I'm so glad someone is talking about this! Whenever my gf's would go off b.c., their personalities would improve.. they just seemed more affectionate and increased their libido... This would come at the expense of less predictable cycles but was overall a huge net benefit! There are things a guy can do so you don't have to take this stuff!! Thanks Courtney!

Even if she gets off of it she can still have those hormones consumed through public water system. If you are not filtering it out or purchasing filtered water, she is still at risk at receiving those chemicals because the water plants only filled her out bacteria and solids, not hormones

Very sorry to hear this my friend. This was a great disservice to both of you as it destroyed two peoples lives even though only one person was taking the pill. Courtney is right about taking some responsibility for our actions. figuring out the ovulation time is not a bad method even though that may not be a fireproof method however it does present the opportunity for both adults to talk and make decisions together. A common problem with adults and having the sex but not the conversation. Just a suggestion. Wish you all the best. 10/12/2022

It's a real shame that so many pills, not just birth control, have so many negative side effects. If you pay attention to pretty much any commercial involving medication, they spend about half of the commercial if not more time telling you what could go wrong, and they only cover up the symptoms, not treat the root cause

They have to mention every possible side effect, no matter how rare. Consumers like you are bad at judging probabilities and risk factors. That's why you should seek an expert's advice, i.e. a doctor. They can help you understand what side effects, if any, are likely for YOU, and monitor your response to the drugs to take you off or adjust dosage as appropriate.

That’s why I couldn’t watch tv. Even since a kid - every commercial break they’d have at least 1 medication and it gave me anxiety hearing all those side effects. Plus, for some reason, the volume got way louder on the commercials. I’d stand up, and go outside every time. Little did they know they were so blatant with the programming and brainwashing that they deterred me completely lol. In the UK, there’s a commercial break at the beginning of a show, at the midway point, and at the end. Much more reasonable in my opinion.

I took birth control for 15 years!!!!! I stopped over a year ago and I feel so much better.. I finally feel like it’s working it’s way out of my body completely. I’ll keep spreading the good word for women to be informed! Love to see other women making these types of videos and sharing their experiences. I also think it’s important info for men to know too! Tracking my cycle has been soooo much better for me! Women should be taught this early on instead of BC being pushed by doctors. I was put on BC as a teenager by my gyno. My PCOS has actually IMPROVED since I got off BC. My mood, anxiety, libido, and everything have improved soooo much too.

Based as hell. In all seriousness, this is just another example of the over medication of our society over the past few decades. The entitlement to have all of your problems solved instantly by taking a pill is not healthy. The first girlfriend that I was intimate with said she had tried birth control and she hated it. I didn't think much of it and accepted that maybe it wasn't right for her. My second intimate girlfriend brought up going back on the pill when things were getting serious. I encouraged it because what the hell did I know. I know a lot more and am significantly more based than I was then (that was only 3 years ago). I hope this coming closer to the surface wakes more people up. I will never recommend anyone I am with to take birth control and this makes me even skeptical to date anyone who is on it. Thanks for all that you do, Courtney. I learn something new in all of your videos and I look forward to them every day.

Courtney, my boyfriend recommended your channel to me and I really enjoy your content! Thank you for talking about this. I was on the pill for 15 years to "treat" a myriad of hormonal issues, including acne and endometriosis. I believe the pill was a factor in my divorce after almost five years of marriage. I had another long-term relationship but it didn't work out and the things you mention in your video seem to match what I went through. I started seeing a functional medicine doctor last year and this March I started a protocol to heal my gut in order to be able to get off the pill without going through the dreaded "Post-Birth-Control Syndrome", and after only three months on it my doctor took me off the pill in June. I am amazed at the changes that I have experienced. I've lost 25lbs, I sleep better, I feel better, I look better, my body shape is changing, my depression, anxiety, and even suicidal ideations are all gone, my cycles are painless, my hormones are regulated, it's all very powerful to me. I feel like a butterfly that just came out of her cocoon and is experiencing everything for the first time. Interestingly enough, not long after going off the pill, I decided to start dating again and I have a wonderful man by my side whom I am sure I selected myself and not my brain fogged by chemicals! It's a scary thought to ponder! I'm so thankful I had the guidance to go off the pill in a way that worked best for me and I'm so glad to hear you didn't go through PBCS after stopping the pill! Please keep up the good work. Women and men need more content like yours!

