Stardew's gameplay and content are hard to beat but I'm not a fan of pixel art (though I appreciate the artistry involved). So if this game is very similar with 3D graphic I'm def on board! I only have a Switch though so I probably won't get to play it for a long time 🤔
There is something to say about the difference in game play between 2d games like Stardew Valley and Factorio compared against 3D games like Dinkum and this new Coral Island. Repetitive actions such as farming in 2d games usually is much easier to do because of the lack of 3D elements. The character can interact with the world in straight lines holding down movement keys and action keys simultaneously, planting seeds, harvesting all easy to do in bulk. Most of the same actions in 3d games ends up being slow and clunky because the mechanics of the game requires the player to 1st select the object being altered, the plot on on the ground, the action taken, planting a seed, then moving on to the next plot all happen in several mini-actions. Dinkum's farming is good example of how it usually works in 3d games. Since 3D allows you to move in any direction it makes more difficult to do repetitive actions in straight lines. It gets even worse if you have to choose which seed to plant at each 3D stop! 2D games will work better than 3D when interacting with rows and columns of things like farms. Of course 3D will always look better, you can actually look behind buildings, trees and things. Stardew will probably remain the better farming game of the genre because it is 2D. It's a trade off between looks and functionality. In the case of Factorio the entire basis of the game is to interact with the factory pieces by running in straight lines doing things to items on the playing field. It literally couldn't be played if it were 3D. 3D developers might consider farming using an entire row of plants as a single entity instead of separate plants at each voxel, allowing the player to set the length of rows and then automatically aligning adjacent rows so the farm looks uniform. Give up the idea of working with one seed, one plant, one harvast altogether, do it all in rows like in actual gardens! There, I've said my bit. Hi Fuzz!
Don't get me wrong I really did like the game play I thought it was clean and very nice but as I played more and more of it I kept coming back to the thought that it was so similar to stardew valley that it wasn't worth playing tho I will say the graphics are quite different and the game play was fun but I mean the beginning cut scene is like a carbon copy of stardew that it borders on plagiarism imo
it depends on what features you hate in stardew valley. coral island is really similar in gameplay and story. i started to play coral in alpha and now in early access, but i would recommend to wait for the finished version. there is limited gameplay for now. :)
For an early access, I'd say to wait first. You'll "over" play this game easily, and then without new content coming for a while it just won't be fun. It's a great game, but I think it would be worth playing at full release!
I loved Stardew and have put over 400 hours into it. I'm now looking for something new and this looked like it might be good, unfortunately there's a 'pride' flag next to the town hall and you cannot remove it, so for that reason only, I'll never buy this. Can you recommend any other games like Stardew?
it's definitely not a "clone". It's a farming sim, and if this is a stardew valley clone then stardew is a harvest moon clone and then the entire genre is just clones of each other. Just enjoy the game, it's different enough
