Only thing I ever owned from Carhatt is a pair of socks that I bought on sale, about 3 years ago. Wear them maybe once every week, still look good as new. That says a lot about their quality, top notch. Not really a fan of stuff you featured here though. Cheers
I Love my Carharrt hoodie so much I plan in buying more. I love it more than my Champion Power blend and Reverse weave even though I love them too Carharrt is more warm to me I think well last me for many years
I was in the original carhartt workwear store in Detroit 2 years ago and as a Dutchman I couldn't believe how much cheaper all that awesome gear was. Over here we mainly know the 'streetwear'/WIP side of carhartt, which of course has some beautiful designs. But the workwear fabrics feel much heavier and durable as well. I bought a stack of 11$ heavy cotton t-shirts that still get a lot of wear.
@@crack61616 Don´t think so. They are probably being produced in the same places (vietnam, bangladesh etc.) and directly delivered to their target countries
You should be comparing the same gear from WIP and mainline. You're comparing two different items even though they're in the same category (t-shirt, jacket, pant). WIP Pocket T vs Mainline Pocket T or WIP Detroit Jacket vs Mainline Detroit Jacket. WIP also has many designations for their clothing such as regular and loose fit and winter, spring and OG version. Your Michigan Chore Coat is the spring version with no lining so it is going to be much thinner whereas winter versions will have the blanket or fleece/quilted lining. You're only getting ripped off if you don't look for deals. If you routinely buy full price and some things like their shorts or certain pants then it is not worth it. WIP prices are far more reasonable and of higher quality than other mainstream streetwear brands as well as not being an in-your-face brand. People who need Carhartt for labor should not be buying WIP because WIP focuses more on fashion with more fitted looks. Mainline is also much bigger and with a boxy fit so not everyone can wear it well even if it is cheaper. If someone can fit in the mainline jackets and look good in it then they should stick with mainline. WIP prices are much higher in the US because of imports since WIP is a European brand. If you looked at the pricing at European retailers, it is cheaper and WIP USA actually lowered the prices on some of their popular shirts like the Pocket and Chase Tee. Those are now priced at $38 and $48 compared to $48 and $55. The Chase Hoodie also used to be $108 and is now $98. Still not cheap but more reasonable and definitely worth it with discounts. Also it is pretty rare for a streetwear brand to lower prices on some of their best-selling gear. WIP also has more unique designs and colors that mainline doesn't have so sometimes it is worth paying more for that uniqueness. Even WIP USA sales have been pretty solid the last few years with discounts as high as 65% on some of their most popular jackets. I see you bought from Nordstrom which also has WIP on sale sometimes but you can also find WIP gear routinely on sale throughout the year on many online streetwear boutiques such as .END, Steadbrook, Mr. Porter, Urban Industries, Bodega. You can get 20%-25% off routinely or even more depending on the holiday. There should be little reason to buy WIP at full price considering how popular it is in the streetwear world and how many stores carry it. In the end, mainline and WIP shouldn't really be compared 1:1 unless it's the same style/name. But even then it can still be picked apart because they're both different entities with different consumers and goals. Like with any streetwear brand, the pricing isn't always the best but there are lots of great items that are worth buying even at full price.
You make a lot of solid points. I admit this review wasn't 1:1 like the graphic tee vs pocket tee. There was some items that I had difficult finding in my size so I end up getting whatever I can get. Sales would definitely make WIP more worth it and if I didn't pay full price, I would lean towards the WIP over Carhartt for some of these items but me being impatient couldn't wait for a sale lol. And Yes, WIP and Carhartt are two different entities with different consumers and goals. I just thought itll be interesting to make a video and see the differences in term of material and fit. Appreciate your super thorough comment. Thanks for watching 🙂
This is exactly the comment I was going to make myself, thanks for saving me the hassle! As a Carhartt employee that wears WIP everyday to work I noticed a bunch of oddities in this video, most notably the fact that the comparisons were not apples to apples. The first thing he compared was the K87 with a graphic WIP print. The K87 is Carhartts heaviest and boxiest T, but he compared with a WIP regular fit tee. He actually should've compared it to a WIP Chase pocket tee as the Chase is loose fit where the pocket tee you mentioned is regular fit. He says the K87 doesn't fit him, but still recommends it in the end. That doesn't make sense, if something doesn't fit you, don't buy it! All in all, great video and I'm glad this dude put it out there. Thanks for the hype!
I legitimately love the fact that one of your test was lifting your arms up. It’s hard to find quality with functionality and that’s why I prefer work clothing brands like Carhartt. Love the brand Duluth too!
The details in this video! I've never bought anything from WIP before because I always thought it was way overpriced. Anything streetwear related is. I still think Carhartt workwear is all you need in life.
Glad to see a man who wears his clothes and knows what they're designed for. Men like you are what built this company and hopefully they will see this and keep following your lead so we can keep building everything for tomorrow.
