I agree with Relic choice to not make Italian faction. Italian Regio Esercito was not capable and not an autonomous fighting forces, it fought surprisingly well in Africa under German command and supported by DAK. In Italian campaign Italian army ceased to exist, totally captured by Germans after the armistice. However many Italian troops are playable with DAK, actually M13/40 and Bersaglieri are nice units. I'm disappointed by Semovente 75/18, the real "star" of Italian armoured forces.
@@danielegiuntini8844 there are tons of units to add into an Italian Faction, even as axis or allies side, which would be a neat gimmick IMO. Things like the Autoblinda, the L3 series, the P26/40, all the spicy Semoventes like the 75/34 du scafo M42 or the M43 Bassotto one, and so on.
As if you could even make an Italian faction?! All they'd do is roll up their sleeves, grab their bedsheets tie it to a flag pole and surrender en masse. You are a disgrace.
@@danielegiuntini8844 It's misleading to assume the Italians fought well because of the Germans. The forces that arrived (just before Rommel) were MUCH better equipped and a different fighting force (proven by the Ariete at Bir el Gubi) altogether from the ones captured during Compass. Saying the RIA was not capable also means nothing for a video game. The Italians at least have a variety of equipment while being visually distinct that still make them a viable force on their own, especially when compared to any of the other Axis armies. Battlegroup Italians make more sense as the RSI under the Germans in Italy over the ones in Africa. Heck, DaK would make more sense as a battlegroup for Italian forces in North Africa.
@@hth54 give him a brain bud. He wasn't there for COH2 and even then I came when it was free for the first time never the less I def sense it wasn't this good at the beginning.
The Italian HMG "bunker" is wrong in many ways, is modelled after the german Panzernest, but for some reason the gunner shoot out from the back of the turret (the og entrance), and because is a concrete bunker for some reason, the door face the enemy, so overall is a panzernest mounted over a small concrete bunker with the back facing the enemy
Maybe they just googled it because there are some pictures oft the Panzernest where you can see the backside of it and there is also a hole above the door.^^ I still laugh at it when playing DAK because it looks so fuckin' stupid and makes no sense at all.
Idk man it seems the developers didn't even put enough effort on researching / just basic Wikipedia scrolling. That bunker placement is so ridiculous not even COH2 & COH1 made such mistake.
finally someone that present the problem in quick and simple manner and not just ranting and ambigously pointing out problems, indeed the most dissapointing is sound design, feels like A.I did it, while previous CoH got this "Unique" feeling for it
No COH game will ever compete with with Coh2's soudtrack, so unique, so thematic The vehicle deaths I noticed as well, an absolutely MASSIVE downgrade. The old voice lines were better too. More personality, and again better theming between each faction
imagine someone who played COH like me, the feeling of getting shit on with some old features just to hook up our interest (like battlegroups that a so nice and not grind to win since you had all from start)
Even the idle animation of COH3 looks.. plain? No animation at all. Compared to COH1 with 2007 graphic/hardware restrictions! So many wrong things to point out. COH2 seems superior for now.
Amazing detailed video! I'm glad I didn't pre order the game and I'm still waiting for it to get polish or price down .. paying $60 or more for a rushed game feels bad I have more than 2000 hours in COH2
i made up a gamemode (i dont have any modding experience) called Base Defending or something along the lines, but i dont have enough friends that own CoH2 and the Ai is too retarded to raid the base. sad :(
As a person with 4000 hours in COH2 I don't fell any appeal for this new game,it do not hooked me as the previous ones. To cartonish, to mobile style. Anyone noticed that in some cases are five information icons over each unit? To many colored information breaking the game immersion, the units are barley noticed in the map etc. I didn't like it.
you know for some reason, the 2006 Coh1 release is superior to this. sure the infantry AI still looks dumb but Coh1 Infantry actually automatically finds cover when under fire, which is truly kinda useful when you the player are still busy flanking enemies. the tank hit animation and is on spot too. although the CoH2 vehicles' death is actually amazing, there is ammo exploded animation, there is just an instant explosion and there is the crew knocked out but the vehicle is still operatable just badly damaged.
It's amazing that AI issues that have plagued Relic games literally since 2008 and DOW2 (ie. computers obsessing over bizarre backcapping rather than fighting, not understanding how suppression or cover works, etc.) still plague them a decade and a half later.
