just for context, “asylum” back then didn’t necessarily mean a mental health facility. an “orphan’s asylum” was just another way of saying orphanage

It doesn't mean it only to this day aswell, but people tend to think of the negative connotations often first.

Yeah, asylum really just means a place of refuge/safety. So, an "orphan's asylum" is a refuge for orphans, and an "insane asylum" is a refuge for "insane" people. It's just that the latter became the most common usage of the word, and so people didn't learn the actual definition and instead inferred the definition based on how "insane asylums" were represented.

This show takes place in Canada during the 1890s! I love it so so much (it’s based on a very long book series and it’s a crime that it was cancelled after so few seasons). Hope you love it too!

Is it worth reading? I heard G. Blythe doesn’t start being more friendship etc. with and until like 5th book and idk I only like parts with Blythe nowadays lol

@@lilybethkuhn9650 that's only sort of true. the shirbert friends-to-lovers arc starts from the very first book. some of the things that this show kinda brushes over (like anne acting out that book with her friends in the boat) are much bigger moments that hint at their romance. their romance plays out starting in books 2 and 3. the reason you might've heard about "book 5" is because the publishing order is different from chronological order. so anne of windy poplars, which i'm referring to as book 3, is technically the fifth to be published.

@@lilybethkuhn9650 the series is reallyyyy good i would definitely recommend the show definitely diverges from some of the plot points so don't be shocked but it's honestly great, and very readable, so it's not too wordy and it's quite easy to follow the language

this show is so good! dw it has romance, friendship and a lot of cute cute moments. every season is amazing, in the 3rd and last season Anne is a teenager and the show has a lot more romance etccc

I watched each season in a day and it was one of the best things that I've seen. The whole aesthetic of the show was so splendid that at times my eyes were getting watery just because of it. I liked how Anne's character developed throughout the whole series and how that affected on others as well. Of course different people have different preferences but I do hope that you'll like it and we will go through this journey together as well 💗

The 2017-2019 TV series Anne with an E takes place in the late 19th century, specifically in 1896. The story follows Anne, a 13-year-old orphan who is mistakenly sent to live with the elderly siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on their ancestral farm, Green Gables, on Prince Edward Island. Anne's arrival transforms the lives of the Cuthberts and the small town. What century is Anne with an E set in? 19th century The adventures of a young orphan girl living in the late 19th century. L.M. Montgomery began her depiction of Anne by setting her story in the 1880's, deliberately using her own childhood as the backdrop against which her heroine's story could unfold so she could easily mirror her early years growing up on Prince Edward Island at the end of the Victorian Era.

oh my god i'm so glad you decided to react to this show i honeslty love it .. truth be told i find this show before was became a "thing" if i can say didn't expect much from it i was bored... i finished the whole season (s1) in less than 2 days .. that was a different show that all the popular stuff that i didn't like like Riverdale or Casa De Papel or whatever .. and i really really loved it .. so i hope you will too

anne with an e is literally the best show. i love this story so much and this show has helped me through some very difficult times. last summer I directed a play based on this story in summer camp and it was dream come true. i think i need this now more than ever. i'm so glad you got to this show. have a wonderful time!

Some things for you to know: this show takes place in the early 1900s (the book was published in 1908) and the reason Anne hates her hair so much is because in the late 1800s and evidently the early 1900s, red hair was very much hated. The book is quite different from the show, so I personally enjoy them separately as they both have their good parts. I'm so excited for this reaction!!!

Marilla wants a boy to help Matthew with the farm work because she is worried about Matthew's health. In his obituary, Stompin Tom Connors was described as a male Anne of Green Gables. Orphans were treated as free labour back then.

I love Anne with an E 😭 I have all the books Anne of Green Gables. The books tell her story as a kid to an adult. I was obsessed with the cartoon show when I was a kid. It holds a special place in my heart 🥺💕 it’s a wholesome show yet touches deep and serious topics.

Yaaaaaasssssss let's freaking goooooo! ❤️😍😭😍❤️ Jesly, I know you like to read the books that go with the shows, so just know, while most fans consider this a beloved adaptation of the Anne of Green Gables books, the show does tell a lot of its own unique stories, too, with many amazing new side characters that aren't in the books. And that's a wonderful thing because it means that, unlike a lot of other fandoms, you are less likely to get book-spoilers since people don't feel the need to constantly compare and contrast the two. ☺️🙏❤️ As a 39 year old Canadian (soon to be 40, eek 😅) I grew up with this franchise because the books are classics here and a lot of people (especially AFAB people) read them as kids. There were a couple of tv movies made of it when I was growing up too. I loved the movies at the time, but I love the show much more 🥰😍🥰 And in 2018, my kids even got to go with my mother-in-law on a trip to Prince Edward Island (where it takes place) and see Green Gables (which is basically a museum/tribute to the Anne stories) they brought T-shirts back with them that were dyed using the red soil they have there 😂❤️💕 So excited for this journey! I can't wait to see who your favourite characters will be!
