This is best decision I made learning cubase, I have used fl studio for years but when it comes to mixing and mastering the way cubase gets it done fast it's just amazing,I also just learned how to produce beats in cubase, and I was blown away, Now am a full time cubase producer.❤❤❤❤❤
I was an Ableton user and also tried many DAW like Pro tools (for mixing) and FL troughout the years... I think switching to Cubase was the best decision of my life lmao , i'ts absolutly perfect for composing AND mixing
I've tested many daws over the years and i'm a Cubase User just since 2 weeks so still learning but holy is this daw easy to use and has a fantastic Workflow for so many situations (coming from Ableton, flstudio, logic, adobeaudition, reaper, studioone)
Cubase is the most slept on DAW of the 21st century. Ever since FL started to gain popularity in the late 10s, no one has been paying attention to it mainly because there's this perception that "it's old" But for 5 years or so, Cubase has been quietly kicking ass. And 13 is just a dream. All the things we've been asking for are now included, and so much more. Personally I have an FL/Cubase workflow. I use FL as a sort of sketchpad cos it's quick. But before long, I run into limitations. When I need to edit, record, and mix, Cubase is KING. Nothing in FL beats the audio and midi editing capabilities of Cubase. And the customisation is unparalleled. I still want to create my own macros. It's also great that you keep learning new things abt it even years after using it. There's a reason why Cubase is still around. It's still the best all-rounder DAW compared to all the others.
I like to play around with other DAWs as they can make me think of ideas I wouldn't otherwise, but Cubase is my home. IMO, it is the best and most complete DAW, but because of that, it comes with a learning curve that is veeeery steep for most new comers.
This was the correct way of presenting something. Liked your style, it was easy and enjoyable to follow. I might get Cubase some sunny day. Can´t justify it now, because already had several Daws.
Used Cubase now for over 30 years, starting with a dodgy copy on an Atari ST back in the 90s. Ran a professional studio for 20 years all based on Cubase, tracking tons of projects with full live multitrack usage. Done everything from writing full orchestral stuff to hip hop to synthwave, to sync to picture. It’s given me the tools for it all.
Much better than Pro Tools for me, which I have used quite a lot. I think Logic is now great for the money but still prefer Cubase. Use across platforms all the time with no issues. My list of if I could change anything: 1. Some simpler dedicated one job VST Instruments for say Pianos, Rhodes, Hammond, Bass, Orchestral etc. I know it’s kind of covered in Halion Sonic, but dedicated VSTs would be better. The multichannel thing in Halion Sonic doesn’t make a huge amount of sense these days. 2. Clearly labelled classic drum machine kits for Groove Agent like 808, 909, Linn etc. 3. Varispeed ( no DAWs have this) although there’s way of recreating, it’s not a built in feature. 4. Still don’t find Midi Controller and Midi Mapping/ Quick Controls reliable or easy. 5. Better options for live use. VST Live is terrible, and most VST instruments still don’t allow Midi Programs change info to change patches on the fly. 6. Better amp sims. I actually think the built in ones aren’t too bad sounding but could be really updated and improved. Although the clean interface is excellent. 7. A simple Filter plugin that just models various filters/ filter types and has resonance and cutoff… 8. VST Connect SE/ PRO what happened to that, it got so confusing, but is a great idea. I actually paid money for it too 😂
@@drinkinslim hi Just press the I button on keyboard and you will see a red marker , just adjust it to where you want to start record, then Just place the header to where you want to start hearing and press play or space bar. it will play and will start recording from the red marker that you placed, no need to press record or anything. and if for some reason you don't see red marker after pressing I, then you need to unable it by clicking on lock button alongside markers in your transport bar below and if you press O, you can decide till when you want to record, Basically I for In and O for out
Respect your channel. Great topics, well presented. I tried Cubase 10 for 3 months exclusively I nearly lost my mind. Not my workflow. Studio One Pro v6.x is my DNA
Due to comments like yours, I tried studio one for six months. Compared to Cubase it was awful. So many things missing (control room for example) midi editors not even close, stock plugins not a scratch on the Steinberg ones, even the terminology is bad (groups, buss, link) plug in manger awful in Studio one. I own a residential studio and I can't even imagine being able to use studio one in a professional environment.