Personally I think the Italy campaign is a slap in the face, I bought the game because i enjoy rts games. I would like to play rts not a turn based grand strategy with social aspects. I'd love to actually play in the Italian front, not watch tiles explode on a map of Italy. However, the north Afrika campaign was extremally fun with good challenge and wonderful story telling outside of those lazy cutscenes. Also walking stuka launcher sounds make me happy
Company of heroes 2 was so good that i forgot about coh1 which was gold by itself. Yes, the story mode received a lot of rightful criticisms from russian players due to the unfair portrayal of Soviet Union in ww2. But the theater of war missions were so challenging and fun that i kept playing them. Not to mention the extremely solid multiplayer mode which was extremely fun and epic. I like the expansions too.
I tried COH3 after coming back from a long break from COH 2, by playing Wargame RD, and Broken Arrow's demo instead, and although I can see how COH3 has grown/developed the work by COH2, for me I am having trouble going back since I find myself missing the larger scale of battles and maps, and the depth of combined arms warfare. That and I miss all the ATGMs, except for maglans, screw maglans.
The problem is that, they really haven't done much in terms of getting better on the core gameplay loop of Coh. Company of Heroes 1 launched with such an UTTERLY COMPELLING core gameplay loop (Holy shit! Base building RTS with realistic, somewhat gritty unit tactics!), that they would have to actively try to make it unfun. This has remained unchanged so far (Thank god), so all the original core fun gameplay loop hasn't changed yet. People keep giving it good ratings for stuff that was already in Coh1 and Coh2 (and before REDDITORS go: "W-well go play those then!"), no, the point is that Coh3 was supposed to represent an evolution in the game. Breach fucking sucks as an idea, most people just throw grenades instead, the singleplayer Italian campaign is TEDIOUS to play, and the AfrikaKorps campaign is mediocre.
The “charring” is ridiculously looking 🤣🤣. COH 1 way was much more fitting and “realistic”. Also Helping Hand also noted the “bullet holes/scratches” on the vehicles are just painted on top of the armor…
This game has potential, but its kinda unfinished and unpolished. For example I like the idea of weathering very much, but its so over the top at this point that its ridiculous. Your vehicles turn fully into a black charcoal from even one explosion... Like, I know its a new feature, but come on, we will notice it without being so dramatic... Also no italian faction in a game about the North African and Italian theatres, but we got 2 german ones... Why is the Afrika Korps a separate faction? Why not a single Wehrmacht, with a desert and a european skin? Also why does everyone sounds like a cartoon villain in the Wehrmacht? I thought we got over that stupid idea in COH 2...
Ever take a really hard hit squarely to the chest while unaware? Can confirm it gives critical dmg for up to two months, a hit to the chest and got backpains doing pushups or pullups. Engine dmg is real :')
Holy moly, that music change from COH3 to COH2 gave me goosebumps. I didn't think the COH3 music was so bad, until the comparison... once again, holy shit.
I think for me CoH3's OST is definitely more on the generic side. CoH2 has the best overall of the 3 games for not only sounding great but for having a distinct leitmotif and musical identity. CoH1 is a bit on the weaker generic side as well, but there were definitely a few standout tracks there too.
@@roys.1889 Generic and and weak? Maybe actually play CoH1, that game used orchestral music and instruments based on each countries orchestral flare, each faction has it's particular unique music with completely different instruments for each faction, game is filled with details like that while CoH2 ignores most plenty of them to rush out more content. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1nIogXo3sS8.html&ab_channel=Anarkyfox
The Nostalgic music of COH2 hits harder than COH3. It's just like the Lobby music paints what the soldiers, and citizens felt powerless seeing the destruction from their eyes and a crippling fear of seeing their enemy marching with their terrifying arms and tanks on the streets. COH2 Music hits different than COH3.
As a person who has well over 12K hours on COH1 and 2, your review has helped make up my mind and it’s very helpful and honest.. From your review my worst fear has come true and this game certainly looks like a cash grab, and not a game that had developers that actually cared, it’s all recycled and not even that well, it’s more like a rip off of COH made in a back alley. The fact they have access to all previous game assets and still screwed up makes me mad.
In fairness, your concerns on CoH3 were almost exactly the same ones that were voiced about CoH2 when it was released. If CoH2 can thrive, I see no reason that CoH3 couldn't. Of course it doesn't excuse the ridiculous price and how unfinished it came out but still.
I have all the previous games too and I find this version quite alright. I think it's a pretty good game. There is innovation similar to coh1 to coh2. But it is more a new game than a new level of tech. I find the community reaction highly overblown and surprising. But since there isn't a huge improvement nothing wrong with staying with the old games. with all the mods they have such rich content still.
