Are the high keys, all the way to the right, are they supposed to be heavily quiet? Compared to the bass side. The bass seems so much louder. Is that a keyboard problem or how the piano just is???

My opinion, the p45 is not worth the price point. Korg B2 is a much better option, there's also a Roland around the same price point that is really good, but the p45 is not one I would go for.

This video is over a year old and I am kind of late to comment but thank you for this review. It seems like an ideal candidate for my shopping list looking for my first digital piano. Enough realism and feel if I ever decide to transfer over to a traditional piano and not too many features to overpay for and distract me as a beginner.

This is an excellent digital piano with all the features, design, quality, and affordable, exactly what you stated for those you mentioned. Casio & Yamaha make great, affordable keyboards with different features for various needs. And all the other keyboards linked in your video description are also great for their various intended uses. If I needed a main keyboard, with 88 keys and such, and was on a budget, this would be great. But I am not a beginning or formally trained piano student, and don't have much room for it, don't need the weighted action at this time, but could use the range of at least a 76 key keyboard. But, my Roland Go:Keys serves the purpose of what I wanted and needed it for, the the Casio CT-S1 I plan to get soon fits my other needs and wants at this time. I can always use the church Casio CDP-S350 at church during off times if I need it. Casio has a nice slim profikle design for most of their keyboards, and this one has the options clearly printed on it to negate the need for an LCD display others could really use. This digital piano is great to have the real USB interface connector, instead of the standard USB-A or worse, micro USB connector interface. The Roland RD 88 is almost as slim in design, albeit over twice the price, but it has all the features anyone could want. Just the mere fact that there are so many choices available to cater to our specific needs, desires, and budget is great. I'm still amazed at what they can do for the price compared to what has been available the last 40 years. From the $100 Yamaha PSS-A50, the Reface CP, YC, DX & CS, Casio CT-S1, My Roland Go:Keys and JD-Xi, the RD 88 and V Combo VR-09B and all the others. Especially the 61 to 88 key versions to cover the main acoustic piano, electric piano and other popular voices and features at affordable prices and levels for difference needs. I applaud all those responsible for conceiving, designing, creating and manufacturing all of these instruments. I stated long ago how advancement of portable electronic keyboard impacted our music subculture to facilitate learning enjoy playing and all the technical advancements and advantages over solely heavy, traditional accoustic instruments. Not if only we could absorb and be infused with divine musical giftings. But I guess that's why God created great music and piano teachers.

I guess the most important point of the gram weight experiment is to ensure that that weights on the black and white keys are the same. In my opinion this is a basic requirement that applies to any velocity sensitive keyboard actions, including the semi-weighted ones. Any keyboard that fails to meet this requirement is a fundamentally flawed product.
@IsisofDurnham
@IsisofDurnham 2 года назад
it's a very important thing I think . If the keys are not the same weight you also learn to play wrongly .It actually messes up your technique from the start .
@Zoco101
@Zoco101 2 года назад
Young Geng: You have a point, but it's not quite that simple either. And actually, I think you're mainly referring to other Casio products, which have been the subject of hot online debate in recent times. Where you place the weight matters. On keyboards with full length sticks, the key response is fairly even across the the whole exposed part of each stick, and so the testing weight is simply placed on the front end. Perhaps that's not an ideal test for any piano keyboard, but it's always been done that way I believe. But on the newer, shorter keysticks this is not an appropriate test. Where do you struggle the most to play short black keys? It's the centre or back of the exposed part of the stick, with your long third and fourth fingers - fingers which are typically less agile too. Sadly, that's where the toughest resistence is on a typical slimline action and some customers like myself have been discouraged from purchasing the most slimline pianos because of this issue. Slimline pianos can never deliver the best actions (not so long as the keys pivot) so it makes sense to measure and adjust the resistence at that most awkward point I just mentioned. It seems that recently, Casio took a bold step and measured/adjusted the resistance (on certain models) from the point I have mentioned. Whether Casio got it right, I don't know, but it's an issue of clever prioritising that a certain young reviewer totally failed to appreciate. That's why we've had all this heated debate on RU-vid. A far more important issue is whether the keys are weighted at all. For many students, a sprung action is just not good enough. If Jeremy says that a sprung action is OK or better for some young fingers, then I daresay he's right, since he teaches much more than I do, but we know that there are many students who need better actions. On that subject, we should remember that there are still a lot of dreadful cheap/free uprights around with feeble sound and terrible actions. They have been overtaken by digital technology delivering instruments with better sound and action at less than a third of the original upright piano price. Few of those uprights are built now, thank heavens. Upright manufacturers are now focusing on the higher end, and selling plenty too, I'm glad to say.
@ravenrush7336
@ravenrush7336 2 года назад
@@Zoco101 Thanks for the informative replay. While I agree with you that any short pivot action is essentially a compromise, I still believe that the more reasonable design is to ensure the weight to be the same at the front part of the white and black keys. When I play the black keys, I usually try to press on the front part when possible, so I use the back part of the black keys way less often. Hence I believe it is better to calibrate the weight for the normal case rather than the unusual case. As for difficulty of pressing the keys, the actions of these digital pianos are already much lighter than those on acoustic ones, so I never find them hard to press. As for weighted vs semi-weighted keys, I think it is not necessarily true that one is better than another. From my limited experience in playing keyboard, weighted actions provide better velocity control so it is better suited for sounds that require precise dynamics control like piano. Semi-weighted keys make it easy to play fast so it is best for sounds like synth lead.

