So unless you have been living under a rock for the past year - you might have realised that the tech industry is going through a bit of a tough time.
Layoffs have been at tecord levels, prompting many people to ask: is coding still a food career.
While it’s essy to see the headlines and to get emotional, it is very important to stay rational, and look at the big picture.
So I’ve done a lot of research into this - I have observed the arguments from the doomsayers as well as the optimists - and as always, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Thanks Tuomas for this inspirational video. I’m only beginning to learn coding (python) to try and change my career to make more money and seeing all this negative news about layoffs and AI taking over can indeed make it seem like pursuing this might be a bad idea. But I know it’s best to simply block out all the FUD and stay on track. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more of your content.

Hard fact :- Companies hardly cut CEO's salary. Not even when they are in loss.

The essence of programming lies in enabling computers to automate tasks that would otherwise require manual effort. While the time required to solve a problem through programming may vary, once the solution is implemented and all desired features are integrated, the coder's role often shifts to providing user support and addressing security concerns. Furthermore, for many problems, there already exist standardized software solutions.

I'm looking at getting a career in software development. Thankfully I work in a company where there are opportunities in this field. While I work as a data analyst currently, software development is still a career worth pursuing in my opinion. But then again, so is the field of data analysis and data science. So happy to go down either path thus. It's important particularly now. Considering that here in the UK, there's a lot of people being made redundant due to the aftermath of the pandemic and now the current cost of living crisis. I will be one of those people being made redundant in 2026. So I want to plan ahead now two years in advance for my next step. Whether that's staying in the company I'm in, which is the better option. Or finding another business to work for. An excellent and informative video nonetheless though! 🙂👏

Hi Tuomas, I have been watching your videos for the past 7 months and more than that, really i like your content and you provided amazing information. I am 19 years old from India. I was doing a bachelor of computer applications and it was a 3-year technical course in 1st year I learned c and C++ first semester built a calculator with no real-world skills, and then learned another language with the same project earlier. now we see a recession and colleges are asking for more high charged fees with fake guarantees. I was very frustrated as I was not learning real-world skills so I dropped out of college and now I watched this video. So Tuomas, I saw the course career curriculum, and it's really good. it means a lot if you can tell that can i get a remote job after completing their course by staying in India.

If you've mastered codeing before the Ai boom then you are fine ...however if you are learning to code now to get a job ..it will be very very tough to beat Ai .

You are 100% telling the truth. I work for a company with thousands of employees and until this day I don't know what any of them look like except from their LinkedIn profile. 😂 but the job is so chill.😎

In few years, developers will be able to do the job of three or four with the help of ai. Companies will hire only the higher profiles with a master and 15 years of experience. I think, it is now the last generation of young people studying programming. Outside physical jobs, the jobs that won't be replaced are the one that require social interactions.

THOSE ARE THE DOWNSIDES? Hah! I like me boring job with no social life, at least I'd still be able to do other things. Try doing more high paced jobs, it drains your energy and you won't be able to do anything for the rest of the day.

Let the doomsday talk weed out your competition. The "everyone should learn to code! make 6 figures in 3 months!" mindset was a huge factor for the oversaturation and layoffs in the market. If you love coding, prove it and you will find your place here.

this is dumb advice. i didnt love being an electrician and it got me a ton of things in life.
@travis8106
@travis8106 Месяц назад
@@YungBapacito The trades need electricians. In the trades, things don't advance as rapidly, so once you know what you're doing, you don't have to constantly learn new shit to keep up. Software engineering is different, it is very competitive and rapidly evolving. If you aren't constantly keeping up with changes in the industry and going above and beyond to grow (which often your at work tasks do not allow) then you will be replaced. So yes, you have to love it. Or be miserable, your choice.

Within 5 years coding will be dead. These people aren't really programmers anyway just (AIW) Application Instruction Writers - so its easy for AI to do their job.

5 years is even too optimistic. In two years a developer will be able to do the job of three or four developers with the help of AI. Unless if you have a master and 15 years of experience, you won't find any job as a developer in few years. Most of the jobs ads already ask for a master and more than 10 years of experience.
