It’s not about cost. Single barrel cask strength vs a Batched rye.

@@Mykkus it is thought because theoretically higher price=better quality. Not the case here. There’s no direct comparison for sure but EHT Rye is BT best rye that’s not an LE vs Jdsbbp rye which is the best jack Daniels rye not an le. Best against best

IMO that JD is the best rye period. It’s just not a good comparison imo. Single barrel rye would’ve been closer

Next battle do it completely blind without the knowledge of distilleries beforehand. That should make the tasting comments really interesting to watch. Of course you’ll have to do several more until one distillery reigns supreme!

Because of the “Tennessee Whiskey” factor, I typically put Jack in its own category and don’t compare it to regular bourbons, despite Jack technically checking that box as well.

@@TylerSmith-sq9oz hmm now you’re onto something. 4R v Michters. HH v Beam and maybe WT vs Buffalo Trace. Admittedly my favorite distilleries are WT, BT, Michters 4R. So I’d love so see those. I’d love to see peerless go against someone but what other distillery only offers at cask strength? Wonder how Peerless might do against a Bardstown.

Do 16 matchups and then using the scores, create a bracket and do a massive tournament during March!!!... kind of make the 16 matchups from now (Sept) until March, like the "regular season" ... then March Madness for the National Champion Distiller!... in the future, you can do this with current yearly releases!

My Jack Daniels SPBP Rye is the darkest whisky I've ever seen in person. It's much darker than the double oaked ryes and bourbons in my collection.

I prefer JD, but BT is great stuff. I’m sure the antique bottles are crazy good, I’ve just never had the opportunity to purchase one. I’ve got a JD 10 and 12 though and they are awesome.

Fortunate to have a GTS 2023. It is amazing. The nose is literally cherry cola and the palate is cake. Objectively it does not holds up JD12 or Russell’s 15 cause some how it feels lacking when being compared. However, personally would drink that over anything because it is just best BT note and I love BT note.

Ive had a few antiques and while typically very good (wasnt a fan of 2022 gts) i dont think they are really greater than a lot of other bourbons on the market like jack bp picks, russells picks, ecbp etc

I love the idea of a distillery head to head. Coy Hill v. GTS is not even close to a fair comparison. Coy Hill is JD's best ever product and I don't think you can say that about GTS. Can't wait for the next one though!

That tasting and scaling is pointless if you don't cleanse your palette each and every time you change your product. Some alcohol notes will be released and linger long after you take the drink. Especially on a muti barrel whiskey or bourbon. So may want to revisit this test.
