Is Antstream Arcade For Xbox Worth It? 

Good review. Yeah, I've been really enjoying Antstream on the Xbox. I can understand some people are frustrated since they haven't yet made it so your account can go across platforms or that the lifetime pass is only on Xbox but it's a great service. When I'm just looking for something quick I can always play through a few challenges and have a blast and it's been really fun getting to experience games from the C64 and Amiga that I never played as a kid (or even heard of). I also like the newer indie retro style games like Metal Dragon and coming soon, Demons of Asteborg. They also recently previewed that they're updating to a new screen select with more options to make it easier to find and tag games you're interested in as well as a button mapping feature that will really help some games. It's great stuff!

The million-dollar question: Can I challenge friends and strangers online in head-to-head or co op gameplay? Or is it just you versus the computer and you versus local friends? That would be the one thing that would seal the deal for me.

The social aspects, for me, are what separate things like Antstream and Capcom Arcade Stadium from emulation solutions like RetroPie. Arcades, at their core, were spaces to socialize. It sucks that none of these services offer online multiplayer (I'm curious why Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle has it but Stadium doesn't). At least you can compete for high scores, I guess?

Cool video idea, however, I would love to see a Fortnite crossover event with Nintendo, sort of a theory video where you express your ideas on what that could look like. I think this would be cool considering they added Peter Griffin to Fortnite. P.S. My dog is Gray Hound and his name is also Frank!

Nice video. Manic (not Maniac) Miner is a pretty famous game here in the UK and Europe. It was ported to other platforms but started life as a seminal title on the little Sinclair ZX Spectrum, which was a hugely popular home computer here 🙂

i have retroarch in dev mode dont get me wrong antstream is cool but i have over 10,000 retro games in dev mode from ps1,ps2,gamecube,wii,snes, windows 98 pc games and more also has netplay where i can play online with xbox or pc player

it's what it is but the control delay is absolutely horrendous. I tried playing Manic Miner and I know this game and it's timing impeccably but it very slow at registering control actions. Tried now in two alternative location at friends and while I applaud what this is doing, it's pretty rough. Not to mention the amount of games that are disappearing thanks to a lack of license I guess

I just wish antstream could let you see what's there before purchasing. Like there's no point to spend 70 euro if I'm just gonna play bubble bobble

How do u get coop to work both controllers only work for olayer one

Are the Arcade versions of Robocop, Indiana jones temple of doom, Chase Hq, Vigilante and Turbo Outrun on there? And do u need an Internet connection to be able to play them?

I think to get the lifetime subscription but my worries is the latency if it's to big what a waste of money why can't we just download the games that's we want

To add to that review : 1400 titles includes 3 (for example) of the same title across 3 platforms. Mortal Kombat now removed. Interface for Xbox is extremely laggy and even fails to load posters sometimes. 12 month license not available in many countries. Bandai Namco games were advertised but missing for many months (now resolved).

Maybe or not . I notice major havoc runs slow on Anstream Arcade vs the Atari 50 version where it ran smoothly with dip switches

I am going to get the one year version as a way to try it out and if I like what I get then I will get the lifetime membership.

if antstream had more ps1 and n64 games. id be happier with buying it. is it worth it? i mean for the amount of games your getting its hard to say no. but personally i just wouldnt be interested in most of them. so for me id give it a miss

Not for me. Much prefer the MiSTer. Games are lag free too compared to antstream.

So now the WB games like Mortal Kombat are no longer available. That suck. 😢 Now my only option to play the original MK is my copy of MK Deception on the original Xbox! And I'm not sure if that game is Backwards Compatible!

The question of is it worth it is difficult, Antstream is great for discovering games that you've not played before, but it isn't fault free. The quality of graphics and sound that you get out of it isn't bad but it is notisably not as good compared to running the same games locally either on original hardware or emulation. That's not to mention the slight latency as well as the occasional dropouts. My main pet peeve though is that the lifetime subscription is only for the Xbox version and not the others. This makes no sense for a streaming service! So on that front it is pretty poor value compared to the PC version given that you will always have a PC, but Xboxes are kind of temporary things to play a handful of exclusive games or to access Game Pass affordably.
