I didn’t start making money until I my 11th year as a therapist. $700 - $900 a day with outcalls. Networking is a big thing also learn as much as you can. ART, NMT, CES, Myofascial release are highly favored. If you have a degree in exercise science or kinesiology you're already a step ahead.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It's very helpful! I'm thinking about taking RMT in Centennial. But I'm a mature student and need to take care of my family. Can you pls share an example of the timetable? eg.: how many days a week to have classes, and how many hours of classes every day? Appreciate your great help. 😘

I’ve come to hate it after 3 years. My employers treat me like a machine. 7 hours of back to back sessions. No break except a prolonged lunch. I’ve totally got the burn out

😱😱 I’m SO sorry to hear that this is how you have been treated. 7 hours back to back is inhumane and absolutely unacceptable. May I ask where are you located?

@TheRMT_effect I am located in rural Indiana. I practice massage at a chiropractic clinic. I am an employee paid by the hour. Yes three hours in the morning then they give us a two hour lunch and then 4 hours in the afternoon. I would prefer to have a regular 30 minute lunch and breaks in between sessions. They believe it messes with the scheduling🙄

You are scaring me. I'm doing a career change being a nail tech to become a massage therapist. I will be graduating this December. As for taxes it is the same for doing nails, you have to save money on the side.

Hi Katie! I am so sorry. It wasn't my intension to scare you at all. Massage therapy is a GREAT career. Its extremely rewarding and I enjoy it deeply. You are making an awesome transition - don't doubt it! My goal with this video was to explain the challenges that sometimes exist. As I am sure you know, all professions have difficulties and sometimes people only think about how much money they can make and don't consider other aspects. I am so exited to be your college soon! Massage Therapy is evolving rapidly and becoming more recognized and understood every day. Please feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions or concerns. Wish you the best!

Your best bet will be to figure out which niche of massage you want to go into, and go for it. Whether it's getting an extra certification in Lymphatic Drainage massage to care for post-op patients, cancer patients, or solving specific common problems like frozen shoulder. Don't settle for the craptastic wages they offer at franchises. If you work at a spa, when first starting out, ask for hourly pay. Find a reliable accountant, to help guide you with saving for taxes, if you do decide to work as an independent contractor. And don't allow them to abuse you by making you scrub toilets. Know your worth as a licensed medical professional.

@@TheRMT_effect I love it, I wanna work more in a clinical setting rather than a spa setting cause I’m not a big fan of Swedish, I’d love to work with a chiropractor and see people with muscle problems cause I love their reaction after. I really appreciated your videos. I also find it interesting the amount of healing it takes to be a massage therapist. It is a lot of school . I had a question about continuing education. I want to start working eventually for a spa once I finish my massage therapy school education. I have seen online that people learn neuromuscular therapy and myofascial release and so forth. Do you think going to a seminar is the best way to get the Continuing education credits ? what worked for you after your first year of practicing and deciding what to do for more education as a massage therapist?
@TheRMT_effect
@TheRMT_effect 2 года назад
Hi Stephanie! Great questions! There’s tons of Continuing Education courses to take and I find that taking additional courses really helps shape you as a therapist after school. Personally, I focused on mastering the basics first for the initial 5 months and then took my first course. I was hooked after that LOL 😂 i like courses that have hands on as well as theory. Seminars and talks are great, but I find that practical components are very important to succeed in this field. Are you in Canada? Theres some really cool courses to take here if you want to go into the spa industry

@@TheRMT_effect I mean, when in a job offer to specify a rate per hour of 65-80 is it most often for an hour of work or for a client? I know that it all depends on the clinic but how is it in your experience?
@TheRMT_effect
@TheRMT_effect Год назад
@@Igor-en8gp It’s based on the cost of the treatment. For example, for a 30 min treatment you may get paid $65. You will need to ask that question to the employer to be certain, but usually your pay structure is calculated as a percentage of the total cost of the treatment. If your split is 60% and they charge $100 for a 1 hour treatment, you will get paid $60. If they change $160 for a 90 mins, you will get paid $96. Hopefully that makes sense? Let me know if you have any other questions

So you don’t get paid hourly? It’s per client? Is it like that all over Canada? Or is every place different?
@TheRMT_effect
@TheRMT_effect 2 года назад
There are a few instances where you can get paid hourly, so it is possible. Some spas and franchises offer this form of compensation in addition to benefits, etc. However, you tend to get paid more when you get paid per client and are self employed. I know this is the case In Ontario and BC, but I am not 100% sure that’s the case in all of Canada.