Learned so much about Carhartt's interesting history from your video! Living in Akron, I really need clothes that don't draw attention and can keep me warm so definitely going to pick up some for Christmas.
I own a lot of pieces from both lines, more from WIP, mainly because of the fits they offer. It’s more of a preference but what I do like about the WIP line the most is how there isn’t any lack in quality of the pieces and how they play with creativity a lot through their releases whether it be graphics, the colors of the tees or random accessories they release. The workwear line is in my rotation a lot being from NYC, the winters can be brutal
I always buy WIP there coats last 15 years there T-shirt still look new 3-4 years later and there durable, expensive but more stylish than the original.
This makes a lot of sense, was looking to buy some work shirts and saw Carhartt WIP and was wondering why everything was overpriced and where the work shirts went😂 Your video is very great and informative. Carhartt is the only work shirt I wear but WIP has some cool designs. Gotta check ‘em sales out to see what they got!
I’m Carhartt WIP ALL DAY! I stay mostly away from the Graphic Tees and Graphic Hoodies, but I copped Winter Vests, Coats, Polos, I have mad pants and shorts. Son, WIP accessories: hat game is WIP’d up. Bags, cases, keychains. I love rocking slides and seeing Chase socks on my feet. Chase is not work wear🫠🫠🫠. It took a few tries before l got my size and fit right, but now, I love hurting ‘em with the matching sets. When Carhartt dropped the NFL HATS & MLB HATS!!! ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️👈🏾
I feel that the WIP line of Carhartt is a better fit for me while the Carhartt mainline runs larger in size. The mainline even in size small runs larger for me. I prefer the WIP
I’ve always been team carhartt cause they just do it right 🔥 it’s just so timeless and even though it is work wear, it still is so sleek and clean looking for the silhouette
Greatest carhartt video out there, kudos my friend and thank you. Bought a week ago my third pair of double knee front, never WIP tho! Keep uploading these great vids bro!
Being that I do alot of manual labor in my work life as well as in my personal life, I just buy workwear pieces, I do elsewhere in terms of brands when I buy things like selvedge denim, etc. However Carhartt workwear jackets are still some of the best for the price.
On point comparisons man. I still think $100+ for cargo pants and chinos is too much. There's too much hype around WIP. You can get similar items for a lot less. Doesn't have to be from Carhartt.
The reason why the sleeve openings are too big is so that u can fit a sweater/jumpers sleeve all the way through so that it doesn’t stack up inside the jackets sleeves.
The thing is, in Europe we don't have the regular Carhartt nor does it ship here at ALL. I rather just get Carhartt WIP for almost double the price because it's worth it and gonna last me for years anyway
That's not true, at least here in Germany, The Netherlands , Belgium and UK there are lots of Carhart shops and ordering them online is not a problem. I wear Carhartt (and sometimes WIP) since the 90s.
I don't think I would buy any WIP items .Carhartt makes t shirts for $20.00 with graphic designs.I hate the pockets on the wip shirt jacket especially the mismatched upper pockets. The drawstring on the leg of the cargo pants seems like a trip hazard and I'd rather wear a belt than have those buckles on the waist. Also if you use the pockets a lot the velcro flaps reattach automatically while you have to snap the snaps .The legs are so tight on the last pair of pants you can't wear cowboy boots. Also Carhartt makes ripstop cargo pants.
Carhartt's own Ripstop pants are way more durable than their WIP counterparts. I own(ed) both through the years and the WIP's were basically gone within a year of active wearing. The originals though? I have some that are more than 10 years old now!
Hey, thinking of picking up the aviation pants. What height are you may I ask? I am about 5"4 and a half to 5"5 (short af). Wanted to pick up the pants but I don't know if 30 will look too baggy on me or not. I wanted 28 size but they do not offer it sadly.
It is better if u bought the Carhartt Chore coat than the Ripstop workwear jacket. WIP michigan is a type of chore coat from Carhartt. I've been collecting these two brands. And for me, both brands are worth it in any terms. Carhartt workwear offers us the best quality garments that is durable and affordable. Both brands are incomparable because they are in different world, the one is to workwear, WIP is to STREETWEAR which we understand that streetwear is always expensive for some reasons. You guys haven't seen Carhartt WIP's nice streetwear products that is literally top of the line if we talk abt it.
Of course the original Carhartt BECAME a favourite on 'street level' because of the sturdy quality. WIP is in many cases watered down and on top of that way more expensive (cargo pants for example a way lesser quality). So that's a bit ironic. 'Streetwear' is mostly a farce nowadays.
I think people sleep on getting their clothes tailored. It’s still cheaper even after is said an done. I just don’t like how big the collars are on the regular carhartt
So, in conclusion… WIP is designed for style which is why it costs more and the regular Carhartt is designed to get beat up while you work. Wow! You don’t say!
