A few points: Raw denim sizing - depends on whether the denim is sanforized or not. Get your true to size if sanforized. If not size up to account for shrinkage. Find it difficult to believe it's your first raw denim. I personally prefer jeans made in Japan. I used to buy a lot of Japanese raw denim before the financial crash causing the the Yen to get stronger against the pound. Worth buying raw jeans from Nudies as they offer free lifetime repairs. How's that for sustainability. Raw denim last longer as they're not chemically treated and have a much more tighter weave. They will soften up through wearing. Asket - I rather pay more to have something that fits me just right and last longer for cost per wear. Sometimes an half an inch can make all the difference to a look. You often hang on the clothes for much longer because they fit just right. Unlike the crap from Uniqlo where the fabric is thinner and poor selection of sizes. Uniqlo used to be good around the mid 2000s. Missed the early stuff from COS whey they first opened. Haven't worn Acne as they look too gimmicky for me since knowing about the brand from the mid 2000s. Personally I like the timeless looks with having an individual style. Trendy is just a code word for sheeps wearing what others are wearing. Done the oversized look in the eighties. Watch the official video for Stone Roses' Fool Paradise where they nailed the look in 1989. Last, there is nothing new in fashion. Just stuff being reinvented made to look ridiculous.
@@rockygabriel7096 the "raw denim" from asket is sanforized. I dont think sanforized is raw but a lot of manufacturers will call it that anyway if it is unrinsed.
@@lt3880 Sanforized is just a process to pre-shrunk woven garments like, for example, cotton tshirts. @rockygabriel7096 got confused through poor reading.
After seeing this I went to Asket store and I’ve bought 2 T-shirts one short sleeve and one long sleeve. I’ve told them that I thought they were a ripoff from Arket but after seeing your video I was convinced to try them out. They were very pleased to hear that ❤
Would also highly recommend their chinos and linen pants. They're incredibly well done, the chinos are the best chinos i've ever owned. You asked for input on durability. I have T-shirts from years ago and it's exactly the same. Even bought a new one to compare and I wouldn't have known which was which.
I agree with you about the tshirts.... lose collars are a deal breaker for me. The large fits me perfectly except the collar which just feels weird because its so wide.
I'm a swede and got the luxury of shopping at their one and only store. I own a bunch of things from Asket t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jean shirt, oxfords, flanell shirt, the overshirt, turtlenecks, jeans, chinos and chino shorts. I can testify that the clothes hold up. Ive had a black tshirt from Asket for 5 years and its still in great condition. My personal favourites from the brand is the chinos and the overshirt. Cant recommend the brand enough. Also love seeing you cover the brand.
The current costs: The raw denim jeans cost 1450 sek, the t-shirt cost 450 sek and the hoodie 1250 sek. The the prices have slightly gone up over the years. I paid 1000 sek when i bought my hoodies some years ago. Asket uppdates their customers over their newsletter and useualy explain the mark ups. And have promised in the past to lower them again should the production cost go down again.
Dear James, my credit card would like to not thank you for this video and giving me ideas. I mean they have a sand coloured tshirt in ladies' department. i need.
lovely to see that you are covering Asket, haven't really seen people talk about them. Four years ago I was desperately on the lookout for a plain white t-shirt and once I stumbled across Asket I knew - this is the one. So I bought their white T-shirt and the black Longsleeve and I love them. Even after four years they hold up pretty well and I actually don't feel much of a difference wearing them now. Also recommended it to a lot of people that were looking for basics. So yeah, great brand imo, also they introduced their women clothing line a few years ago and this also slaps.
Have been a asket customer for quite a while. They have the most inconsisten quality. I have a size s T-Shirt that has the same lenght and widht as my a Size M T-Shirt. And my other size S are way smaller then the measurments stated on the Website. I have ordered 2 belts in the same size. The both belts differ 5 cm in lenght (5cm = 1 Size). Had this Problem with others peaces aswell.
