Band-Maid is the best band of the last 20 years.
@bobespirit2112
@bobespirit2112 2 года назад
Maybe last 30 years? 40 years? 50 years? Forever? Having fun, yes, but at the same time I think there is a case to be made that Band-Maid is a very rare and special band that has a body of work ranking them extremely high. As an older guy who’s literal first memory is seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show (I think it was a summer 1964 replay of the original Feb 1964 show - I remember the sun was out and wasn’t old enough in February to watch or remember) through the great bands of the 60’s, 70’s and beyond - Zeppelin, Floyd, YES, Queen, The Who, CSN&Y, CCR, etc. I fell into the RUSH rabbit hole for many years and feel they were the best overall band from the late 70’s onward - to me, the best at combining excellence in lyrical content, interesting compositions & arrangements, instrumentation & sound with virtuoso playing and high-level performance excellence. I’m excluding Metal - that’s a completely separate analysis - obviously Sabbath, Priest & Metallic & others rate highly in that world - but I don’t think that’s the right comparison to our more rock-oriented, most-versatile Maids. Ofc, there have been more recent great bands - not saying otherwise - U2, GNR, and the big grunge bands and more recently Muse, Foo Fighters, etc. but there is something special about our Maids and there remarkably high-level work album after album and in fact that they are continually raising their level in all aspects - in every aspect - lyrics, composition, arrangements, performance, etc while still keeping that essential accessibility and ear and singalong friendliness - I think maybe they do the combination of all the elements better than anyone before…? I guess they haven’t written a Stairway to Heaven, Battle of Evermore, Ohio, And You & I, Won’t get fooled Again, La Villa Strangiato…yet…perhaps it’s just a matter of time…🤷🏻‍♂️ For today, who is doing it ALL any better than our Maids…?

Misa's bass is more prevalent on the live version, plus Misa and Akane start the song off with a lil drum and bass jam. Another Plus it's a 2 for 1 with "Manners/Black Hole" live

They call themselves a hard rock band, but now I think they have created a new genre called Band-Maid that goes beyond genres. And, Akane says this song was that the pattern is simple, but since the bass drum is on the back side, if my step on it wrong position, it will collapse all at once, and the sound needs to be echoed to the bottom without getting lighter, so it was the most difficult on the album. Misa, on the other hand, says she was able to do it right away, with a baseline that came to her mind, without thinking too hard. Also, I would like to see a little more frequency in the reactions of the Band-Maid.

You can hear lots of stuff in their music. Important thing to remember is that Band Maid make 'Band Maid Music'. What separates 'Band Maid Music' from the rest is - detail. Kanami, Misa and Akane put a lot of detail into their arrangements. It's never a regular bass line, drum pattern or riff/solo - they curate what they do. Listen after listen you'll find something new.

Often I hear shades of Geddy Lee in Misa. The way she uses the full range of her instrument and plays such intricate counter melodies to the guitars and vocals really fills out the music the way Geddy did for Rush. Definitely my favorite bassist playing today.

Good work!. MISA The Tone. This is probably the only band that builds their music on complementary bass and lead guitar riffs. Like butresses in cathedrals. At least I am not able to find something similar in the rock music that I have heard so far. The rhythm section in this case is made up of drums and rhythm guitar. Since the drums are also free to adjust to what the song is demanding at each moment... sometimes only the vocal melody and the rhythm guitar sustain the very complex network of layers, a bit like in jazz but with an impressive rock sound. Sometimes progressive, sometimes groovy, sometimes thick and chunky, always fun... Anyway... a miracle of a band. Thank you!

Manners was my introduction to Band maid, recall it was suggested when listen to AMDKJ (Scandal), and is still my #1 of the songs of the maids. I love Band maid despite their music being somewhat heavy so this kind of groove is more my thing. It is more complex than I thought from the start though as I think the mv-production makes it slightly difficult for me to hear all of the lines, Wave Potter made a great breakdown of Manners for each instrument one by one so you can hear everything being played. I can really recommend that analyze if you are interested. The live version is also more clear imho. Thanks for you reaction anyway. If you want more from Unseen world I would suggest No God or Black Hole. Going back to earlier work the mv for Blooming is a good choice or the mv for Dice.

