Totally agree with your assessment of Happ, and the likelihood that one way or the other we should enjoy seeing him in Cubby blue while we can. I expect he’s in NY next season, if not also later this year, with his buddy Riz. And I wish him well and thank him for his service. With PCA, Davis, and Alcantra coming, among other high end outfield prospects, there’s no reason to overpay on Happ. Thanks for the update on another solid prospect to fill that role, Canario. Can’t have too many good players on the rise. Hope he fully recovers to continue his climb to the bigs.

Good points on Swanson, it will be hard to not hold him to that high bar since he's so likeable.

@@mcozzi yeah he's not the face of the franchise yet but I see him really becoming a fan favorite this year, especially paired with Nico. The Swanson signing was the true signal that the Cubs are trying to climb out of this rebuild by addressing the major league roster in addition to continuing prospect development and that overall direction is very exciting.

Nevermind PTSD with Hayward being a bad signing of a former Braves player, I still have PTSD from Jeff Blauser in the 90's. Killed the Cubs with the Braves, we sign him and he can barely hit his weight.

Swanson chose the cubs bc they overpaid like double for him. Oh, and welcome to the real dansby. How he's hitting now, that's how he's been a lot of his career.

The concern I have with Dansby is that he put up good numbers the last 2 years on a really good Braves team in which opponents HAD to pitch to him. The current Cubs team doesn’t have the same talent to protect Dansby. If anything I expect a drop in offensive production this year due to lack of talent around him and Chicago spring weather.

No comparison between Russell and Swanson. Swanson is a class individual and player. A team leader that everyone will look up to!

@@berniemarkley If he's not hitting. He's not in the line up. Cant be a leader on the bench.

@Matt Cozzi Cubs got him for his defense ,and if,if he can at least hit 270. would be a home run for the cubs.

If Swanson pulls a Heyward , the Cubs will never sign another FA again !!!! Let alone resign their own guys. I hope that doesn't happen

Or at least not another FA from Atlanta. 😊

Matt Cozi, I have been making somewhat of the same claim for the last month or so when the idea of extension talks have been brought up. I know it wouldnt be great overall for our Club IFF we are a couple games our of 1st in the division by trade deadline....but my theory only works with some hypotheticals: 1) PCA, Brennan Davis, Mervis, and/or Wesneski (barring he isnt already on Cubs opening day) are all doing what they did last year and are eating up AAA pitching and the only thing holding them down is "our currently assembled club" 2) Bellinger, Happ, Mancini/Hosmer, boxberger, fulmer, and other 1 year guys are doing well enough to be trade fodder for other clubs looking to shore up their playoff aspirations. If both hypotheticals are happening, I believe the best move is to move the 1 to 2 year vets at the deadline for more depth/pitching and truly create a Long-term Window for Cubs. I want the Cubs to win and I hope they are competitive this season, but long term results/winning may out weigh a "playoff appearance" for me. Especially if half of this team that ends up winning isnt on the club next year and then we gotta wait for the new guys to get adjusted for another season to MLB pitching and prolong the process. Love you guys show and i know this take isnt exactly the most appealing and OBVIOUSLY the hypotheticals have to play for it to really make sense. appreciate what you guys bring to the table every day

Where has Nelson Velazquez gone? Have the Cubs given up on him? I would think that he’d be getting a decent amount of playing time since Suzuki is out. Nothing against Tauchman but just curious what your thoughts are on NV?

I love that certain Braves fans are giving Dansby the Willson treatment. Will be fun watching them win 100 only to drop out in the first round again.