Better to learn your natural fertility cycle, and men to use condoms.

I agree 100%! I also want to add the non-hormonal Gynefix IUD. It is not as known in the U.S as it is in Europe, but it is a non-hormonal IUD which is smaller and more flexible than the classic t-shaped non-hormonal IUD, and it doesnt increase the amount and pain of the periods like the paraguard does. Definitely worth looking into, the reviews are very positive. More people should be aware of that! People in the U.S usually dont know about that option because it is not marketed there, the doctors who apply it have to request it from Europe.

Thank you for bringing awareness to this issue. As a guy I don't have much direct experience here but its something I've always wondered about, to the point of worrying in past relationships if taking this little pill that seemed so normal and widespread could be harmful to us in ways we couldn't yet see or comprehend. We are conditioned to accept so many things in life without thinking and its never too late to question or change them.

Thanks for talking about this! I want to note that this is true for hormonal birth control. The healthcare system in the U.S. pushes individuals to get on hormonal birth control and it is prescribed for non-fertility related issues such as acne so easily! It surprised me a lot when I met people from the U.S and they are casually on hormones even when they are not sexually active. The non-hormonal options arent as wide as Europe. The t-shaped paraguard iud is the only non hormonal option other than condoms, which causes very crampy periods and increases the bleeding a lot, While better options like gynefix and copper ball arent in the U.S market. They should be introduced and doctors should stop prescribing hormons for everything!

I did not know that was a thing but after learning that, certain things made more sense like the increase in divorce initiated by women and the declining happiness of women in the last few decades despite being the most free and independent etc etc makes more sense knowing that BC affects mood and causes depression. I think the last couple of yrs has taught us that we should be questioning all medications a lot more than we currently do. Keep up the good work with the videos!

The huge caveat is that, for us, it’s either surgery (which sometimes isn’t reversible), our reproductive organs are a lot more obviously vulnerable, and that it’s risky for male subjects in trials for The Pill for men since it’s more difficult to control.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to men and women about this issue. The more we can open up and empathize with people the better and that means talking about things that might be considered private. When I met my wife, she wasn't on the pill. Later she went on it, but she had a hard time taking it at a consistent time like instructed. That may have led to not as many of the negative issues as talked about here surfacing with her, but that's also my recollection, not hers. I do remember that I felt bad that she was the one that had to deal with that issue and I as a guy got off, "Scott free." It didn't and still doesn't seem right or fair especially when we got engaged and were trying to set up as equal of a partnership in our relationship as possible. Later she went off the pill and we have had success with other forms of birth control. I also think Courtney is right in that there's a big push for a seemingly "magic pill to fix all my problems," in health care. There is no magic pill. New meds come out all the time but there's no data about long term effects until years later when people have been hurt and class action lawsuits arise. My advice, speaking as a paramedic with 12 years of experience, is to do everything you can to take as few medications as possible. There are a lot of advantages to modern medicines, and they do a lot of good, don't get me wrong. But healthy habits like a good diet, exercise, and whatever form of meditation you use can have a lot of great benefits without all the artificial chemicals going into one's system.

This is enlightening. I am a single man currently looking for a long term relationship with a woman. My biggest obstacle is finding a woman who also never wants to have children. Children are not for everyone. I don't want to compromise on that, nor do I want to talk anyone else out of it. I could use advice on that. In terms of male birth control, I would much rather get a vasectomy than wear a condom. Perhaps more men should get vasectomies and taking responsibility in this area, rather than forcing women to be on birth control or even something more serious like tubal ligation, hysterectomy or anything else along those lines.

Just have to be open about not wanting them, there are quite a lot of women that just don't want them anymore. That said, be careful as around 40 they often start questioning the decision, but it generally will wear off in a few years. Multiple studies into couples have found that couples who intentionally remained childless were statistically more likely to report being happier in their personal life and as a couple at every stage of the relationship be it young or about to die of old age.

Thanks for making this video, I experienced the same thing when I was 19 plus a whole slough of other issues and stopped taking the pill even tho my doctor kept recommending it. I took matters into my own hands and learned about My natural cycle/body and over the past 12 years I have gained more control on my overall feminine health. This is not to say that the doctors don’t know what they are talking about but I would often lean the gyn with more questions than answers/solutions. Everything is an experiment and needs to be tested and studied, and I was not comfortable being the subject. I do have many friends who have had unplanned pregnancies while they were on birth control or as soon as they stopped taking it and I do believe this is due to the lack of learning how their own cycle and fertility works.