I e just recently returned to Cubase after a long time away from it. Best decision I ever made! Got Absolute 6 to go with Pro 13 too and picked up a UR44C interface in the new Fire Red colour. Very happy indeed. I too - like I’ve seen other people say - started out with Cubase on the Atari ST back in 1990 and it’s good to be back with it on the Mac.
We should push more the idea of ".DAWproject" to the developpers! So one day, DAWs are only a skin and everybody can collaborate on a common file format. One file format to rule them all! For those who ask, the goal of this project is not take encompass ALL workflow/functions from all DAWs to another, it's just a better version of AAF/OMF with more compatibility for feature that get standerdized over time. E.G. Clip View from Live is more and more common (Aka Logic has a version of it now).
i dont think this will ever happen, only because companies want people to use THERE product, and having a common file type would mean people might move to deferent software.
@@itszacharytime it does exist between BitWig and Studio One though -- a "daw project exchange" format
9 месяцев назад
@@itszacharytime Nope. It def could happen. It wouldnt prevent people from using a certain DAW. It would only increase the competition between DAWS which would be better for all consumers.
nope. don´t think so, this doesn´t work. Why should I transfer my songs to another daw? Why should I exchange my songs with other people? Are people so insecure or so uncreative that they can't get anything done with one DAW? It won't work anyway because plugins are not same on every computer. This affects the onboard plugins anyway. This is impossible. Where´s the problem to bounce tracks as wav files. so you can open songs in every daw! on every OS! Even after decades you can open tracks/songs.
I have no complaints with cubase 13, its perfect for what i do. Hasn't been a time where i sit there contemplating about what they can do better to it, evey upgrade is just a treat. Been at it since sx2. And yes, I've tried other DAWs for comparison and out of curiosity, but none have been my cup of tea. Studio one is the only other DAW I can rely on for different option since they are similar in many ways, but would never replace cubase with it.
To me Cubase is the one Daw that I believe will serve as a perfect composing software for a future smooth jazz album I've been brainstorming since 2000.
I'm on Logic Pro and it's been quite good for me. I watch a lot of Guy Michelmore's videos, though, and he really works well in Cubase. I was unaware there was a 60-day trial. That's pretty compelling.
I've been a Pro Tools guy for some time by necessity, but I've always created in Logic until a year or two ago when I started branching out. Tried Ableton for a while. Then absolutely fell in love with Bitwig. But Bitwig, sadly, just isn't quite a complete product yet. I tried to demo Cubase last year, but I kept having stabliilty issues with it, even on my Macbook with an M1 Max. In frustration, I moved on, letting my 60 day trial time out. But I keep having people who know me well say that I'd love Cubase. So I reached out to Steinberg and they happily let me have another 60 days. I'm re-installing it literally as I type this. This video has me excited to dive in and start evaluating it!
That's me I switch from fl to cubase and I only use fl as a plugin for drum programming or using flex other than that cubase is perfect also check out beat designer plugin in cubase is hide in the midi insert it work like fl channel rack drum programming in cubase
I love 13. I find it snappier and more stable than 12. I'd like it if they added the Nuendo extras in Cubase rather than have them as separate programs.
I like Cubase for its midi editing functionality. For audio recording/editing, I prefer Studio One above everything else. DAWs are mainly tailored to a specific production purpose, so one size will probably never fit all.
Can you make a video covering melodyne? Like sampling with melodyne, manual vocal tunning, harmony creation? I havent seen anyone touch this thing on youtube while i have seen so many pro producers using melodyne to manipulate their samples and recordings
@@Doty6StringMusicians that play instruments use racks of gear though. Pedals, loopers, outboard effects, stereo setups, dual amp splitters, with customisable controllers to easily drive complex routing setups and so on. Ableton and FL already have good equivalent solutions and Cubase is lagging behind here.