Asket are a quality brand. I have so many pieces from them. Even sent me a Christmas card for being a loyal customer. Also their customer service is amazing
Love this review, much like you I want a tshirt with fitted snug sleeves and a higher/tighter neck. Have you found any alternatives? The neck in this tee does look a little loose and low
James, great review. New to your channel and without doubt one of the best! Brilliant. Yes to Asket! Amazing brand and indeed the future of clothing. No sales, no gimmicks etc. Just excellent clothes with a conscience and a view to the future. I have [only] two pieces thus far. T shirts. Grey marl. Bought from the beginnings of the brand so 2018? Fantastic! Still going strong. I stand at only 5ft 3in ..what 160cm?.. and long legs for my height etc. So the length of T shirts is so important. Hence why the Asket ones are [some] of my favourites. I get comments whenever i wear them. [i prefer 'vintage', charity etc where and when possible. Again trying to ensure key pieces, classic etc. After all i am getting on so ''fashion'' is very much a thing of the past. For me Asket is T shirts, polos and sweatshirts. Thanks for your review and insight. Let us hope the brand continues and indeed others emulate what they do.
I wanted to love their chino pants but after a couple of washes (cold) mine shrank and one pair no longer fit me. I bought 3 pairs and they all fit differently so there is some inconsistency there as well. The fit is great initially, but not worth the price for me. I would like to try some other pieces though.
Great vid. I have the overshirt in Olive which I love, it softens and fades nicely over time. Also whilst they don’t do sales you can sometimes pick up cheaper pieces with minor faults or discontinued stock direct from their website.
The raw denim is good , inhave many raw denims some stretch in times.... The T shirt with all measurements? That is a champ! .... Hoodie just pass.... Many better option for that...
I own multiple pieces from ASKET - the standout items being their Denim (I particularly favor their washed denim, which despite being washed, still develops beautiful fades); T-shirts (the collar opening is the only downside); and Chinos (seriously, these are perfect)
Got the beige chinos from Asket . They are absolutely amazing . They feel so so good on the skin and fit great . Just ordered the hoodie and t shirt . Amazing company
I probably couldn't fit my feet in jeans that slim, definitely not for me. Indeed I have serious trouble finding jeans that fit me since most european brands are super slim. I bought suitsupply's newest straight-relaxed jeans after trying them out in their Amsterdam store while on a business trip, and they are almost perfect...except the waist shrank (I think?) and is too small now, which is super frustrating since unlike tailored trousers jeans don't have any inlay so I'm screwed now. They're also long, but that applies to any and all trousers when you are short. On the other hand I've wanted a collared sweatshirt for a long time (I wear shirts most of the time and would love a collar even in the most casual clothes), should I go for the Merz.B.? It is super expensive for a sweatshirt.
Great video. Asket quality is great. Just so vanilla and boring. Lack any style or personality. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy anything more than a few basic items. Bonobos also do the shorter lengths. So helpful 👍🏼
Was interested in their t-shirt, but they've since upped the price to £40, plus they charge £10 for delivery on orders under £100 so really becomes pricey unless youre willing/want to order other items
Throughout the whole video I was thinking: “that exactly the same things can be bought at Uniqlo” Maybe quality slightly better, but I’m sure raw denim jeans just same
The quality blows Uniqlo out of the water actually. All fabrics are stiffer and have a certain weight to it, and the stitching is tighter. I don’t like some of the styling of certain stuff like their outerwear and their pants are too slim for my liking but I buy basically all my shirting from asket.
I have bought a few different clothes from Asket over the years. And I agree that they are good basic clothes. The problem with Asket for me is the style. It is very safe and a bit boring, so I get tired quite quickly. If you like the preppy style, Asket it's a safe bet. Personally, I probably prefer a slightly more personal style.
I’d recommend giving Percival a go. Especially their Auxiliary line but their seasonal stuff is also pretty great if you want something with a bit more wow factor.
