CyHi The Prynce dropped by Sway in the Morning today to promote his new mixtape, The Black Hystori Project. The rapper discussed working with Kanye West, making different rap music, and how Beyonce and Jay Z are responsible for his relationship with Yeezy. Additionally, he spoke about how Black History Month influenced his new mixtape and having family connections with Dr. Martin Luther King. 7 years later and I keep coming back to this.. the purest moment for me is around 25:27 right after Rev Run and his wife Justine enter the room.. she is a little shy and clearly somewhat unfamiliar with Cyhi but then he drops a line about his mom having a miscarriage just like Justine herself a couple years prior.. from that moment on you can tell she really starts listening and appreciating Cyhi's lyrics and almost seems proud of him at the end.

Marc Regal that’s why he put it in quotation marks. Technically freestyling refers to having prewritten bars that can be rapped to on any beat, hence “free of style.” It can also refer to being off the dome, but whenever some goes off the dome it’s very obvious and they almost always will say it too, either as a disclaimer or a boast

Same bro. I was a kid in the 80's. First started listening to Sir Mix-a-Lot Swass, Too Short, 2 Live Crew, Rappin Duke, Beastie Boys, LL, Erik B, Rahkim, etc. Shit only got better and better up into the early 2000's and then its like the shit fell off. But not really.. Just went underground. The fire shit is still there. Thankfully we have the means to find it fairly easy now days though.

The rewind factor would pop a many of tapes!!! the metaphors and lyrical content is super compressed that he gives you a ton of information that it is almost impossible to catch it all from the mere response it gets or gets out of you so while you are going got damn you done already missed shit. Great excersise and food for the ears. Let's not say he could rap circles around Kendrick EASILY (although everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, lol). IMO, Kendrick has gained so much popularity that people overlook how fucking fantastic he is... with respects to meaning, flow, punchlines, subtlety, everything. Of course, that's just my opinion. I love Cyhi as well! But Kendrick goes so hard, too. It's a bit difficult to rank greatness.

You can see the dedication and energy you get from this man. Rev Run closed his eyes so could vividly imagine the story Cyhi was telling. Cyhi is the best lyrically in Good Music and the only reason why Cyhi didn't blow because he didn't support the wave Kanye was moving to and the way he's so honesty to the story and lesson he's trying to relay it didn't match with Kanye's ideas. Cyhi is dope and better than most y'all top ten in the game right now

He actually tried....I had cyhi royal flush album and it was tight, but its really that he doesn't want his music to be mainstream. That's why he writes for others and puts out mixtapes. He tried the album and it was pushed as much as it could be without a "radio song" or a "club song" that's what will get people radio play so if you just wanna focus on the lyrics it wont get you anywhere....I mean look at Cassidy. He had to put out those radio songs to get airplay but his best shit was buried in the LP's for real niggas to rock to. That's the problem with rap (not hip hop). The lyrical penmenship is not elevated to where it should be. Another prime example was Nas and Ochie Wally dude was outta his element to get airplay. That's what folks gotta do unless you a Jay-Z but even he had to do it with that hype williams video for sunshine off his second lp...out his element lol but the album was lit af!!! So don't blame Kanye it's really not his fault...

I'm talking about how he was pushed to make a "club record" where that isn't his style. That's where Ochie Wally came from. The shift from hip hop to rap as we know it now kicked up around then. The lyrics became less of a focus and the beat and hook was prioritized. You know that "catchy hook" but no one really talking about nothing. It wasn't a knock against Nas at all....more of a knock against the label. That's why I said he was out his element.
