I am not a holder of Regis but gee what a disgraceful decision. I feel for holders. This is like changing the rules after the game has started. This is a bullshit political decision.
Great show guys and share your concerns 100% . Stakeholders invested need certainty. Not have all the rules in place and then overturn them on a “whim” …
It’s about time for a company to challenge native title. Otherwise this kind of thing will happen more frequently going forward as the traditional groups and the other interest groups latch onto this cash cow.
When you were a kid and someone pinched your bike say... would you look favourably on that kid demanding your dad let him keep it? Hmmm. Also you can say Traditional Owners. This land is proceeds of crime. The Crown is the thief and you sound like the pawnbroker.
@@patrickcarlin3015would you give up your house and land because once upon a time it was 'aboriginal land' and because it was once theirs and stolen from them that they are entitled to it now? If not, why not?
Whilst both these projects were not brilliant economically, these decisions and timing of these decisions does create a real sovereign risk environment for mining development and potential in Australia. The relevant industry bodies funded by the industry has to fight this and if necessary become political as the federal election looms. We need pro mining information and it’s importance to Australia presented to people in all media outlets.
I was not going to invest in Africa, now I'm not going to invest in Australian mines anymore after this. What a disgrace completely political coming into an election. Talk about sovereign risk. Holder of SVL
Australia depends on mining. Labor is doing everything it can to destroy it. Comet Ridge’s/ Santos Mahalo gas project will be next to get the chop from Plibersek. That’s the end of gas to support intermittent renewable energy. Australia is now a no-go country for investment. Living standards will now collapse. This is a re-run of Whitlam who had to be sacked by the GG.
i'm from NZ but watched the start of the Rugby game on the weekend Wallibies vs sth Africa and they do whole cultural welcome to our land thing and i was shocked at wthat was being said. And not in a good way.
If you cannot put in power cable to a mine then how the hell is Chris Bowen going to run miles and miles of cable for all his renewables he wants to install. We can have respect for traditional owners but let's not forget who are the current owners. Make all politicians do a stint working in a mine I say!
the mine can go ahead but the tailings (cyanide i believe) dam cannot be near the the top of the river. As minister for environment and water, Tanya has to protect both, and of course the people whose land Regis are on are more than entitled to have their voices heard (for a change). So Regis and all mining companies are on notice, ensure you have found the best solution for the environment....you know, the E in ESG! This is not an anti mining stance, get on and find a solution.
It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that “resource locking” is the policy. What for, perhaps for the victor post a world war. We’re selling gas to them for peanuts for them to onsell (export) the excess. Yet we don’t have an adequate Australia first policy (like the US). I understand WA has such a policy (for now), however that doesn’t help the east coast gas shortage.
Re 15:43 - just confirming that the Wiradjuri and the section 10 applicant were one of the thirteen registered aboriginal parties engaged with during the IPC approval process. The Wiradjuri made a number of submissions to the IPC including interviews
So on the one hand we want a minerals industry but on the other hand we will overwrite in situ processes to result in increased sovereign risk of investment. BHP have also warned about what is happening in Australia