I've been playing CoH since the very beginning and have all DLCs and expansions for both CoH 1 & 2. It's been a huge part of my childhood but sadly, i don't think i will be getting CoH 3 if it's in this state :(
I've been playing all versions as you have. For me this version is fine. I'm enjoying the game a lot. But I don't play ladder though. For competitive gamers it may still be bad.
If you played the beta, the state of coh3 launch shouldn't be a surprise. It had lackluster art direction and recycled assets. However, it is criminal that there is no vehicle crush and reconnect.
Great video Kettok ! I knew COH3 would be rough in the beginning but not THAT rough... I was going to wait before picking it up but now I think I'll wait at least a year or 2 before buying it. COH2 is still gold EDIT : finally bought the game but it's clearly not finished... Still fun though
i'd very honestly say that coh2 was by far the worst one from the series... (multiplayer - and apart from the music of course, I've played it as my final violin concerto, lul)
@@gerard518 Hello, because I have other games to play and then the dlcs for COH3 will come later. The game will be in a much better state than now and cheaper... Here are my reasons and they are absolutely not bizarre lmao
Now It's like CoH mobile on a PC I hope they will patch most of the problems soon, but dear god. Can we get the finished game on launch? Like hello? Why is this so common now?
Because people keep buying them... Look at CoD, every year is more unfinished and every year it does record sales. Look at Pokemon, worst release ever and broke every sale record there is (sold more copies in the first week than MW2).
After all the wait, what we have is just a new kind of game having the name of 'Company of Heroes 3", it's so sad to see a game that used to be my childhood being ruined by Relic's greed, and they also charge 60$ a game - seriously? I don't know what to say more, I just feel so empty when I first saw Coh3, the impression that Coh1 and Coh2 gave me no longer appear in Coh3
Feature wise the game looks like a step backwards. I miss being able to have units bail from the equipment or vehicle they are in, wether I need the crew for repairs or I want to swap the crew to engineers to get building out in the field faster
This is a very good summary, I will spread this video around thanks mate. I would add that: - support weapons Health bar is gone. Now you don't know know how much health your support weapon have unless you die and check then. - it's impossible to figure out what type of weapon is dropped on the ground. Unless you click on it - if you haven't finish building your catch and try to click on it again, there is no icon indicating building or fixing. Cursor stay the same. - building progress bars are very small and make it hard to figure out how long it will take to finish construction. - Base building animation compare to OKW from CoH2 is very cheap, sometimes non existing. - fixing units looks wierd - sometimes you get communication that your unit is lost, even if non of your unit die (make me loos few seconds looking for enemy where there is non)
I think a really important point is also that the modding tools we have are more limited than even coh2s, and relic has already said yeah what you have is what you have maybe down the road we'll add some more tools, but not for awhile.
You said $60 dollars USD I suppose. It's $134 dollars in my country and way to expensive for incomplete, broken software. The same with the enemy field guns, they will turn to face an infantry squad that is attacking them, but not fire at them only vehicles. Very disappointing game compared to it's previous games.
Not requiring engineers or "worker" units to construct buildings pushes the game towards Ancestors Legacy. And the campaign cutscenes being slightly animated drawings further proves that push.
4:23 - was the goddamn moment in CoH1 cinematic that had me ABSOLUTLY stunned. And I actually was very emotional, still am, about it. Such a sad moment, for a side that I had always seen as bad guys till those years.
"Well design missions" , what a funny phrase. The game is a total rip-off. There are no well designed missions in CoH3 . The German campaign is a disaster without a proper story ridiculing tactical genius Erwin Rommel and the Italian campaign? I have just finished it and 99% of battles are very boring skirmishes set on the same map all over agan. 1% of battles are campaign missions, yet again very boring. I broke the Winter line only to learn that Germans retreated from Rome so I don't have to conquer it and the game is over. I played on fearleess difficulty and it was a joke, zero AI or tactics from the enemy. I feel great remorse I can't refund it. I don't care about the future of this game as they should have launched the finished product, they didn't do that obviously laughing at players faces. The only happiness with CoH3 was when I uninstalled it. I can't believe they worked on it for 5 years.
COH3 is another shill cashgrab.... its like a sh*ty DLC for 2... the graphics are bad everything is almost the same, they just released the game game again with a few new maps and stuff for full price. disgusting.
Honestly i hate the " the game will be good in the future " argument . Why the game can't be good on day 1 with less glaring issue ? It is 10 years since CoH2 , they haven't learned any lesson that will improve the product on day 1 ??? Oh wait this is the new team Relic team...