@@Doty6String Unsure if you want examples of classic hardware racks (like 80s/90s/00s effects racks) or in the DAWs. For hardware racks, look at the live rigs of any major touring guitarist of those decades. In the DAWs, Ableton has a device called Racks and FL Studio has a device called Patcher. Both of these allow you to make racks of plugins and create your own macro controls to "play" the rack like you would with a hardware rack + controller. You can create parallel chains and control them with a single macro (mapped to say a foot controller), switch between several complex chains instantly when playing live and loads more cool stuff.
@ippo yea I have ableton, most players these days do use modelers, and synths, some pre's for live instruments, and A LOT of midi. cubase is centered around a musical approach to creating audio and music, where ableton strikes me as a modular synth approach but in a daw, and geared for sample manipulation. I own cubase, ableton, and pro tools. for recording a band and editing audio its PT all the way. for musician creative stuff cubase for sure.
Mannnn I started on cubase and switched to protools 5 years ago. And midi editing / programming and vocal tuning is so much better than protools. Didn’t realize there was a browse sample and preview section too. Dang it haha
Did you know, that when you open a vst from the right hand side that doesn't have a preview graphic, when you open it and click the little camera icon in the top right hand corner of the vst window, it will add that as its preview graphic in the selector from then on. So you don't have them ugly blank spaces with just a description underneath.
Been using Pro Tools for 15 years, moved over to Logic and then Ableton. I liked both Logic and Ableton for producing but was missing a lot when mixing and routing audio so I gave Cubase a shot. Since 2 years back thats the DAW I'm sticking with. For me I want a DAW that can handle all the steps from writing to mastering and Cubase does that. Instead of using two I only need Cubase. Do I like Cubase? Yess and No... I think it´s very slow for most things (basically the same feeling as Pro Tools) and has a steep learning curve. It feels very "windows" (with that I mean a lot of information everywhere which clutter up your mind) and needs a lot of customization to work nicely. Cubase has features you showed us that is above most DAWs and the way it handles both midi and audio with precision (especially when editing) is what makes it for me. I think it´s sad that DAWs more and more start trusting people to make customizations to their program instead of just fixing a lot of them from start. Some of the most basic things is often not even having shortcuts. We are often lazy and many end up with DAWs that feel clumpsy just because they didn't assigned a macro or some midi editor voodoo.

Its nearly 2024 & Cubendo still only has 8 sends max per track.
hi, great instructional video, thank you so much for doing this. I wanted to ask you if absolute 6 worth it? in your opinion, Since its on deep discount right now. I am a Musician at a budget and can't afford multiple libraries. do you think I will be sorted if I just get the absolute 6 bundle ? or I should save more and go for native instrument komplete?
You should consider how great is the ARA integration in Cubase/Nuendo. I mean you can open in it Spectralayers and now also Wavelab (yes a short version but still…). I don’t care that much about melodyne since you have Vari Audio which is very good and easy to use. I’m waiting for a streamlined Dorico version to be opened via ARA: this would have the potential to change the film scoring industry.
I am a Cubase user for dacades now. 13 also is really great, but i hate this blurry faders to death! Makes me feel i am drunk when ever i open Cubase 🤣. Beside this, i am still in love.
Maybe Cubase was the right DAW for me. If I go back in time I would probably save time and money just buying Cubase. I have FL Studio and Mixcraft. They are both great in their own way but if there is a DAW I ask myself "what if" is Cubase. I've been using the chord pad in Cubasis for few days and that sold me. One thing that bothers me is why my product doesnt show in my account. When I bought FLM it showed in my account. What's up with that? I registered my product. What else I need to do?
