Great explanation of a very complex topic. We went to Disney for 20 years before we bought into DVC, so wish we would have done it sooner. Like you we bought at Saratoga Springs. I know it gets a bad rap, but for us it is just so relaxing. Subscribing for information on taking a baby to Disney with the new Grandbaby on the way. So excited to introduce a new generation to Disney.

Great video! I can’t believe how complicated it is 😆🤦🏻‍♀️ I was super lucky to marry into a family who had already bought into DVC back when it was brand new ($27/point!!!) so I just wrote into our wedding vows “must allow me to travel to Disney whenever with points” (jk) 🤣

It matters on what your home resort is on how much your yearly maintenance fee is also. The cheapest option vero resort has the highest maintenance fees attached to it, so isn't really cost effective.

IMO it's not worth it. we almost bought DVC. We stayed at a couple VRBOs off property and that seems to me to be the best value. We spend most of our time in the parks so staying at a deluxe resort isn't a great priority for us.

Don't forget the value of money. I mean that if you invest the $32,000 at 7% interest you can take out $2000 per year and still have over $100,000 in 50 years. I think if you're happy to stay at moderate and below you save a lot of money not buying DVC. If you need the deluxe amenities then probably you save some. We stayed at all three levels. Grand floridian and Contemporary for the deluxe and the park access for MK is a major benefit (it's the hardest one to drive too just because of the ferry). We drive to them all so the other parks are really easy, I wouldn't consider park proximity a benefit for the other areas. I also like having a balcony but that's just me. I've been tempted to buy now but will probably hold off due to prices. We'll probably stay at Port Orleans next time. Seems very nice.

Yes you can invest every dime you make but it’s not guarantied to appreciate 7% every year. Plus right now that isn’t even keeping up with inflation. So the value is the same. I am not saying DVC is for everyone it’s not it should only be for Disney enthusiasts and people who plan to go regardless of where they stay. But DVC has been shown to keep up with inflation and actually out pace it. Like she said in the video some people bought there contract in the very beginning at 51 a point in 1991. That’s equivalent to 111 dollars today and those same contracts are selling for 104 a point right now. So they are essentially selling for what they paid for and they got to spend the last 30 years taking vacations only for the cost of dues which is what you would have paid to stay in a value resort anyways. Not saying that will be the case in the next 30 years but I think that is a great return if you planned to go anyways.

Girl you have me fully messed up in the best way 😂😄 We are a Cali based family so Disneyland is our easy access Disney go-to but as our kids get older we will start going to WDW and now I'm thinking hmmm do we need DVC!? 🤣 My poor husband

You can buy DVC for the Grand Californian & Disneyland Tower is going to be built in the next few years so there are West Coast options too. 😅 My apologies to your hubby lol.

Can you explain the difference in renting the points vs buying DVC? We just stayed at the Grand Floridian using rented DVC points, but now we aren’t sure if we should buy into DVC or just keep renting points year to year?

Yeah this definitely seems worth it if you go to disney every year and stay on property, especially if you buy resale.

We’re heavily looking into buying DVC and also found out that if you purchase resale, you’re not allowed to use those points on the new resorts like Riviera or Aulani, which is really a bummer. Is the 86 points you quoted at SSR for a studio or one bedroom?

That was definitely a disappointment. That's odd. Our resale contract gives us the option to book Aulani just not Riviera. That is for a studio! My apologies should have clarified that one.

Right now Riviera is the only resort that you cant stay in with resale points, and then any future resorts that may come.

We bought into DVC in 2020 and are looking to buy an add on contract! We love DVC so much! We were able to purchase it outright which was great! It feels like our hotel stays are free (even though obviously that isn’t true).

Question I know you’re at Disney right now and hope you see this once you’re settle back home but .. so if you buy DVC does that mean you’re no longer have to pay for hotel??

In a way, yes. Depending on where you stay and how many points you have. The more park accessible DVC resorts run more points per night. You still have monthly dues every year. For our Saratogo Springs 150 point contract, we pay $89 a month.

They only have DVC rooms at The Grand Californian currently but will be adding DVC to the Disneyland Hotel in the next couple of years.
