"I want a DOG, not a robot, or a soldier!". More and more owners respond with such words to the abundance of obedience training content on social media. Not every owner needs or wants a dog whose nose is glued to their pocket during casual walks, maintaining a competition-style heel position. And most owners don't need their dog to hold a long-distance down-stay off-leash in Lowes while others walk past them.
How about we "let dogs be dogs" and focus on a trusting relationship and effective communication instead of militant obedience training? How about we focus on fulfilling their needs first?
In this video, I share my thoughts and experiences on the question: Is Dog Training Overrated?