Agree people did not use it because they assume is old lost in the past like pro tools and only taste a pirate copy of cubase 5 because is the only one easy the pirate that have made cubase so underrated. Especially producers always forgot to mention cubase is sad because I have you almost every daw in the market and cubase still the best in my opinion not just for recording and mixing but also for producing better than, logic or Ableton in my opinion, and way more features than studio one
Move to studio one long-time ago (2.5) when restart audio, now studio one or cubase both are close (even in interface) and do great job. but miss the autoalign of cubase, use melodyne it take time. I don't produce but have fun with maschine, it's simple and effective NI stuff are good for no sound designer like me, and import in presonus for mix....
Hello! I have a question, I have a Mac mini M2 and I'm using Cubase 13 pro, and I want to use an apollo twin X sound card for recording input and an RME ADI 2 Dac FS for output to use the best converter. on Logic pro it became very easy but on Cubase I can't handle it. Thank you so much
Cubase Pro 13 is "RENT-TO-OWN $16.99/mo. for 34 months" on Splice website. That's $578 compared to $840 on Steinberg's official site for Cubase Pro 13. (I'm not affiliated with Splice or Steinberg, but know that's a good deal if one can afford the monthly payments.)
I use Logic Pro but cubase feels familiar to me because of it's interface is similar to logic, but logic x gives me best possible performance for my Mac so I use logic.
You mean to make a song in 432hz or something? For that just set the master tuning of each plugin. Or just put a shifter in your master out at -32cents
@MakePopMusic easier said than done man when you have a 5950x processor maxed out with over 100 channels and like 30 - 40 instruments. Any pitch shifter heavily distorts the music and trying to keep track of every track is super time consuming.
There's no workspace like this anywhere:))))) I have a question. Why does everyone who works on Cubase have a mouse wheel spinning for 5-10 seconds when loading plug-ins? I can even understand why a lot of people go back to their weird DAWs. The thing is that they transfer their habits/workflow to other DAWs. And in other DAWs, there are other, simpler tools for working with MIDI/Audio and so on, but people still continue to do the same as in their previous DAWs. Bitwig - To the Artists! Have a good time, everyone.
I’m guessing out of the box: you can’t. You would need a third party utility like Better Touch Tool to assign the zoom in/zoom out key commands to Pinch In/Pinch Out.
Logic, Ableton, Fl Studio and Studio One all handle drum programming/sequencing better than Cubase. Groove Agent is clunky and overly confusing, and programming drums with diamonds just isn't for me. Other than that, I like it the best.
I love Ableton as its workflow works the best for my personal style. I think if I had a Apple Laptop I would use Logic Pro more. But I already bought Ableton and am familiar with it.
One thing I hate about Cubase is that i can't even move or duplicate my arrangement when i froze one of my heaviest sections in it because it automatically locked and can't be unlocked. In order to save some CPU usage, i usually do this because my pc couldn't handle it perfectly. And the most pain in the ass thing about frozen the entire section, is that you must do it all individually for each sections and unfreeze it again when you want to edit it. What the fuckkk??? And because of this goddamn minor yet powerful workflow features doesn't work for me in Cubase, i must say i have no freedom for my creativity at all! If only Steinberg hear my screaming heart and brain about this and change it in the next update so i can easily re-arrange and have my creativity back, i would totally be one of Steinberg's loyal customers until the end of the day.
Are there any other users here who are suffering from the software's ability to Work with Plugins that consume more processing power and that way it Reaches overload very quickly.? Does anyone know if this is because the base of the software has not been Upgraded and only additions and upgrades are added to an old " engine " For example, the amount of sends per channel is not increased, If the Software was upgraded from the base it would have already been Increased.........?
2:26 that function was always there in logic pro along with the bus routing featue now they trying to copy stuff lol .Shifted from cubase to logic pro 3 years back, tbh i dont really miss anything about cubase except the studio control and live cueing option which is missing. Other than that i find logic easy to use and has a really small learning curve
As far as features go Cubase it seems almost endless, judging from your overview. Honestly, quite impressive. On the other hand, personally, I find the UI has way too much going on. All those menubars, tabs, sub windows, buttons, text all over the place,.... it almost makes me dizzy, lol. I prefer the more uniform minimalistic layout from Ableton.
