with em. * *shrugs* * but I thank you for making me check this shit for myself. Cause there's some free plugins that blew me away at how much harmonic distortion was in them. Immout. * *throws up peace sign* *
@@costinvaly1 oh I don't use FETISH. Never really liked it. It was confusing when it was first made and it still is now. Also, it doesn't really have the character I'm looking for. I like VariMoon and SPECOMP from Analog Obsession though, used it on a master and on some drums. Shit worked great. But just because I like a bit of the developer's work, doesn't mean I'm gonna worship all their products. If it's some bullshit, I don't use it. I'm not gonna pretend I'm a plugin developer either, but I have been doing little studies on things. By ear and on paper, and this channel helped with that. Cause for a while I used to hate on duud... thinking that he was just an analog prude, but when I bought my analog mixer for the first time... I saw what he was saying.
@@costinvaly1 also... another thing to add... that's the old version of that plugin... I've tried the new version... and eh, I still don't like it as much as the other things he had to offer.
I use Analog Obsession Plugins and I really like them. Just recently Waves has an offer of their CLA Bundle. Several Plugins are similar. Since a while I am wondering if a comparison. As you “like” Waves Plugins I wondering what you mean about them in comparison. Especially the Optical and FET Compressors. As well the Pultec Emulation Rare. I guess many of your followers would like to see it. I would love it. Greetings from Switzerland
I used to work for an interface company that makes plugins too... I have tried to explain this, I have fought for this. People are idiots. It's not audio people taking the decisions, it's sales and marketing people who do so....
Analog Obsession is THE TREND that makes me run as soon as possible to get all their new changes. Maybe their plugins are not the best ever, but they sound really good and they deliver what they say...
I know slate and arturia both do automatic gain compensation with their neve style mic pre saturation. I wish all companies did this with everyone of their plugins but sadly that’s not the case.
Im confused what I just saw u demo these on? Is this the master insert? Ur using a pre to color and the limiter / compressor to glue the vocals and beat together?
Comment unrelated, but do an in depth on the new black box MS, been havin much fun last couple of days, and would like to hear your take on it sir, cheers
It look like great plugins! If you have time to test another ones from analog obsessions, it would be so cool! Anawya, thanks a lot for this védio, this plug sound a million miles greater than the one i bought from sl... di....l
lol, almost had a mental breakdown there with the gain compensation. I wished companies at least had a button to link gain and volume in their plugins.
i have tried the britpressor but there seems no way of turning off the limiter, even with the limiter dial all the way clockwise it's squashing music on my master bus! perhaps it doesn't play nice with Reason 10, anyone have same issues?
what about cpu usage on 96 kz? whats your opinion on that? have you tested? ... on my system i cant use even one of A.O plugs win10, I74820k 16gb ram studio one 5.......