Derek (@More Plates More Dates) has been talking about this for a few years. Many people do not realize that hormonal birth control is effectively a mini-steroid cycle, so it is not surprising that it has many of the same symptoms of guys when they are on a cycle. Regarding the male birth control: the first round of testing got shut down because they found it left several of the subjects permanently sterile. I think it is fairly safe to say that we really should stop trying to trick our bodies into doing what we want them to do as it is just leaving people with massive medical problems down the road.

I was put on the pill at 14 when I started getting mild acne. I was told to remain on it to ensure I wouldn’t get acne again and years later I became sexually active so was told to remain on it for that reason. I would get migraines so severe that I would lose my peripheral vision, sometimes faint and vomit. Still told to remain on it. After being on the pill for a decade I noticed anxiety and depression being part of daily life. I took a break from the pill for a few years and immediately felt better. Once I got into a long term relationship again I took the pill again for the last time and stayed on it for two years…..zero sex drive, volatile mood swings, anxiety. So I got off it and got severe acne for two years as my body was struggling to balance out my hormones. Other than the acne, I felt so much better coming off the pill. Like a dark cloud had lifted. I was definitely disappointed in myself for not taking the time to learn about my cycle and how to track it. I think this should be part of the education curriculum as studies have shown girls are starting their periods much earlier now.

@@Comeback180 I’m from the U.K. so there is no cost to me taking birth control and I think that’s part of the problem. It’s the first solution from the doctor and is incredibly accessible. If you go to a family planning clinic you can get a years worth in advance and so skip having your blood pressure taken along with height and weight that would be routine at the doctors office. I remember being encouraged to overlap my pill packets and not take the 7 day break if it was inconvenient (say I was going on holiday as an example). There is no education offered when you start the pill and no explanation of side effects given. Just a few basic questions to answer and you’re set. When my migraines got so severe I was nearly in a car accident, they just changed we to a different pill with a lower hormone level. Coming off the pill was never really a discussion.
@Jake12220
@Jake12220 2 года назад
@@Comeback180 it can also reduce cancer risk though. There was a long running legal case for Catholic nuns to be able to use birth control in order to stop having their periods. Reason being that as nuns generally never get pregnant they never get a break from regular periods and the risk of various reproductive related cancers increased (ovarian, uterine). Having a period is a pretty heavy strain on the body and in the old days when women would get pregnant every year or two they would spend a lot of their life not having them. The idea of fertile women going for over a decade without getting pregnant is a relatively modern issue but the negative effects are already becoming clear.

My mother (in her 70's) wondered the other day why so many young women now were on anti depressants or anti anxiety medications. She wasn't being condescending but was genuinely confused. After seeing this video, I have to wonder if there is a connection. And you're right, we certainly are all guinea pigs today. I am now 47, but as an 18 year old with acne my doctor prescribed me Tetracycline, which did work, but has a lot of side effects including anxiety, and many long term which I don't seem to have. A responsible doctor should have told me, "Son, you'll be done with this in like 2 years, let's look at some natural solutions that might help." Great video as always. Very helpful. Thank you.

Without sharing too many details, out of respect to her, a doctor prescribed birth control to my ex for various common ailments. I told her to stop taking it and work on a natural solution like eating better foods and getting more nutrients and vital minerals along with exercise. We actually had a pretty good relationship after that so I don't think it was the birth control that ended the relationship but other compatibility issues.

Not just birth control affecting women's hormones causing a lot of infertility&depression, what I find to be extraordinarily scary is the fact that water filtration companies only filter out bacteria&solids, they do not filter out hormones so men and women that drink tap water are exposed to even more of those birth control hormones which can cause a lot of men to develop cancers as well as a massive loss in testosterone. Yes certain estrogens can prevent cancers but a wide variety of estrogens can also cause cancer, like having plastic in your food can lead to clotting as well as cancers in organ tissues. Isn't it alarming to anyone else that men are developing breast cancer? That should be scary to any man that is highly estrogenic that has female breast tissue in place of skeletal muscle that is phenomenal for the immune system as well as the hormones of a man