It's sad that Pro Studio is considered the only game in town. I use Reaper and stand by it. But I used Cubase for a long time before and beside Reaper. And I think people use Pro studio because thy think it's forced.
As a Cubase user they need to fix some stuff. Mainly the timeline is a joke. Pro tools and ableton for example have flawless timelines. You can click in the timeline anywhere and it locks to the grid. Fades in pro tools are flawless. The pinch to zoom in ableton works. It doesn’t in Cubase. The clip manipulation in Cubase sucks visually and making fades is so clunky. I also hate that Cubase half baked features and then releases them letting us deal with it. That said I do think Cubase is the best DAW for crafting music. And for sure the best for composing to picture
@@MakePopMusic i must be unlucky. 2 PC’s and a MBP and all have had issues. I guess if programs were bug free we wouldn’t get all those bug fix updates 🤔 My comment about 5mins is real, new project, just setting it up and less than 5 mins CB is gone.
@@davebassP5 I've been using Cubase since version 8. I had really big problems with C10 to the point I started looking at Reaper to switch maybe. C11 was a step up but still not really stable. Since C12 came out I had no problems whatsoever. I have severely upgraded my PC though in between C11 and C12, so....
@@RudalPL i can easily make CB quit 100% of the time. Just by loading track presets and then clicking someone else on the screen. This only happens if i use the drop down load/save method and not clicking on the name. To me that’s a bug and i appreciate not everyone will have it.
probably there will be someone using ableton or fl that disagrees. the best daw is the daw you know best. end of discussion, its not about the ride, its the rider
yeah ableton has some wild sound design stuff! Cubase is getting there with their Sampler and warp modes but Ableton just has so much weirddd shit you can do@@lX-NDR
@@MakePopMusic yeah i know. but im also still a diehard cubase user. it has great stuff only cubase can do in my opinion. your music is also a representation of howmuch you can achive with cubase! i love both for their own things. i love cubase sampler! easy and quick for great ideas.
Anyone stating Cubase is the best is a person who likely hasn't used Studio One. It shares a large amount of the same features but with a more sensible interface and user experience. It's big upgrade.
Ehmmmm... Ever heard of REAPER?😂 I'm joking ofc, nowdays there's no such thing as "best DAW"... The best DAW is whatever works best for you, unfortunately a lot of people don't understand it. (I really hate DAW wars)
Well , studio one is called the future standard, I think that should mean something, and the way presonus included the dolby atmos suite it's just killing all the daw, drag and drop functions, mixing workflow, mastering suite, easy setup for instruments, audio editing its just gettin better and better, I don't think cubase has nothing to do against studio one.
@@jovonnepa Yeah, I mean, cubase is good, I love the interface, actually S1 is pretty ugly haha not very inspiring to the eyes as cubase, but besides that, I think we can stay confident in saying that S1 is bringing different things than any other DAW could offer
The difference between the two is: THE final result on every project. A project made in cubase is more clean when you export it. On the other hand. The same project exported in s1 is ok but it sounds a little bit dirty. I proved it with processing a project with the same plugins on both. I guess the engineering and architecture of Cubase's engine in more deep on its construction than s1.
erm... There are so few people using Dolby Atmos. ^^This is not a figurehead. And no one needs a master suite page in these times. Nowadays mastering is done in big arrange window - streaming today. Master suite is useful for CD. But Wavelab is much better. Studio One is not good in case of it´s stock plugins and sample content. Cubase is way better. I prefer Cubase render options and multiple cycle marker. Cant´live without SamplerTrack for sounddesign. Cubase´s mix console ist the best on the market. former S1 hardcore user here. Drag and drop in all directions are not the best workflow.
@@ronmaster5220 a DAW doesn't have a sound, you can make a null test and the sound will be cancelled 100% , digital audio is 1 and 0, this is a topic very discussed but you can make a test between both DAW or any DAW and the sound is the same.