I have an Oxford shirt by them - it’s really nice quality and is worth the price. It’s also great they give a lot of sizing options, though If I was to buy from them again I’d probably size up slightly, at least for shirts, the regular fit is slightly on the slimmer side
I love the brand. After I bought a coat from them two years ago, I stop buying from any other brand. Their products are in high quality with reasonable price.
Everlane used to be my affordable basics and they were transparent on every garment. They’d never go on sale so it was priced fairly. In the last 5 years or so though, they’ve amped up the prices and not every piece is transparently priced and they always send discounts…
Nice topic video James. Fyi, For raw denim it will be a little bit shorter in term of length with washes. But it will expand in the tight areas like waist, quads and calfs with wear. Ofc if you maintain it and wash it well. And if it’s good quality.
small leg openings are always a deal breaker. I have a pair of king of slubs from NF and they legit make me feel claustrophobic. Some days i worry that i may not be able to get my feet out once I put them on.
Raw denim will shrink if they have not been pre-washed and if you wash them in warm or hot water. If they have been pre washed, you may be able to stretch them but not by much.
130€ for raw denim looks like pure gold to me! please let us know how they evolve in the few weeks of wear! also fyi merz b basic tees are back on stock
I have three Asket t-shirts and they have held up in the wash very well. They are my best T-shirts. I also have Uniqlo tees that are great for the price But the Asket tees are better in every category.
I think the raw denim is great, but size 29 would be better. It does stretch if you wear it a lot, but it will shrink in the waist when you eventually wash it. The shirt is perfect. I found a great crop shirt from Industry of All Nations. Size M is 21” x 21” boxy shirt and I’m 5’ 6”. Look into size L. Also, Bershka sells cheap boxy crop shirts.
The hoodies not having a kangaroo pouch is my nb 1 thing I love about it. I have four of their hoodies for this reason, I dont get why a lot of brands just dont make some without it.
Just recently got their smart trousers in a cotton & lyocell blend and I’m obsessed with them , most versatile pair I’ve own, well constructed and good materials. I’ve been trying to find reviews of the brand online before investing more on them but they seem a little unknown still hahahah
Jeans Look nice but also they look super uncomfortable but to be honest no jeans is really comfortable at the beginning I would never fit in them haha Also I absolutely know the struggle To get shorter length tops I am usually a XL or XXL and you wouldn't believe how long they get ion this sizes Even when I buy cropped peaces 😂 Good one mate
Made in italy sadly doesnt necessesarily mean anything, as sweatshops with really bad working conditions are legal there. So, it might be good, but you gotta do your research if you want to make sure your purchase suits your ethical standards.
@@JamesLeung thats why I pointed it out :) its really cool that Asket is so transparent, but most companies are not and made in Italy is only with a damn if traceable, sadly
That denim will not stretch appreciably but in the waist maybe an inch after 20 wears (and will shrink back with a wash). As for the fit, honestly it's just terrible: too slim, the hem opening makes you look pencil thin , and so much for wearing a decent pair of boots. This brand is boring, unimaginative in design, but admittedly gets points for being all Swedish about pursuing less and recycling etc. I will be pursuing no Asket, so that would suit their marketing model just fine.
I feel like £100 for a high quality hoody is very reasonable these days, especially considering the high traceability of the brand and the fact its ethically made in Italy. I feel like being more conscious about your consumption is a good thing and supporting ethical brands is the way to go. Yes its more expensive but I don’t see this as a bad thing as it’ll minimise overconsumption as you’ll think about your purchases more and whether you really want it, the quality is miles better than fast fashion so will actually be in your wardrobe longer than a season.
You should check out a Finnish brand called Alpa. They produce high quality clothing mainly made from alpaca wool, but also some other materials. They also have a repair service for their clothing. To be transparent, I haven’t tried out any of their clothes (price is a bit steep) but would love to see a review! Btw Great content as always!
just want to tell you i love your videos! this is my favourite youtube channel when I'm relaxing at home. I find your contents very soothing and interesting.