One, hormones regulate the body's functions; mess with them, and you mess with your body's functions; it's only common sense. Two, WRT birth control, the only 100% effective contraceptive is abstinence. I'm viewing this not only through a Christian lens, but my own life experience with drama, unnecessary worry, and so on.. Three, if your acne re-emerges, consulting a good dermatologist will help. I had bad acne as a teenager, and a good dermatologist worked winders! Four, thanks for talking about this. This is why you should always use at least 3 forms of birth control, each time, every time you have sex. Then, if one fails the back ups give you better odds of preventing accidental pregnancy. With the pill, a diaphragm, and using a condom, the odds of pregnancy drop to about 1 in 50,000. 👍

Here’s a story for you. In my first LTR my GF cheated on me and detonated our relationship as she cycled onto the pill with, ironically, the stated intent of wanting to fully consummate OUR relationship. She had a weekend away at a music camp and met a guy there she had an instant strong attraction to. I’ve often wondered if her messed-up hormonal state had a role to play in that, it seemed way out of character for her at the time, she was sexually pretty reticent in fact, with a real fear of getting pregnant which not trusting condoms and going on the pill was supposed to solve. Tough to know of course, there were other issues in our relationship, some of these again caused by her not wanting to fully commit sexually, or maybe that was the symptom of a fundamental lack of attraction on her part?. Who knows? It really made me feel very small at the time that’s for sure. I’d been super respectful for a YEAR to this girl and 24 hours with another guy was all it took to undermine that. Part of being super respectful was it also beta-ized me in her mind over time I suspect as I sought validation for the lack of sex (penetrative - we did other stuff), but maybe messed up hormones played a part too in her infidelity? I’ll never know.

I was on the pill from 16 to 24. I was okay the first 4 years on it. Starting around 20 was when I started getting chronic yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, experienced vaginal dryness, low libido, I am an emotion personal so I can’t say if it made me more emotional or not. The yeast infection would not go away. Every month for like 5 years I got them. Antibiotics didn’t work, only thing that worked was getting off the pill. And after getting off of the pill I developed PCOS august of 2022. It took me a full year for my period to go back to normal. I am on month 4 of getting my period in a row and I’m really happy. My sex drive feels normal now. When I was on birth control I barely wanted sex and my brain like told me don’t have sex. It’s weird and doesn’t make full sense but like I wasn’t interested. Which caused issues in my relationship. I got off of birth control in October 2021. I came out to my boyfriend that I am bisexual and I feel like my sex drive is back to how it was before the pill. Me and my boyfriend get a long better now that I am off the pill. It’s weird but I feel more attracted to him now than I did before when I was on birth control. There needs to be more info on the side effects of all birth controls. I had 5 years of hell and the a year of hell trying to get my body back to its normal state. But now since I have PCOS the weight won’t come off. But my testosterone levels are finally at a normal range for a woman.

Actually, I disagree with condoms. I think that a big part of the problem we have with relationships today, especially due in part to hookup culture in general, is the idea that sex is primarily for pleasure. The ideas people have about responsibility when it comes to the idea of parenthood are so horrible compared to what the were even 40 years ago. Sex feels great when it’s with someone you’re committed to, and it may be hard and a long time before you find that person, but we need to make the family unit great again. Just look at the statistics regarding fatherless children. It’s disgusting, and I myself am in that statistic. The damage my parents did by fooling around without being with someone you want to commit to, and are compatible with, reached much further than their immediate troubles after they found out I was on the way. I have to deal with the consequences of their actions for my entire life. So please, consider how big a deal sex and relationships are, and try to look further down the line than the following morning, when you find out if she actually has eyebrows.

Sex is valued more or less depending on the person, l had an overweight friend who was raised in a very religious way that didn't value it much(then again he lost his penis for awhile due to the amount of fat surrounding it and his lack of size). I on the other hand being fit, healthy and well hung lived for sex in my younger days. It was the most important thing to me, often involving sleepless weekends of non-stop action. Just because you put a low value on sexual interaction doesn't mean everyone will. It does suggest that you have/had a low sex drive which often is due to either poor health or feeling or being very low in terms of desirability and thus having limited options. It may also stem from low hormone levels or the messed up concepts that you learnt growing up. At the end of the day, people are just animals and procreation is the most important factor for any animal after survival. In a young healthy human the sex drive should be extremely strong and if it isn't then there is likely something wrong, be it physical, mental or social.

As a Christian, I understand that people are human, and all of us, myself included, are capable of committing terrible actions in our own interest.
