I know most people don't think of Dark Souls as therapeutic, but I really think it is in the same way that, say, working out can be therapeutic for someone that is feeling inadequate. At first, it seems impossible. You fail over and over and over. But eventually, you succeed and it feels amazing! Or you get back to an area that gave you a lot of trouble and breeze through it on NG+. Personally, I had been stuck in a rut of depression, feeling like I couldn't do anything right. Dark Souls really helped prove that thought wrong. It's actually useful to be like remember that _I don't actually know what I can and cannot do unless I try!_ I said "I can't do this" about Blighttown, and organic chemistry, and a bunch of other stuff.. and I was wrong every damn time. So who knows :)

This was a great listen, i was in a very similar boat when i first played. So glad you got into it it, the whoel series is fantastic

Dark souls is hard if you play without looking at videos for help but its very easy if you follow a guild and look up boss cheese videos. Its an incredible game even today Still my favourite.

Just started my first run of this game yesterday. Got past Taurus Demon and was getting frustrated trying to get farther, then realized I had missed a ladder back to a bonfire that cut out a 5 minute runback. Great game so far!

DS1 is a masterpiece and will always be worth playing. Also, there is an immense amount of content in the terms of "story" and worldbuilding (mostly in dialogue, item descriptions, and awareness of the surroundings in general).

I started the franchise with dark souls 3 and honestly I think it's way easier to get into, if I started with dark souls 1 I'm pretty sure i would've also hit a wall in the first location, I think dark souls 3 just has a better difficulty curve, tho I would say the first boss of ds1 is nothing compared to the first boss in ds3

If you played the game before, the Ascension Mod is a fantastic overhaul . If you haven't played it, I'll assume you jumped on the bandwagon with Elden and probably aren't ready for a game without a dedicated jump button .

I played Dark Souls (I'm on the third now) last year and I've loved [almost] every second of it. To be real, the only bad part is the community, and even they've mellowed with time! But still, that "git gud" mentality is the worst. Like yeah bro, I'm trying to git gud... I'm asking your advice on how to best do that ya don't have to attack me for it 😂

DS1 is not that hard if you are patient.

I find the one thing which separates souls games from any other is consequences. In other games you can save and reload, if you die you don’t really lose anything. Losing your souls and consumables if you die and not being able to save or pause when you have a lot to lose adds consequences to death that other games don’t have.

Just wait till you get to Dark Souls 3 :)

Dark souls 2 fucking sucks but stick it through it has some okay moments and ds3 is amazing
