Not even being dramatic, but Cobham is Chelsea's superpower. Producing the most Prem-ready players in England, unicorn profiles like James, Champions League winners, etc. Even if they weren't ready, it was a sure set way of selling players for profit. I hope they've made the right decision...

Cobham has produced one superstar into the first team since JT in James, potentially Levi. It failed to graduate Olise and couldn’t create the right pull to keep Musiala. The rest have been sellable talents. It’s good but needs to be better.

My guy Nini I was about to burn this place down based on your twitter reaction lol but thanks for being level headed. I will admit that I like to look at the positives in every situation. With regards to Neil and Jim, they have been at the club for over 30 years!!! They would have left eventually regardless of the timing. I saw reports somewhere that Newcastle are looking to hire the both of them. The owners have come in with a different model using data and technology and also presenting a new face of the project. It's only fair that Neil and Jim decided to leave the club. They were once the face of Chobham, but now everyone at the club is screaming Joe Shields etc. I think the owners know what they are doing, they didn't become millionaires overnight. I also feel like the trophies we won under Roman is taking away from how poorly we were run behind the scenes and that's why the last time we won the league was in 2017. The project is only 24 months old and we can even see ManU literally copying our model. First year under the new ownership we finished 12th, Second year we finished 6th. I know this isn't where Chelsea belong on the table but that is progress to me. We as fans just need to temper expectations and enjoy the pain. We have amazing players in the first team and academy. I think the Academy will be fine moving forward. Once we finalize the whole club network model, we will be the best in England and I not even joking. If we can get all levels playing the same brand of football like you said, hopefully it becomes easier to identify talents that will fit into the first team right away and let go of players sooner who do not fit. I feel this is why only generational talents like Reece, JT and Levi have been the exceptions. Thanks for always taking out time to put out content. And please take care of yourself. A lot of us need you haha

If we are being honest about this, we are handing the academy to Joe Shields and Sam Jewel who are renowned for youth development and some ppl are upset? Look no one can tell the future but if u tell me we are replacing Neil and Jim with ppl who are equal or better, what’s with all the fake outrage then?🤷🏾‍♂️🤣….Isnt City’s academy better than ours rn? A next thing we have to admit when it comes to academy players and big teams. No trophy winning team in the top leagues have a lot of academy graduates. Probably 3 the most and only 1 may start every match I think for the last 5 years Chelsea has done very well with academy players transitioning to the first team.

These owners are doing way too much at once mann.. You gotta grow into your potential, take time to accumulate & adjust. Give the players & staff time to gel & grow together. Also the passing of the Paton from experienced players to the youth should've been a bit more timed. Only time will tell where these owners lead us.

I've know doubt their departure got more than a gentle push. It tells you that they have little interest in the academy. Prefaring to flood us with continental kids that will make a profit. Its a worrying scenario. More departures to come I reqon. We are scaring elite coaches and players away with the wage structures for this so-called model. Champions lge is a must next season.

On a positive Joe Shields is one on of the few people I respect in the new hierarchy. As for Jim and Neil leaving...well let's just hope it goes well. But we no longer have anything to base our expectations of achieving, any top of league, challenging for champions league or getting silverware on. Its all now on Clearlake. And so far... Its an exciting future but the present has been pretty dreadful. We can't forget that Ambramovich wasn't a sustainable business model. He just was a billionaire ( a very sus one) who spent outrageous money on our club and broke the game. I am a positive person but I'm really finding it hard to defend Chelsea. We used to have players like Ngolo Kante, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and the list goes on.... as for now we have ....hope? That these young talented players are going to explode. The main issue i have is other teams are doing it right. Building for the future and adding world class talent. Other clubs aren't going to dissappear they're going to get better too and aren't going to step aside when we get 19 year old wonder kids. I remember VVD absolutely schooling Jackson and it shows what happens when you put talent kids versus world class adults. I'll leave it here Ktbffh.

