I think a big factor that helps me recognize some artists like Loish AND you is shape design. Also, color/contrast choices. Like even when you want something to be softer, your stuff tends to have a certain warmth. I agree it evolves the more we explore and experiment, but in regards to whether or not you have a style...well I can recognize your work as your own.
I think you absolutely have a style. I could identify a lot of your work. The colors that you use, the way that you draw and paint things. It’s very again I say Norman Rockwellish Of 2020 though love that about your work.
I don't understand why they stick to one style. When I find myself getting curious about so many styles. I feel like I need to try this one, that one, and all that interest me. Which I really enjoy. Now I find out you agree too that sticking one is creative murder!! That's so true
I totally understand feeling down about your work when you feel like you don't have a style, especially when you've been on your creative journey for a few years. But you are NEVER a lesser artist!! Just keep creating, and try to find joy in your art. 💛💛💛

I tell people I’m a process based, intuitive hobby artist. Which just means I do whatever I want, I’m not terribly concerned with the outcome, and I have no desire to make a career out of it. 😂 I’m AuDHD, and I’ve said that my art making is sometimes more of a stim that anything else. It just feels good to push paint around paper, shade with pencils or making marks with various pens and markers.
I love that!! Creating from intuition is so meditative and fulfilling. 💛 That's so interesting that you find art to be a stim for your ADHD! I've found sometimes that sketching while I talk to people or listen to a podcast helps me to stay more focused on the conversation (weird, I know, but surprisingly it works for me!)
@@allisonaletha Oh I’m the same way, I have to either take notes or doodle to really pay attention to something. It’s funny bec. I was briefly a preschool teachers aide in the early 2000s, so before fidget toys were really a big thing, but even then we realized that some kids had to have something to do with their hands to focus. Back then we’d just have them grab a small toy or plush to hold on to or fiddle with. I think we referred to them as tactile learners, that way we could talk about it to parents the same way we’d talk about visual or auditory learning styles, which is that they learn better when certain conditions are met. Framing it that way made parents more likely to accept it as a part of how their child learns, rather than view it as deficit, or worse, as bad behavior. Anyway, my point is that I think it’s a lot more common to need certain conditions to focus than people realize.

I'm so, so glad you enjoyed my video! Finding a niche may work for some artists, but I agree, I enjoy art so much more when I simply explore and create for the joy of it without worrying to much about finding a niche. And I'm so glad you like the dandelions!! I had so much fun painting them 💛

I hate to admit it but to me i think art style is sort of important because i have characters that i create that i love if i can stick to one consistent style so i can draw them with same look same style but of course different sort of face expressions , it’s challenging, I’m training myself to not really focus on the art style and just enjoy creating, it’s hard sometimes but i think that’s the only way for me to understand 😢❤ i love your art , always inspiring ❤

I think it's good that you are using so many different mediums for your art. And you still have a style that comes naturally the more you progress. I think it's important to stay true to ones own creativity and if that means not fitting certain social media demands or into a niche, that's totally okay. Just like others have said, yours can be seen wit the colors. I specifically notice how you play with the greens and the browns, and how majority of your works are in that color pallete. Also noticeable is that overall warmth of the colors used and the calm scene of the painting. That's why I think even if you have different technique in painting, mediums etc. It is still remarkably you. Your work is so cozy! I love it sm
Your art is great! I keep thinking while I watch your gouache painting process that you would possibly prefer to use watercolors for most of the painting process and then just go over it with gouache in the small areas that you want to lighten. You already are essentially using the gouache like watercolor paints! You may be surprised how much nicer the texture of the watercolors are for your style of painting (especially on the highly textured paper you use). Watercolor paints are just sooooooooooooo much easier to use for wet-on-wet and for smooth blends. You can also more easily make color variety because you can put down a whole bunch of different pigments when you do wet-on-wet, and they blend nicely, and then when you layer on top, you can still see the layer below it. Anyway, that forest scene is lovely❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!! I do enjoy watercolors, but for me gouache is always my go-to. I just love the versatility of being able to paint both transparently and opaquely with it! But I also enjoy using gouache and watercolor together. I'm hoping to play around a bit more with watercolor this year! (Just haven't really found the time.😅) Thank you so much for the insight!!
Just look at ANY famous artist - Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso… and don’t just google their signature pieces! they ALL worked with different mediums, drew and painted different subject - their „style“ changed and evolved over long stretches of time during their life. I’m kind of afraid of finding „my style“ because I don’t want to be limited 😂
I love your work, and your approach to it. I'm mainly a watercolorist with side trips to acrylic & ink. I've recently started playing with gouache and wondered what brush you use for your fine lines like in the little houses? Or for highlights. My WC brushes don't hold up very well on the details.Maybe I'm diluting it too much. I'm headed to your channel to see if you have a video . Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!! I think the brush I used in this video for the details was an acrylic Royal and Langnickel brush. I made a video last year on gouache supplies (called Don't Waste Your Money on These Gouache Art Supplies), where I go into more detail about which brushes I use. I like to use a range of different types! Watercolor brushes work well with gouache when I'm using it in a more diluted wash, mixed media brushes for a middle-of-the-road thickness, and acrylic brushes when painting thickly or more detailed. 💛