If you love the bass in this then you have to check out the version from the live online concert, it is suspected that Misa bribed the sound engineer , probably whiskey was involved. A few reactors have referenced RHCP in respect of this song and I don't disagree with anything you said about this and Misa's bass playing but Kanami's bluesy guitar stands out to me in the MV version.

Fantastic song :) I like this MV more than the live- its more powerful imo. And yes Misa is always amazing :) They are a lot more than just another rock band- but they are indeed a rock band- even though they drift about all over the place in style and song type! far more than most bands do- and are also more creative in composition than almost any other bands- and they are all amazing instrumentalists :) I could go on. BM are the only Japanese band I am really super into but if you want to check others out there certainly ARE other very good japanese bands- metal, rock, and probably every sort- they have a thriving music scene.

If you want one of the best tracks for Misa's bass playing to be showed off, try No God official live :) And pay attention to her bass track throughout! Incredible imo. Its like a 4 min bass solo in the background. You can also find instrumental videos of no god- (the ones with white backgrounds) and 5 different versions- one with the camera focused on each member only- and one of the whole band- they shot those for the dvd extras stuff with the collectors edition i think? Anyways, you can find the no god instrumental version just watching Misa on YT - check that out too! (either after the proper song or just for yourself) its amazing how complex a bass track can be and how much of it you realise you miss if you dont listen carefully.. Ive no idea how she can have such a complex busy bass linebut it still does its job, and it fit in perfectly with everything else the band is playing.

I would very much recommend Asterism for pure instrumental awesomeness. Think japanese Polyphia levels of skill including 7-string bass and one of *the* guitar prodigies. They're a three-piece band of ridiculous talent, they're not too popular (which boggles my brain, quite frankly) but they seriously should be. Dawn is *the* calling card, but Church shows off a lot of skills as well, and they're even great entertainers as is probably most obvious in their performance of Blaze (Live). But I can say with confidence that every single track of theirs is awesome, and that includes a rendition of SRV's Scuttle Buttin' that'll leave you wondering what he himself would have thought of their performance. Yes, that's blatant advertising, but they do deserve it :) More on topic, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that Band-Maid have some of the most catchy riffs and most accesible yet intricate songwriting right now. Love everything of off the Unseen World.

Band Maid do Band Maid very well. If eventually you listen to their huge back catalogue (nearly ten years together) there will be elements of punk rock, light rock, heavy rock even a spot of metal. There will always be the solos. There will always be the heavy bass.(MIsa is a fan of Red Hot Chilli Peppers) There will always be the instantly catchy hooks. It's not a Rabbit Hole. It's a Pigeon Hole, because Miku's last name means Little Pigeon, which is why she ends her sentences with Po. In Japan pigeons don't coo, they … karuppo. Yes, BAND-MAID are always fresh yet familiar. But you will break your brain trying to figure out where their influences came from. MISA MISA MISA!!! She never subscribed to the old adage that there's no money above the 5th fret. She works the neck, the whole neck! But Akane doesn't always play simple beats either. They have control of their music. From the creation through to final production. MISA said in an interview that Miku is their producer, which did and did not surprise me. It starts with Konami's basic music with drum lines. Akane and MISA generate their lines. Miku writes the lyrics from there, with Saiki in the process. Good lyricists always involves their singer. All are in the studio to "fine tune" for the final song. Saiki has the "We're" Done" call. Some tidbits from over the years, Miku has given Kanami lyrics to write to, Kanami has changed the music to better fit the lyrics. Also they are the only Japanese rock/metal band that have instrumental songs and create acoustic versions. Miku recently placed 2nd in the National Poker Tournament!!!