65$??? Lol, where did you overpayed for this, in reseller Store? Standard prices for WIP graphic tees is 39-45€ in Official online Store. Which is around 45-50$. Also, most of them is reduced in few months/weeks.
The reason why Carhartt Wip is so much more expensive than regular Carhartt is because of what C Wip is built for. These two categories are built for fundamentally different activites. Regular Carhartt is built for someone who is going to be wearing the clothing while doing long, hard manual labor, day in and day out, for years. We're talking 12+ hours of construction, working in a steel plant, mechanics, lifting up and carrying heavy abrasive material, outdoor work in the rain and mud and snow and harsh elements etc. So regular Carhartt builds their clothing to last during this kind of heavy manual work. Carhartt Wip on the other hand is built for vastly different activities. We are talking about things like ordering lattes, drinking espresso, maybe ordering some expensive freshly pressed wheatgrass. Maybe even walking for 1/2 of a mile down the street to order the latte or wheatgrass. Or walking around a used vintage bookstore for an hour or two. So because of this, Carhartt Wip must be constructed with much nicer and stronger materials to last for these kinds of extremely difficult activities. Regular Carhartt clothing just breaks down RAPIDLY whenever someone tries to order a latte while wearing it. If you wear regular Carhartt, and you order a latte, AND drink the latte, you might only get 3-4 lattes before your regular Carhartt shirt is COMPLETELY worn down and demolished. That's why Carhartt Wip is so much more expensive than the regular. Regular Carhartt just doesn't last when engaging in the harsh, brutal activities of ordering lattes and drinking fresh-pressed kale juice.
or.. carhartt whip, just like dickies, has a side demographic of skaters who like the baggier fit and companies capitalize off of it more because a community over the whole world are more willing to pay than american construction workers
@@dekuscrubbed1411 I don't think so in regards to skaters, most skaters don't pay that much for clothing. I grew up skating all day every day thats not the scene
Having worn Carhartt and Carhartt WIP since the 90s I can safely say that yes WIP is basically a rip-off like many (street) brands. I had a lot of WIP through the years mainly because I thought it was actually 'real' Carhartt and being unpleasantly surprised the garments were of lesser quality (although more expensive). This was especially when it came to things like cargo and work pants. The original Carhartt pants are way more sturdy. The fact that WIP is even more expensive is criminal. I'm an illustrator and graphics designer myself, and trust me these designs on shirts or not very hard or time consuming to design at all to justify the much higher price. The only reason for the higher price is simply because they know they can sucker in idiots like myself into buying it regardless. When it comes to fit and sizes: Carhartt L/ XL is more or less WIP XXL in many cases.
Great video and details. Literally this is the perfect way to do a review video, except I was disappointed in the items you were comparing. I came across your video because I was hoping to see if buying the regular carhartt pocket tee $17 vs the WIP pocket tee $38 that look exactly the same. Some of the items in the video weren’t comparable at all. But definitely going to subscribe, because I really like how you structure your content.
Appreciate that brother! I was also bummed because the WIP pocket tee was sold out when I was buying items to make this video. If it help, the WIP pocket tee material is the same as the one I show in this video so expect a smooth and soft fabric. For the fit, I'm confident that it is slimmer that the carhartt k87.
Carhartt is to work in and Carhartt Wip is for Mooks!! These are clothes are durable and are classic workwear NOT fashion! It’s pretty lame if you wear it to just try to look cool in. The classics look amazing but are durable will last so long and the wip is way more expensive and won’t!
He should’ve bought the actual canvas jacket, that rip stop fabric isn’t comparable to a canvas style jacket, like come on carhartt is known for duck and you got the gimmicky fabric option lol
Also you make another manipulations - You compare basic stuff from workwear with printed stuff from WIP. Graphic stuff in WIP always have a bigger prices.
Good point, everything was sold out during the time I was making this video so these were the only items I was able to get my hands on. Hoodies I found to still be in the $100 range even with sales so I'm not far off with the hoodie. I admit for the tee, they had basic pocket WIP tees for around $45 but none in my size.
Carhartt oldschool workwear is good prices, good quality and lasts long, made for use tear and wear, the wip is overpriced, shitty quality and it goes on.... I paid 120 dollars for a oldschool brandene Carhartt Bartlett winter jacket. The real deal.
The logos are on the sleeve so you can still see it when you have bib overalls on Those ripstop pants won't last nearly as long as the cargo khakis. Those side pockets on the pants are for a utility knife or similar tool. Well made video but it's pretty obvious your line of work isn't the target demographic Carhartt is aiming for 🤣
@@MensFashionFiles I understand, but the difference i huge. My Wip active jacket 2xl is like a something between M and L in "normal" Carhartt. I really wish they made 3 and 4xxl.
European sizes mostly. An 'American' size M is a European size XL roughly@@ibizajunkieWith Carhart vs WIP in my experience WIP is one size down form Carhartt.