It's so bad lol I'm still amazed that people are defending this £50 game! Yes 50 or $60 lol! What a joke. Got a refund immediately. Not being able to reconnect to games is absolutely horrendous for 2023 and no region locking servers.
I had to refund my CoH 3 purchase unfortunately. They released unfinished game that they probably hope to patch up in DLCs - and I don't want to wait and pay for stuff that should've been in the main game to begin with. Very shitty practice of game companies, which is a shame because I love CoH
I disagree, I myself prefer the coh2 UI to the more compact coh3 UI. Also the game needs need lots more patches and more time in the oven before I want to buy it
Same. Plus the developer seems put so much efforts on COH2 UI, more expensive. Even the unit icons? Digitally painted.. not just taken from its 3D model! And we can even see the unit historical info & its strength and weakness.
9:02 compared to 09:20 CoH3 tank floats on smoke, tank looks shit, explosion looks shit, sounds shit, stuka bomb looks like someone dropped a bit of lego CoH2 tank looks sick, terrain looks sick, explosion looks sick, sounds like I'm in the tank
Yeah pretty much what I expected. Never could get into CoH 2's clunky, slow combat after playing the Blitzkrieg Mod and the cartoony artstyle just doesn't do it for me. Also planes just disappearing instead of crashing is...why?
This video makes a good point I don't agree with everything but yeah, COH3 it's *NOT* a bad game, it's actually real fun to play The real problem is that Relacate (company) needs to fix the bugs and make the game actually playable rather than the shity in game shop, the game costs 60$, and you want me to spend even more money!?!?!?
At this patch level, IT'S STILL A BAD GAME in my personal opinion. Pretty unbalanced, too. And missing of so many useful features found in COH1 & COH2. I really hope they would choose to fix this game, not leaving it in such a crappy state. DOW3 still teaching how NOT to do.
Suprised that the change in gameplay wasn't a big topic of discussion here. Evertyhing in COH3 seems much less realistic and sort of arcade-like, similar to Dawn of War (wich was a very casual game, and not at all serious like COH1 was). I personally hate the change, COH1 was the best in terms of realismm COH2 was less realistic, but made up for it with added features. COH3 seems like DOW in WW2 which is a terrible combination. If I wanted to play a DOW-like game, I'd just play DOW. Now I'm spending most of my RTS time with the competition, the Men of War and Call to Arms games. They are sooooo much better.
Oh Relic, what happened to the studio that released masterpieces like Company of Heroes, and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade... I am hoping they "patch" this game, quick. Or this will be another flop like Dawn of War 3. Which had great trailer but crap gameplay for an RTS.
I miss the patriotic and energetic Panzer Elite announcer voice: "Kampfgruppe Lehr has shown it's superiority once again" "Ready for anything! Ready for victory!"
Lol. You're not very committal about your recommendation. I would say the game is worth USD$40 in it's current released state. If you do buy at full price, it's still ok if you loved CoH 2, as you'll get your money's worth as multiplayer is good enough to be fun despite the issues.
Honestly i cant believe the same devs that worked on CoH 1 and 2... worked on this one. Seriosly, this one looks like they handed the development to all the interns and trainees at company and decided to call it a day. It looks like a game from a small indie developer who just started making RTS, and if this were the case, it would still look bad even if they charged 20 dollars for it. I had played both previous CoH ever since the first one came out, and ive played a lot of hours in multiple steam accounts ( lost an old steam account etc... ) and this one is just pure garbage. Honestly there are so many things to be fixed that it would be better if they started all over again, or simply started adding new stuff to old CoH 2. actually, adding new stuff to old CoH 2 would've probably been a better idea... They are ruining their reputation with stupid decisions like this game, and it will probably be the death of the CoH franchise, wtf were they thinking ? The art style, the bugs... i mean jesus... havent they played their own games ?
It's a title bad in every way, not just worse than previous ones. Honestly too cartoonish, and only reason I can think of is either budget or trying to reach a wider audience by making this arcady
The game is pretty dam depressing thats for sure...played these games since forever...first time I turned it off after about 30 minutes...its awful. Who knows, maybe they will fix it. if feels like multiplayer competitive gaming is an after thought...it's lame and pathetic.
So bad game nothing like the past 2 games of the series, i literally don't understand how to play the campaign on the turn base map total waste of money very disappointed
Solid review. As someone who kinda loves the game nevertheless, I wholly agree tbh. Let's hope it will be patched and ironed out in the future. One can only hope, right.
i just hoped they added more nations and stuff later on like the CoH2 even though i disliked microtransactions. i didn't played the game yet but i have yet see the italian Tank Destroyer that is shown in the testing phase art
