Calgary is a beautiful city surrounded by nature. It is in a prairie province, Alberta, here in Canada.
The city is considered a prime location with it being famed for its oil industry and cowboy tradition.
Recently, it has been gaining more traction and interest not just from investors in real estate but also those who wish to move to Calgary due to its relative affordability, safety, and great ambiance.
But what exactly makes Calgary so great?
Is Calgary a good city to move to or to live in?
What are the things you should know about living in Calgary?
These are just some of the questions that Felix Chan, a realtor and mortgage broker born and raised in Calgary answers in this video.
If you are planning to move to Calgary in 2022 or in the near future, then you should know about the good and the bad that you might experience in the city.
For seven years in a row, Calgary has been given the honour of being the fifth livable city in the world, ahead of cities like Vancouver and Toronto. The municipality maintains this ranking by consistently working on its stability, health care, education, and cleanliness, making it a desirable place to live in.
Felix Chan’s discussion is divided into major areas, including finances or your buying power in Calgary in terms of real estate and the cost of living in Calgary.
There is also a discussion on the activities you can experience or participate in within or near Calgary.
The weather, that being the main driving factor for some people to move to or from Canada is also discussed. Lastly, there are also discussions on safety, the numerous parks in Calgary and transportation.

I am from Montreal, moved to Vancouver for few weeks, I completely hated it , it feels like another country, every thing was so expensive. My Canadian $ is like suddently becoming Mexican pesos ( no offense to Mexicans at any mean) I felt like even a garbage bag in Vancouver would have a huge price tag. I just moved into Calgary and it feels already better. Montreal the winter is brutal that's why I left.

Yep 100%! If we look five or 10 years in the future and if Alberta is able to grow the tech sector, our luxury market is going to take off! Inventory levels will stay low because demand will outstrip the supply and that will be for all property types. Better buy now coz we are bullish on all the migration coming here! @LiveInnerCity
@LiveInnerCity 2 года назад
Oil and gas makes up 25% of Alberta's GDP and it will take a while to diversify our economy to the tech sector which is already happening. Looking at the Ukraine conflict, the EU's dependency on oil, the low inventory of oil, we see prices staying up for a while. Higher prices of oil = more investment in the oil sands = more jobs = people migrating to Alberta = vacancy rates decrease = real estate prices stay up or go to the Moon. Make the move, give us a call, get into a happy home! We can help 👊

My biggest pet peeve with Calgary is it is soooooooooooooo boring. Look at any city in the states that is similar size to Calgary 1-1.6 million, and they all have way more entertainment and things to do then Calgary. Our downtown core is empty after 6 pm and weekends, our museum is ok, but a lot of similar size cities have lots of museums and some a lot better. There are way more outdoor things to do around the city (I get it were cold 7 months out of the year). Our restaurant scene sucks. Once you get out of downtown and the surrounding area, it is all franchises, and they are all the same (Moxies, Earls, Joeys, Original Joes, and so on). Go down to the states and they have so many better restaurants. Not much to do for nightlife pre-covid. Yes we have 17th ave, but every city even Regina/Saskatoon has a few block stretch of bars and clubs. Travelling the states, most similar size city has a nice theme park (that would put Calaway park to shame) indoor water parks, huge indoor arcade/play fun centers. Also Calgary is close to...nothing (city wise...besides carbon copy clone called Edmonton). Lastly the one thing I always defended Calgary about was how safe it was. You can go to a small 70k+ city in the states and they have ghettos worst then anything in Calgary, but the past year or two there has been such a huge growth in our homeless population. Its like it doubled over night. People getting attacked on C-trains on a daily basis, drug use out in the open everywhere. Every few days there is a new article in the paper about how unsafe c-trains or downtown is. Also I will mention that I am well aware of the mountains and that is a huge plus for Calgary.
@LiveInnerCity
@LiveInnerCity 2 года назад
Thanks for all your input! The food scene is getting much better here, but that also depends on what you're into. Same thing goes with entertainment. As we move out of the health crisis and into an economy with sustainable growth we will see less crime as that has been historical trends. Different strokes for different folks, but if homeownership is one of your goals in life then Calgary is a great place to consider!

whats your take on the build quality of Mattamy homes?
@LiveInnerCity
@LiveInnerCity 2 года назад
Hey Don! Nothing wrong with Mattamy, you just need to make sure that they are able to deliver on what you want. FYI - I highly recommend you use a realtor to represent you because the sales people don't work for you, they're there to make sales for the builder. No different than having a lawyer represent you in court, the biggest difference is you have to pay your lawyer, whereas the builder usually compensates the realtor

Great facilities too like the YMCA in the south such as Remington or Seton or the NW eve Repsol Centre. Also shopping in Kensington, South centre, downtown or Chinook. Glenmore Park is good too, there are farmers markets around the Lamborghini dealership, also at crossroads and the NW near COP. Flames games at the Saddledome. UofC has many tournaments and shows. Oval skating rink etc. Stanley Park for skating and BBQ etc.

And do MBA'S easily get a job there and what's the Average Salaries and fields that really are having a huge potential and jobs and comparatively is starting UNIVERSITY better in BC and then coming to settle in Calgary a better idea ??

I asked about the #MBA ?? They are 2 different things completely AND Yes I do know about the #Calgary Economic D..... I haven't got your link 🔗 that you mentioned but have seen a lot of videos that CED have posted and CED happens to be RUN by council is it ? And is it specific to only Calgary or every city has One of the same economic development unit ?

Is Calgary WORTH it? No, it is a bureaucratic oligarchy, a police state hell-hole replete with two attack helicopters. a crazy mayor, insane taxation (to support the parasite class) and exploding over-crowded inner city bungalows (yes, literally exploding, as in boom). A house costs 600k and there are so few good jobs that thirty two percent of the downtown core sits empty.
