The amount of comments I see that say they copied is wild. Some fans just think that their favorite game invented people holding grenades or guns, it’s just sad

people keep complaining about one game copying the other when in the end they are gonna be playing both because they'll get bored of one after three matches

The problem is not whether or not TDS copied, (they undoubtably did), it is the lack of credit that TDS gives to the original creators. John brushed over this a couple years ago in one of the videos he did regarding the debate. He mentioned that the tensions were high between Below and Plan3t because Plan3t simply wanted the recognition he deserved while Below refused to give credit. Also the arguments that BTD is the first tower defense game and all other tower defense games need to bow down to it is absolutely ludicrous. With this same style of thinking, one could say Space Invaders (look it up) is the first tower defense game. Then you could argue that Rampart (look it up) is the first tower defense game. Then you could follow the timeline to Gem Tower Defense, then Flash Element TD; The list goes on and on all the way to modern day tower defense games such as TDX, TDS, and BTD6. There were plenty more games both before and after BTD so the argument that it was the first is 100% invalid.

I'm not sure how related this is to the video, but I think it's worth pointing out that part of the reason TDS surpassed Tower Battles' popularity so easily, even with the blatant copying in the designs in the early days of TDS (which haven't strayed away extremely far), is because Planet hasn't really updated Tower Battles very often at all. People tend to jump on the "lazy" bandwagon when it comes to these sorts of developers for these games, but a handful of years ago planet mentioned the lack of updates/time for him to update being from a bunch of IRL stuff, at some point mentioning that he was double majoring engineering and psych at a university, and while time has passed since he brought that up (which makes me think he's finished with that now), I wouldn't put it past him to be focusing more on other personal stuff as well. He even mentioned that the success Tower Battles had was able to pay for his college tuition. (I think planet's also mentioned motivation being a big problem when it's come to updating tower battles, but I'm not 100% sure)

okay but with the armoured factory vs military base stuff you got to remember that military base was created first, and they officially leaked the rework first. don't even get me started on "oooh but they did the teaser 2 years ago" well with that logic, TDX copied because military base was released 5 years ago. ppl don't even take 10 seconds to learn the history of the 2 towers and they js look at one and say "yep that's a copy".

This "copying" thing is a really dumb idea, i am also making a TD game and taking inspirations from other games (Ultrakill mostly), people just hate a lot of the competition like TDS and TDX even tho we all know that the BTD franchise is the beggining of the popularity of the TD genre.

I'll be honest here, if you couldn't copy any ideas, then we would run out of games quickly

Theres 3 types of td games: - 1. Inspire and make something great - 2. MILK THE SH OUT OF A POPULAR THING - 3. Copy something but with a twist

Yes it is a bad thing. Below practically acts like the other games don’t exist, never giving any credit to them, this is mostly copying from tds, but even if you argue it’s inspiration they still should’ve given credit, but they don’t.

In fact, TDS copies, but now it takes existing things and does it in a different way, for example the mercenary base that has the same barracks system with several changes like the plane that brings the mercenaries, the riot that rushes and other things.

Copying is fine when the owner already knows but does not care. But these people are just fighting each other for no reason for tds copying tdx even tho john doesnt care much. But plan3t does when tds copied before... (All he wanted was recognition atleast)

I think we can all agree that everything is awesome and everything is cool when you're part of a team. So TDS and TDX should collab, then we would be living our dream

without copying, making something new is a mess, and mess gives you problems Good example: Hardcore mode at release 🙂

Tds main deal was the great events but today it is just reworking sim and when they copied tb they tried to overcome them by cheap diffirences while tdx added way more original things and collabed with tb

I don't support modern TD games on Roblox as much anymore specifically because of the copying from other games being so blatantly obvious. Old TDS was great, it was a breath of fresh air after Planet hadn't updated TB as much as before. Now it took on it's own style and new mechanics, but that doesn't make up for the "copying" of other game mechanics. For example, TDS has taken several ideas from TDX and TB seemingly without credit. Now who knows, Below might be in contact with John or Planet, but that doesn't excuse the several ideas taken from each game without credit. Aside from the similarities, I believe all 3 of these games are in it's own league. Yes, I might have just dogged on TDS for it's blatant stealing of ideas, but at least they're trying to step away from the original game mechanics that had been taken from Planet at first (ex. rebalancing towers and reworking them to work differently to the TB counterpart). That's very respectable.

Inspired is one thing, copying is something else. Copying i feel like is just stealing it. If you use a similar idea thats fine if you change it, but if you just take it then that's my issue.

TDX and TDS developers are just making same updates and release them at the same time to make community have WW3. and then they watch it happen. and they have fun.

tbh, its more of a inspirantion over a copy one another. Tds nuke only dose 50 K dmg while Tdx dose umm inf I guess??? And also fun fact CTD had perk and "power ups" since 2020 while people where angry at tds copying tdx with power ups. They aren't even the same thing, its more of a concept. Tdx dosen't have attack buff perk or tds don't really have rappid airstrike perk, people just keep looking for a way to make war. That's what make us human so normal??? From "is copying a bad thing" to "wich game has more children"

The concept of military warfare is nothing new, and both games would likely have some similarities with thier towers if they're based of it. We can agree a person with a gun have exist already. So playing one of these games, you can understand that this tower have this kind of role for example : Sniper, high damage, long range but slow firerate. And you can apply that to other (and many) game and don't have to relearn everything. They didn't willing to "copy", just didnt share things too distant from eachother.

In my perspective, yes tds did copy tb and tdx, they still should get somewhat punished for that but its not needed since they did use their own idea for the tower and made it differently than tdx, like they wont need to get punished for tdx but definitely tb since, they just straight up copied tb but overall I agree with your opinion (I swear to god, if tds makes an og update, and if tdx makes a similar one, then y'all tds people better not say "tdx is copying tds now!!!)

Tds, inspired from tb by alot, made a very similar game, tower battles in the other hand, stopped updating, which means its been dismissed, or known as discontinued, which stands for lower player base, tds though, is still ongoing, just like tdx, and I bet below and john are still friends and they added consumables around the same time, and the fact that the logos are similar, means they gotta still be friends, profiting from there games. I think games copying each other can lead to newer / more polished versions of the those games. TDS (before tdx), was TB but more further polished, and in a more childish style to appeal to a larger audience, which also let it grow bigger and ultimately becoming the better game.

theres a clear diffefence beetween copying and inspiration, copying is a 1 to 1 copy of the same thing while inspiration is making the concept of the thing u got inspired for but changing how it works, different from the original, tds is a 1 to 1 copy of tb and you cannot deny that, most of the stuff they have is taken from tb, theres nothing wrong with using their towers as long as they work differently and have a different design

Both games are good, isn't that obvious? TDS Got more cartoonish style, more UNIVERSAL to teenagers, children, and basically everyone, while TDX got more military, close to realism style, with not so like year 3000 plasma tank e.t.c. My personal thing, because i like weapons, armory e.t.c, i prefer tdx, but i play tds with friends, because it's good too, just badly optimized, that's all.