Jackson held his own 2/3 times he went up against LFC back line…Joe Shields was instrumental in building one of the best academies (better than ours btw) in the world rn…Sam Jewell is one of the few ppl in world football known to have ties in different continents and bring in players who ppl wouldn’t know but see their true potential (Bissouma, Caicedo, Miriam, Mac Allister, etc). The academy will be fine, if not improved. The Chelsea you remember actually resembles the one that’s being rebuilt. It’s the managerial hires that have stunted our growth…if we get that right we will be back to winning again…but the squad will win soon and I have no doubt about it, regardless of how I dislike our Directors and Egbahli 🤷🏾‍♂️…I trust the players we will field this season

There a valid concerns about the academy. However, I don't think players and players will be deterred by the current circumstances. What's most important is that the club starts winning titles again, building that world class stadium, and reestablishing itself as an elite European power in football.

Very well said Niinii, i couldn't agree more. Change is a constant, it's inevitable, however it's how it's done. I've often wondered how parents must feel knowing their kids will probably never get a fair chance of playing for Chelsea if they come through our academy, that the preference will be some under 18 from South America. Imagine being treated like a transactionable commodity. I'm a parent, it's not a good impression of what we're about.

These change remind me of the hype surrounding crypto. A lot of excitement, but many who actually know about football can see this won’t work. We can’t keep our wage structure like this, we can’t keep investing in youth without experience, we can’t keep ignoring our academy players, we can’t keep switching managers, players and staff like it is a fifa game, and the list goes on. When we do worse next season people will start to open their eyes

Given the fact that Chelsea's owners have been forward about selling some of CFC Academy products, it does make you wonder if the Academy is high on the owners priority list. I believe that the owners, since taking over the club, have tried to implement an American Football strategy, whereby Grid Iron Teams have drafts where they choose from the best College players, not Academy's. This is reflected in buying the top (already developed) youngsters from elswhere around the world, rather than developing our own. Neil Bath is just being polite in his reasons for going, and realises what's going down.

Chelsea needs to have four or five berths that pay big wages. Then we can bring the odd player in, outside of the wage structure. If a youth team player does well consistently, he takes one of the top spots and the player he replaces either gets sold on or he takes a wage cut.

Good take Nini. People are too negative and reactionary these days, especially under the new owners. As someone said in the comments, the trophies under Roman masked the dysfunction behind the scenes. We produced good talent but the playing philosophy did not align with the youth and senior teams. That is why, for the longest time, we didn’t see our youth integrated into the senior team. What the club are doing now is trying to build up the academy but also develop the same philosophy at both set ups so we can see a smoother passage of players from the youth ranks to the senior teams. Let’s hope this works. We should be hopeful for the future.

I think that it was about time to move on. One thing I’ve realized is the goal is to streamline the different teams using 433 lineups from academy to loan clubs to first team. We’d create great talent from Cobham often times that can’t play in our formation in the first team. I also think for some time we’ve been losing quality to develop winners in the academy side now losing to the likes of City and Brighton. I believe it was long overdue for changes but we stuck too long in the memory of what once was to see what is happening.

Trouble with this model is it's a huge gamble. Which may or may not pay-off. This model may get the odd trophy but it will not achieve the same success as before. More sustainable but less productive. The issue is if we can't beat Arsenal to a left footed defender because of wages we really do have a problem. Which will get worse and let's be fair we aren't going to win things if Arsenal have a better team than us.

To me it looked like there was always going to be a power imbalance between the academy directors and the sporting directors. None of the sporting directors were going to get any kudos if Rio Ngumoha suddenly made all their expensive imports look like money down the drain. Or how Conor Gallagher made Enzo look like he was worth 30 million quid tops.

@@keshianfrancis4845 our recruitment has not been good.. far from it actually, nearly 1BN and we have literally nothing to show for it, we have the highest net spend in the league.. none of our signing actually moved the needle or closed the gap! We are far far far away from anything close to what Chelsea of yesteryear has built towards… The fact that we finished 5th says a lot about the premier league.

you use the word etc to your advantage a lot huh but you can’t call Disasi a squad player he had the second most minutes in the squad if that changes then cool, Cucu as it stands is our starting lb, if that changes cool. Ugo is a 20 something mill youth project, not a so called “expensive squad player”. And when most of these parents signed up for Chelsea when their kids were 8/10 years old we were buying Drinkwaters and Mbuyambas squad players, young players all of the above. If anything the situation has changed yes but slightly better in terms of pathway from when they initially signed. Unless it was always their intention to leave Chelsea once their child benefitted from the club’s facilities. And last but not least Neil Bath himself was the one who bought the Casadei’s and the likes.