@oooBASTIooo
@oooBASTIooo 2 года назад
@@Zoco101 But it still is something that should be properly addressed in a video about a keyboard, shouldn't it? In my opinion the slimline action is flawed if it means that the downweights differ massively on the same key, depending on where you push it. After all, you would have to readjust how much you push down every time you play a key in a different place.

Piano, Pipe Organ and Harpsicords tones still are ahead in authenticity compared to Yamaha's Piagerro, for example, not mentioning fully weighted keyboard pianos. I would buy Casio long time ago if I did not hear how Yamaha's pianos, organs and harpsicords sound - full, realistic, authentic, causing goose bumps with every key pressed.

Guys, I have to be honest. I don't want to ruin anyone's opinion, but as a Casio digital piano owner, it worths definitely the price. Trust me. I owned a Yamaha PSR-E363 and its sound was way more beautiful instead of my Casio CDP-230R that I own right now. It's only 1-2-3 hundred more pounds which might sound a lot in the beginning, but sometimes I just don't want to play the piano because its poor and plasticy sound... I play the piano and I also play on synth, my Casio can't handle both of them at a "friendly" price.

Hi Jeremy I`m an avid follower of your channel and piano enthusiast. I had a question. If Casio developed it`s Privia PX-S1100 that appears to be superior to the CDP-160, why hasn`t it replaced it? Is it because the CDP-160 is geared towards a more budget friendly market? I currently own a Yamaha P-45 and at come point will like to upgrade to a Casio. Cheers and please keep making more awesome review videos!

I sent a email to Casio, here's what they said about the differences. 1. Piano sound improvement. The CDP-S160 has a more natural and expressive piano tone than the S150 2. Compatibility with the CD-470P stand- This matching wooden stand is similar to the currently available CS-46, but it also includes a crossbar with three pedals fixed in place as they would be on a traditional acoustic grand. This gives it greater appeal to classical and jazz players who need that pedal functionality and would like the immediate familiarity of the pedals right where they expect them.

Beginner question. Best one to begin with: Casio CDP-S160 or Roland FP10? My uncle has both and offered me one. He says Casio is "easier" to begin but Roland is better overall. He mentions the weight of the keys. I can't tell. Is the weight of Casio's key so soft I would prefer it over the Roland? The specs of Roland are amazing. I wish I could keep them both. Haha

Hello and have a good year. I have a problem with my Casio CT-S300 keyboard. When I connect the headphone jack it doesn't sound good. However when I slightly pull it out it makes a good connection. What is the root of this problem and how could I solve it? Is just my keyboard problematic? Thank you.
