Ngl i liked a lot this game. I started again after leaving on the sin tzu without having memorys of the entire game. Is just awesome. At first you get into the trouble of not having enough techniques but it solves up after a while, you learn earlier how to do those long timing sequences and it becomes easier since you get the pattern and timing in memory without noticing about it. I can say the most fun part was the inside ship mission? Maybe it took me 2 tries but when you get in hand with the combos and the batarang and rolling, it becomes much easier. Awesome game lol
I cannot say its underrated, but Def Jam Fight for NY was the best beat'm up/brawler game of this generation. In my opinion of course. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks being a close second. If you haven't already, you should check them out. Excellent video once again. Keep up the good work.
wow I was looking at gamecube batman games and skipped this one because it had such poor reviews but this review makes it look like the best batman game on the console!
Did anyone else read the novelization for this game? I must have read it dozens of times as a kid, and am returning to it yet again, hence why I'm here. Each chapter is from the perspective of a different character taking place over the course of the night, and it contextualizes a lot of Sin Tzu's character, how he managed to break everyone out, and even explains why some of the more notable villains aren't present. It's a good, fascinating read, and anyone who likes this game should give it a shot.
Speaking of the clayface's strikes , besides the timing its probably also a matter of chosing the side you dodge regarding the hand his using to attack you.
I played this game with my dad for as a little kid, I loved it but we definitely got stuck on the boat and batcave for a while before finally giving up in the sewer. About a year later I came back and got to the final boss with my friend but we couldn't figure out how to beat Sin Tzu. I finally beat him about a decade after I originally got the game
I am never sure the beat'em up genre is for me, but I love it almost unconditionally. Batman RoSZ is such a well made game and is not a slap together license title. Where Vengeance had a bunch of rough spots from trying to fill in a story, RoSZ has a more cohesive focus. It does a good job with character animation, which is a huge plus for something based on a beloved animated series. Being a huge Batman Family dork, the ability to play as Robin, Nightwing or Batgirl is heavenly. Now, you are very correct. This game is punishing. And for me to beat it now would be like battling a kangaroo on quaaludes. It is way too long, but if you're day hasn't gone so well and you just need to blow off some steam, those first two levels don't clock in at more than an hour usually. And two player action? Ubisoft made a few Batman series fans dreams come true with that. Great review, and fantastic topic. Today we are still getting beat'em ups, but they haven't changed much from this game or Golden Axe. We just have bolder presentation and skill trees.
Awesome comment, thank you! I feel like ROST could have been really exceptional with a few tweaks here and there. The controls, and combat, are so damn good. I
it was extremely frustrating. you're better off using batman. he is slower but stronger, which makes it a little easier to clear the objectives within the timer limits. it took me almost an hour to pass the bat cave part 🤦♂️
implantgames NFL 2K2 definitely came out on DC, XBOX, and PS2. I believe NBA 2K2 did as well, and I don't see why both games wouldn't have come out on GameCube as well. NHL 2K2 was Sega's last release on the Dreamcast, so that probably ended up on all 4 as well.
I saw another review claiming the upgrades weren't really helpful since they took too much time, and just mainlining your regular button-mashy starter combos from beginning to end was the best strategy. Kinda curious if this was the case, and you're not really encouraged to vary your combos, as your review seems to say the purchaseable moves help fill up the special meter quicker?
Just my opinion, but I think the overly tight time limit really hampers this game. I always feel like I just have to constantly spam the most powerful combo available just to maintain the required pace, which really undercuts what are otherwise some in depth combat mechanics for the time and genre. It just makes the game not fun, which is a shame because almost everything else is cool. The combat engine isn't really that bad once you start unlocking moves, but again the harsh time limits pretty much limit you to spamming basic combos much of the time and undercut some of the depth and variety that would otherwise be there.
first playthrough AND on hard at the moment, it does exactly that. I always choose hard difficulty when theres a choice, but thats really more brutal than expected (to think that it was probably targeted towards kids). Needless to say I loled hard (perhaps cryied a little too) when I realised not only that it expects you to beat it in all difficulties to unlock everything, but that there is an actual dark freaking knight unlockable difficulty too.
I beat the game on easy, medium, and hard when I was a kid. I think I made it about three-quarters through dark knight difficulty. The timer could be tight in the later levels, but I didn't have nearly the trouble you did, and I'm terrible at video games. Odd.
